Anyone with an unbiased mind will tell you first hand that Ponting is an all time great. Yea, he has been in poor form since the last 3-4 years, but that doesn't take away the legacy/mark he has left behind in his 15-16 years of international career.
The problem with most of the sour Indian fans is that they either hate him because of his poor conduct throughout his career, or they lend their support to him solely because they are envious of Sachin. There are very few neutral Indian fans who's accept him as an all time great, without having an envious mind against Tendulkar.

I hate him as a captain but as a batsman he is among the best. I have not seen a batsman play the pull shot as aesthetically as him. I think he needs to be in the team. On a sinister note, India can be the reason he finally retires.

once an umpire objected when sachin removed mud from the ball. ponting said 'you cant catch us doing that'
rehabilitation(massage, mild therapy water rehab, etc) is possible for bowlers coming out of injury. It can be rotation of 2-3 over between three bowlers. For example, here is rotation plan for bowler x, y and z for 3 over spells. 3(x), 3(y), 3(z) the bowler coming out of injury is x can do 3 over spell before going for rehab while the next "two bowlers" y and z complete 3 overs between them. x comes of rehab and does 3 over spell with only y or x from opposite end or "both y and z" rotating on opposite end. Many combinations are possible such that x can have rehab after 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 over spell depending on his ease and recovery level.
where Zaheer is not impresive in warm up match and Ishant is not fit.. Only Umesh and Ashwin is doing good job..For this bowling line up... even they can call Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh
so that he scores a double ton against listless Indian bowling nad CAN RETIRE ON A HIGH.he shouldnt play after 4 tests against India no matter how many runs he scores bcos he wont be able to reproduce the effort in 2013 ashes.Indian bowlers will be obliging to leak runsand bowl short and wide as always..so heres thechance for Punter to retire on a high.Mark my words
Its high time Ponting retired. With whatever cricket left with him, he cannot evev touch Sachin or Dravid. Better accept the fact and retire to a life of peace and acceptance than try what he can never achieve......

his form in the recently concluded nz series does not support the fact...... he should go back to learning school and once he does.....it will be too late for a comeback......
