he is just trying to be in limelight..no crickter worth his salt would give up a chance to play for his country.,.there is no percivable benefit either ganguly or harbhajan would derive by not playing....by this logic they would never have played any games abroad..
ganguly was a bold and fierce crickter and comptetitor..hayden , while being an awesome batsman is a loser other wise iff the field/.

Dunno abt Bajji, but Ganguly had a lot to worry about. His form around that time was third rate; he was India's non-playing captain before that, and had been recently replaced by Dravid. He had even been dropped, and re-selected. In view of his own poor form, and the knowledge of his own game -- that he rarely does well on fast-bowler friendly tracks -- it is certainly possible. He did express dismay over the track a few days before the game started. Doesn't mean he did it on purpose, but he certainly had a motive to stay out.

Maximus, you have got your facts wrong...Ganguly was the captain at that time and not Dravid...

highly speculative..in anycase no one in cricket has ever benfitted by sitting out...infact if u are out of form and someone else plays instead of u and does well, it ffurther decreases ur chances or being selected.

Ganguly might have a weakness against bouncy deliveries..agreed..but calling him a coward..not true..i thought he was a fierce fighter on field. Ganguly matched aussies in their attitude..unlike other players. They can't digest the idea of anyone making fun of them in the same way they belittle others...I liked Ganguly for this single character he embodied..he gave tit-for-tat replies to aussies...

where was gunguly in the first test match against aus in 2001? where was his attitude then? where was he in kolkata, Lakshman and dravid made the day, else gunguly would have been gone after that series. Nagpur story is another example. Gunguly himself said once he is bored waiting for his turn to bat and came at no:3 and failed. If he is so bored why he insisted Dravid, who is so successful @3 to open in a green top against pakistan? why he did not take up the challenge? He is nothing but a media hype. He is good ODI batsmen but in test cricket he does not make the cut. The standard to be considered as good test batsmen is to average 50 , again Lakshman averages just below 50 but he has batted in numerous batting position and was never a first choice till gunguly's retirement. To be frank we have missed a lot of master class from Lakshman because of gunguly batting at 5 and Lakshman @6.

Have u ever played cricket u big mouth , laxman & dravid are great players & where key people in India winning the match at Eden gardens against aussies , but , that doesn't mean that ganguly was nothing he has also played many memorable knocks for india . Because of people like u outsiders get chance to comment such things . First try to give respect to others & then talk .
what hayden has said about ganguly and bhajji is 100% correct. its hard to digest the truth. but thats not the point. anyone can win on its own strengths but it is real victory when you beat the others in their own game. it means aussies are masters at their game on green pitches. it would have been really great if india and beaten them in that series decider test. but alas, that was not to be because the indians were comfortable only with non-grass pitches. ganguly's susceptibility to pace on green pitches is well known.

Tks to the green top, the aussies managed to win one series in India. Otherwise it would have been the same old story. So much to boast about.
The whole point is put something controversial in a cricket book about Indian stars, Indian media, like a moron will over emphasis it and people will buy the book...what crap.....they got their a s s kicked by Bhajji and the fighter Daya and Bhajji are,,,it sound nothing but a publicity stunt by the downed aussie
leave aside the authenticity of haydens comments leave aside the chickening of ganguly n bhajji the real point is, aussies were handed a green turf by an indian curator in an important match of the series being played in India. all because of Dalmiya and Pawar.. so we can conclude we Indians can scrw ourselves and let our enemy win just to get even with someone who is an Indian as well. Ganguly can chicken out Bhajji can chicken out pawar can win dalmiya can lose But in the end, what mattered was India lost.

@Rosogollaz - you are correct and this is in our blood; British conquered India and ruled us by assisting one of the Indians (in every war) in internecine conflicts. History seemed to repeat (or worse, continue) !

Very well said. Ghar ka bhedi lanka dhai. Just to take revenge on Ganguly they made the green top and India lost in the end. Nobody questioned or screwed the real culprits Pawar and Manohar. By the way I didn't see any other Indian batsmen apart from Dravid, Lax and sachin handling short pitch stuff well. Nobody talks about how badly Raina, Gambhir, Dhoni, Yuvi handled short pitch stuff in the recently concluded SA series
Re: Re: the real point
by kalyanaraman s. on Feb 05, 2011 12:02 AM
Raina, Ganbhir et al., did not have to handle short-pitched deliveries ! either they were out very quickly (to even ordinary balls) or just ran away from the bowling !

Small correction- Gambhir was instrumental in saving the 3rd test. Raina and Yuvi are of course suspect in front of both short pitch bowling and quality spin.

Shashank Manohar, present BCCI chairman make sure that the turf is veggie green in Nagpur test match just to make a point of Saurav's weakness for short pitch hot stuff, aussie won the game. Hats off to politics.

soco, ur comment is as funny as ur name. who stopped hayden to play for 10 years n not more than that ?
secondly u cnt appreciate hayden's batting without criticizing SACHIN. such a frustrated loser u r? he he he
It was a spat between Dalmia and Sharad Pawar - to whom settling political vendatta is more important than Indian Cricket . Period .You can write anything .
