Re: Need qualifying rounds

In football, there are further qualifying rounds to reach qualifying round. For the matter of fact, India did not qualify for the qualifying round.
We are tho only team palying cricket and ONLY cricket for 25 years straight so the cup is ours this time.........and this is the world cup with only 4 sides capable of playing decent, not even quality cricket.
Its a shame on ICC for not having given its associate members the test status. If, All members are equal before ICC, then let ICC consider the idea of giving test status for all members including associate members and popularise the sport in a right way.
Teams like Ireland Kenya Netherlands Canada who have qualified for world cup in 2009 should have regularly played ODIS' with bottom 4 teams which has not happened .Expect for Ireland which hosted Bangladesh 2Odi's Australia 1Odi and Zimbabwe 3Odi's that is not acceptable..they should have atleast played 15-20Odis with countries like Bangladesh,Zimbabwe,West Indies,Pakistan/New Zealand before playing directly in world cup. This should have been done by ICC. Rather than reducing world cup make it more competitive by including more team with more practice for them after qualification. In INDIA people love to watch matches involving INDIA only .Thats why world cup should be in ENGLAND where there are people from all around the world

lol Kenya were all out in just 23.5 overs and New Zeland chased down the target in some 8 overs. So all in all, New Zelands needed just 31.5 total match overs to beat Kenya!
In the light of today's match and practice matches before tournament, ICC has to seriously think on teams to be involved in WC.. With this kind of matches (NZ vs Kenya), nobody would be interested in watching cricket. Believe the tournament would have been very interesting even with 10 teams.. with appropriate pattern. There will be atleast 20 matches, which will not be worth seeing, and its foolish to follow all those matches expecting one odd upset.

cricket is played seriously in very few countries thats why including minnows is must. irony is inspite of lack of competition in international cricket, still india fails to bring world cup after wasting so much money and man-power in cricket.

Yaar, the game has started to spread its wings now. USA, China has started playing cricket. In next 10 years, there will be more cricket playing nations. And the talk about weak or strong nations then this is the case in every sport; take it in tenis, football, badminton or hockey. In Football World Cup, you don't say that all teams are comptetive. I think there were some 8 groups in last world cup and there were 1-2 weak teams in every group there.

as per football is concerned it is too competitive.. even a country like india which is not even in top-100 has craze for football.. after 10 years who knows what will happen.. might india start losing interest in cricket like England.. i am talking abt present situation whr competition is very less in cricket.. and most of the weak sporting nations play it..

I don't think 'lack of cometetition' means more no. of countries playing the game.. otherwise Zimb, Bang, Canada would have won WC by now... The skill-level required to be in top 8 is very high... this has nothing to do with population. There are several factors like facilities, coaches, approach etc., will also influence the game.

i bet if 100 countries play cricket "seriously" then it will be 10 times more competition in cricket.and cricket is played mostly by unsportive and weak nations like pakistan, bangladesh, sri-lanka etc.. where economy is down, facilities are lesser.. there is a steep declining in the interest of cricket in england. cricket is just another sports in australia. so, cricket is not competitve in the international level.

I do not think that more countries will take to playing cricket in the 50-over format or Tests ever. No one has the time to watch them even on the TV..forget about going to stadium. Audience has the time to watch a 3 to 4 hour game if it is exciting..that too on a Saturday/Sunday. Otherwise, forget people buying tickets for the game and going to the stadium. Somehow, people in the sub-continent are crazy about cricket and have the time to watch one-day cricket. I do not think that you can create the same level of interest in other countries. And do not compare World Cup Football with WC Cricket. It is a tough schedule for teams to enter the final round of WC Football, even for countries with 'reserved place' - like from Africa and Asia. By the time, the last 8 stage is reached, the tournament is dominated by teams from Europe, and may be a couple from S.America and on rare occassions, a single team from Africa. All the players are professional; they play for a living, mostly in Europe.

World cup is losing its Grace due to the presence of minnows at the highest platform of best cricketing nation's particiapting. Infact, the Top 6 Teams should be playing, Round Robin with all play all format. Top 4 Teams to play in Semi-final and more important , the Final should be best of 3. This will take care of Greatest uncertainity. This will help the Best Team to be Winner without slightest of the Doubt.
