Are we obsessed with Sachin's Record........
by ashok mani on Feb 28, 2011 08:08 AM  | Hide replies

One cannot explain the 'slow' run rate in the first 25 overs from established players who have been playing so much cricket.

Established players like Shewag, Gautam and Sachin need to step up the scoring rate.........

Their approach seems to be like 'can i get one more hundred to improve my statistics'

Will our obsession to see 'the little master' score well cease and see the game in a bigger perspective.......

Don't talk nonsense. It is our bowling which is weak and not batting. If we cannot defend 338 then we are not fit to win WC.

ashok you are absolutely right! yes our player just interested in getting 100's and 50's. They are not interested in scoring, Yes i agree that yesterday they score 338 on board, but it was 350 plus wicket, it was a batting pitch and at the mid over, the score rate was very bad.Yuvraj only plays against england, that is fact, why was kohli who is currently ranking 2nd not been given batting?

Ashok Mani:

Yeah... 338 was peanuts... We should have scored 747 runs to give a hope to our "fantastic" bowlers... ;-)

Ashok, 120 runs in 115 balls! Do you have any sense? You want Sachin also to bowl & take 10 wickets? Don't chase Sachin barking..

Yuvraj 'waste' singh
by Ajith Pillai on Feb 28, 2011 08:08 AM  | Hide replies

This match has not been won by India primarily due to the selfish batting of yuvraj singh who was clearly playing for his 50 and not for the team so that he could cement his place. He did not even attempt the big shots.

match was tie because of ill bowling by Indian Bowlers , if Bowlers are not able to defend 300 score then nothing can make this team to win world cup , Batsman have played there part well , even with Bangladesh we have strugled on Bowling department .

Dhoni was very ordinary captain yeterday
by Ian Chappell on Feb 28, 2011 08:05 AM  | Hide replies

Mates yesterdays Dhoni's captaincy was very ordinary. The pitch was easy and he should have concentrated on stopping 2's and 1's rather then 4's and 6's. If he tighten up the noose even after 15 overs and didn't allow easy singles and twos then the game would have been in India's favor before 35 overs because by then England would have lost most of their batters !
They tie the match just because of stupidity of English Batsman !

Mr. Chappell, I totally agreed with your points. Moreover, it was a big himalayan blunder on Dhoni's part that he totally mis-managed bowlers during last ten overs. He should have let medium pacers to bowl during last five overs to avoid tie.

Mr. Ravi I think he did't have any medium pacer left for last 5 overs. He finished Zaheer's overs before 40 overs to stop England and left with Munaf Patel only.
I think he now don't have any options left then to go with 5 specialist bowlers (2 spinners and 3 medium pacers)...otherwise the bowlers are not good enough to defend even 340, you can think about India's chances against much stronger teams like SA, AUstralia and Srilanka !

my dear every thing was pre planed , this was group match and is obvious the 4 big team will make into Quater so it is good time for satta market to earn money , yesterday match do not seems cricket but a drama which started on 3rd power play , no one win means all bet over England and India went with satta market .

UDRS is like EVMs
by E darwin on Feb 28, 2011 08:02 AM  | Hide replies

UDRS is like EVM, all can be tempered with selectively when needed, it is like internet spying because even the anti-virus and encryption has spyware in them and so does the data packet going down the wire or air suspect to be picked. welcome to the devil's network where person from every faith prays to be part of devil's network.

By tempering, i meant tempered with selectively, the calibration/etc changed and anything to fix that calibration can also be tempered with.

INDIA'S Captaincy woes
by madras anantharaman on Feb 28, 2011 07:41 AM  | Hide replies

Doni seems to have lost interest in captaincy, except for the financial benefits it gives him in his Ads career. He has faultered so much as to lose the opportunity of winning this match against England. Knowing the depth in batting that this English side has, Doni should have planned the strategy better. First of all, change in Indian batting order to demote Kholi was not in the interest of the team. Then the other mistake was ignoring Ashwin and including Piyush Chawla. During most part of the second innings one got an impression that Dhoni was heavily banking on his 'luck' rather than on actual play. On top of it all, the failure of UDRS in giving Ian Bell 'out' LBW, despite the whole world seeing it on screen to be 'out'. All these compounded and brought the resultant 'tie'. Munaf Patel did not bowl his last over with any restrictive approach and conceded the vital runs to England. Overall, it was a match that could have been won by India.

Anantharaman, Mumbai

Dhoni jealous of Virat Rise
by piyush sahay on Feb 28, 2011 07:27 AM  | Hide replies

BCCI and Dhoni both are reaping what they sowed. India was the only country denied use of UDRS in all the games they played in last 2 years. This took the sheen off UDRS, i know technology would have its own limitations but had BCCI agreed of its use long back, going by such examples there definitely would have been more innovations on the use of UDRS system.
1.Coming to the match, its ridiculous to say had we got Bell then we would have won, may be Colly would have played better knock.
2. Dhoni field placements and captaincy worst of all the time, luckily we did not lost the game
3. India could have easily scored another 20 runs more, last 3overs of batting was wasted. Virat Kohli pushed down was a waste of a batsman. Virat in all probablility plays with a strike rate of 100% almost. Dhoni promoting himself for 35 ball 31, denied India of a batsman.
4. Seems Dhoni is not happy with quick rise of Virat who is ODI no. 2 and he is taking away chances from him now on to keep him out of playing 11. He will get Raina in and so will put cloud over Virat performances.

1) have u watched the match. it was 25 ball 31 runs of dhoni not 35 ball.
2) second thing it is also very important to rotate your batsman also. yuvraj was not in good form.Indian were well placed when tendulkar got out & so he sent yuvraj up in batting order to play & gain some confidence.

by satish on Feb 28, 2011 07:21 AM

In IPL itself piyush hammered by all batsmen.
Ashwin is right choice for yeterday game moreover pitch is done by ICC and UDRS is controlled by Aussie.

Rediff is not getting space for important news
by Ramesh on Feb 28, 2011 07:16 AM

Rediff is trying to divert public attention from corruption, scams, price rise and other important issues with only cricket news. They can write one story about the match and allocate rest of the space for important issues that are bothering billion people. Rediff, pls highlight people issues also instead of just concentrating on Cricket.
