There is not a single other Aussie batsman who can really be labelled as a better equipped batsman against Indian attack.Admittedly his age and reflex mechanism are not his positives but his experience to combat the present Indian attack with the only exception of Ashwin is a huge positive in his favour to be in the side.
but question should be would ponting play and answer is yes... record hungry aussies will keep ponting playing until he breaks sachin record of most test runs and 100's even if it takes another 10-12 years and ponting have to be brought to crease in wheelchar with a runner... aussies will keep on losing but that does not matter... bangladesh should play aussie now... they will get their first test win over aussies and ponting may get some runs...

You are a true Aussie fan. Always thinking of Oz win. Wish we had some indian fans like u.
Against India and he will sure make runs. After all India has a record of providing struggling batsman opportunity to resurrect their careers by scoring heavily against a mediocre bowling attack....
For one thing, Ponting is a good batsman and he has to go out on his own terms. Second thing, Indian bowlers might as well give him a fresh lease of life by making him score freely and prolong his career. Indian bowlers have been capable of reinstating some of the fading careers and also in some cases making heroes out of average players. Numerous instances in the past are testimony of this, and the latest example being Rampaul's exploits and record 10th wicket patnership in the ODIs. Will they live upto their old reputation or change the history will have to be seen.
