There are four possible scenarios:

1.India batting first-

a.Batting pitch and good batting conditions-

India can post 250 against most oppositions, even against the ones with the best bowling attacks.

Can Indian bowlers defend 250 on a good batting wicket against a good batting side?

Ans: Doubtful.

b.Bowling pitch. India can still make 180-220 against most oppositions.

Can Indian bowlers defend 180-220?

Ans: No.

2.India batting second

a.Batting pitch: India bowlers can easily give away 280 or more runs

Can India chase 280 or more against a good bowling attack?

Ans: Sometimes.

b.Bowling pitch: Indian bowlers will still give away 200-220 runs.

Can India chase 220 on a touch pitch against a good attack?

Ans: No

Conclusion: In all of the 4 scenarios it is clear that it is the bowlers who will decide India’s fate. And because India’s bowling attack is ordinary, I do not at rate India’s chances very high. India’s batting is great but sides with the best bowling attacks win more matches, you can check history.

I agree with you. People are so short sighted with the batsmen funda that they forget that the bowler just needs 1 delivery to get the batsman out.

Not at all, we should score between 280 - 300 in every match and win. There is no Bowling wicket in Sub continent, so Bowlers will be belted... India should always go with 8 batsmen and make sure run rate in 6/ over

corrent. But this time, big hitters are in form for all the teams. India has to go ahead with 300-325 runs if batting first.

It is not always possible to make 280-300 even on good batting pitches. 20 run short, i.e. 260 and a good opposition on a batting wicket, with no wicket taker bowlers except zaheer, game over.

winning the toss
by Rupesh Majethiya on Feb 01, 2011 04:52 PM

is not the only important thing. in the past many indian captains have taken horrible decisions after winning the toss.
here are the examples.
1) Eden Garden fiasco, India 120/8
Azaharuddin after winning the toss, elected to field first. Sri lanka made 250 odd runs. the wicket behaved very strangely while india was chasing even jayasurya and arvinda got ball to turn square. everybody knew it was the new wicket and it was always a batting first wicket.

2) 2003 world cup final.
Ganguly opted to field first and Australia scored 359 which was was in those imposable to chase.

Its not about winning the toss certainly
