Its Slaughter of the lambs ....
by Rohit Maroli on Dec 14, 2011 07:42 AM  | Hide replies

It will be a 4 - 0 White wash , this is serious top level test cricket in australia and not playing at chennai vs a club class west indies line up ranked 8th.

Apart from dravid , laxman and dhoni ... none will perform .... against the bouncy and seamy wickets .... the inconsistent ishant sharma and the injured zaheer wont be of much help...Zaheer khan has received many a tonk from the aussies and good teams and lacks the zip...tey will most probably include vinay kumar s the third seamer...and he is likely to be wayward and he doesnt have any zip or pace... I hate to be critical but lets face facts guys...u need bowlers like southee , bracewell , boult who devastated the aussie line up to win the Hobart test... and Zaheer Ishant , Vinay kumar , Mithun , Amitabh , Jackie....sounds like slaughter of the lambs...!

Wake up dude. Dhoni's record in Australia is pathetic! I like your optimism when u say Dhoni will perform...... But with an avg of 17.62 in tests played in australia, how do u say he WILL perform? Wait till the series is over. 9 runs in a T20 is nothing to boast of. And with his SR in ODIs in Australia of 63.57, he is a very great batsman indeed :)

Fully agree with you. Had predicted similar outcome on this board before the english series and sadly all came true. However cricket is played more in the minds then on the field. Hence the first two days are critical. If India (luck favoring) gets to good start will outline the rest of the series and even the ODIs.

dhoni's style of playing cricket makes him an outright selection as 'Captain' of the All India Gulli Danda Team.

I mention dhoni as he will be batting at no 7 and tat way he gets to play a relatively older ball - tats point 1 and point 2 is he always plays under pressure , absorbs pressure well...he doesnt have a text book technique but he wont give up his wicket cheaply, he gets behind the line of the ball ...and he will def play one or two good innings under pressure take tat from me dude....!

Looking at the comments below, I fail to see what is wrong in Dhoni backing inexperienced bowlers...... He will be leading the team and he is providing a motivation to them. The attack is not fully inexperienced.
Zaheer and Ishant will the main bowlers supported by either Yadav or Mithun or Vinay. Spin will be Ojha or Ashwin. If either 2 or 3 bowl well, we can have a game on hands!!
The only concern could be on the fitness of the bowling dept.

sreesanth should have been selected ahead of mithun & vinay kumar. He is fiery & bully , would have returned fire for fire. alas does not enjoy the confidence of dhoni & selectors.

India's strength is always been batting, second comes bowling.

If u are putting enough runs on the board, u are on the safer side.

The Karnataka bowlers are not fast because they don't have good biceps-the root cause of which can be attributed to their diet.Stop having dosa,Idli and sambar and start including some meat in your diet!!

Sharanu, it is really shame on Srikant that he succumbs to pressure from Kumbli. Kumbli is like a small boy. If your idol Srikant can succumb to pressure from Kumbli, then he is a waste body. I pity that you dont have brains.

Can Dhoni bat on aussie pitches ?
by jaguar on Dec 13, 2011 02:24 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni has emerged as the best WK-batsman in India since Syed Kirmani. He's played some great innings on 'dead' pitches.. It would be interesting to see how he will performed on those lively tracks in down under. His performaces with the bat in England and South Africa were pathetic.

Really. His performance in SA was actually pretty good. That is not to say he needs to discover how to bat or pace his innings in a test match.

such people will remember that dravid was successful in test series and praise despite white wash...same people will forget MOS in odi series and lambast him for white wash...some people will remember somebody scored top score in first test is SA in both innings but forget who was 2nd top scorer in the same test...they will remember somebody's 100 in SA but forget somebody else's 90 in the same test....

some people are like that only...

Dont dare compare Dravid with this piece of junk!!!!test cricket means applying your skills not throwing your bat..has dhoni ever played a proper cricketing shot!! hes fit for T20...people who are barking..please check the latest stats on his test arena..we are talking about the test series to begin with...not the ODIs....

Make proper comparison. Compare him with lower middle order batsman. 40 is excellent batting average for a number 7 batsman that too if he is a WK.

Srinivasan, Dhoni may not play a proper cricketing shot. But he is getting runs (which is important). And he is not fit for T20. He is suited most in the top order (2 or 3 down) in ODIs.

Gentlemen : Thanks for ur views. I should have made it clear earlier that my observation was on 'Test' cricket..Dhoni's performance in Test matches played on 'live' pitches has been very mediocre and we all know that. He's a very good player as far as ODIs and T20s are concerned but he is no Gilchrist in Test cricket. He got to do something special to be remembered as a great test player.

Jaguar, i was ALSO talking about his test scores and ALSO his scores in AWAY matches... for eg. though i mentioned his odi MOS it was in ENGLAND...thereafter i pointed out that he was second highest test scorer in first test in SA and made 90 on SA pitch when in the same test innings somebody made 100 and he was remembered and dhoni was conveniently forgotten....also in the ONLY test we won in SA last time if you care to remember sachin was the only failure all others contributed and we won in SA even though sachin FAILED...also it was dhoni who scored MORE than sachin in BOTH innings..and gave excellent support to laxman and helped us win a test in SA...

also in england in one test in both innings dhoni scored MORE than sachin, dravid, laxman and sehwag in BOTH innings of the same test and you think dhoni cannot score abroad?

Pray tell me which other wicket keeper you want who can and will score MORE than dhoni...take karthick, parthiv, saha, uthappa, or whoever who want dhoni is better than ALL other wicket keeper batsmen in india and whoever you take will scoree LESS than dhoni not more than him whether in india or abroad...

Jiju, saha karthick patel etc. have got chances to do well both at home and away and they have failed to prove themselves better than dhoni either as a wicket keeper or as a batsman...they are not doing better than dhoni even on indian pitches. forget that they will do better than dhoni on foreign soil..

Viayda, I never mentioned Patel. He is never a good batsman. And ur bias is so exposed again.... U say Saha, Karthik got chances to do well but they failed.
You might be dejected to see that Saha was given only 1 test & 4 ODIs (he got to bat only once).
Kartik has played 23 tests and scored 1000 runs. When Dhoni played 23 tests, his score was 1174 runs..... Not a very big margin considering 46 innings right?

And regarding keeping, Kartik was sent for all 3rd grade teams which involved sub standard bowlers from India. So, nothing great achieved by Dhoni. Unfortunately cricinfo does not give a count of dropped catches. Or else, your idol would be featuring in it.

9 wickets in 4 test matches, 3 wickets in 5 ODI, that is Mithun's international record for India.
In domestic cricket, he has 103 wickets in 28 first class matches and 35 in list A (50 over games), so is that an impressive record?
Here are Pathan's stats:
154 ODI wickets in 108 matches, avgs 23 with the bat, 100 test wickets in 29 matches and avgs 32 with bat.
322 wickets in 91 first class matches, avgs 31 with bat, 224 wickets in list a and avg with bat is 22 (mind it he bats mostly at no 7 or 8 or 9!

We have a good experience bowler like Ashish Nehra,Irfan Phthan, Srisanth,Harbhajan,RP Singh
They Have done well in the past Because of the selection committee politics selectors are supporting there own state players
Even They are no quality bowlers They have no ability to take 20 wickets.
