Pace and Swing was the problem.
by Ashwin on Aug 29, 2011 10:56 PM

The only problem Indian team faced throughout the test series was pace and swing. Almost all batsmen struggled against English bowlers except Swan.

Who is Kapil Dev
by Sunil Vaidya on Aug 29, 2011 09:50 AM  | Hide replies

Who is Kapil Dev to speak about Dhoni's team? He had all heroes in his winning team of 83 world cup. But Dhoni had to elevate each player from the dump. Hats off Dhoni!

Dude Kapil won world cup against all odds. First mighty West Indies, second English conditions and third racism against asian breed. At that time no dew, home conditions and hooligan Mumbai crowd was there at that time to support Kapil and his team.

Also Dhoni brought up the team from real abyss situation from 2007.He is the only reason why we won 2007 WC, Test No.1 status and world cup 2011. Maybe you forgot, but apart from 175 against Zimbabwe (such a hopeless team), what did Kapil do?

Just the catch of Viv Richards or his bowling thru the tournament ( Hint: Check record of Kapil in ODO finals versus Srinath, difference of day and night ).... so take a hike.

That Windies team was a monster and beating the Chappell/Lillee Aus team in a must win game, beating a Willis/Botham team in semis and the Windies in the final basically changed cricket forever.

When people speak truth, some fools like you always try to tell the opposite. Have you ever known what hard work Dhoni had to do to get the world cup? He is the real hero, not your false hero Sachin.

First know the truth. Kapil was a real true all rounder in that era with Imran ,Hadlee & Botham.1st player to bag 434 wkts.Dhoni has no credit to win WC. When he saw base was strong he came before Yuvi, but there was no need of that.We saw his batting in England.
There is no such fool & ugly mean minded creature in India like U to compare Dhoni with Kapil.
U know nothing about CKT.So stop this foolish talk. There is nobody to support U.

Only fools like U will comment like this. In 1983 WC Kapil Dev made 175 againgt ZIM from 17 for 5 otherwise India could not won that WC. Kapil Dev is all time great all rounder and greatest Bowler of India.
Dhoni did not elevate any player. He had the platform which was made by Ganguly. Also Kapil made it in other country against that great WI team of Lloyd and Dhoni made it in Indian pitch when great teams like Aus and Pak and SRL was lack of quality players. Only SA had quality players and India lost to them. What was Dhoni's performance agaist pace attack and in fast pitch, seaming and swing condition we know.
Dhoni has no cricket brain, only luck.
Who have only a little knowledge about cricket will not compare like this.

Performance of Kapil as captain in 1983 WC was total run-303(6,2,40,36,175,28,1,15),Wkts-12,catch-7(175 runs at a position 17/5,bowling in final-11 ov,21 run ,1 wkt,2 catches)
Performance of Dhoni in 2011 WC Run-241(0,31,34,19,12,22,7,25,91),catch/stump-10(also 3 catch dropped)in final came at 4th position when 114/3, and Yuvi Raina,Bhajji was waiting, not required, only came to improve record.
Again Kapil did it in England in fast pitch, seaming and swing condition and Dhoni did it in flat Indian pitch in front of home support.
Before 1983 WC Football and Hockey was as popular as CKT and players did not emerged all over the country but after winning 1983 WC,CKT became most popular game and new players started emerging.CKT in India started improving. The result shows quality and quantity of players all around ,from every part of the country. Otherwise Dhoni may have been a railway ticket checker now.
In 1983 probably U were a child.

Sunil Vaidya:

:) Good cricketing knowledge... :)

But of course you consider Yuvi, Raina, Zaheer, Dhoni (himself), Sachin, Bhajji, Sehwag, Gambhir etc. as "dumps"... .right? :)

No, all old players are the parasites of Indian Team. First send them all home, see how the team will progress under Dhoni's captaincy.

No I don't consider them dump. But in present days these players are not keeping them fit and playing more and more CKT. that's why there is frequent injury (like Yuvi,Zaheer,Sehwag,Gamhir)and failure. Also before any tough away series U have to make urself ready.U know this England team defeated Australia in Asses series by 3-0, so as No.-1 team before going to England you must analyse UR loopholes and their loopholes and strength by a video expert. But became greedy for money after WC U played IPL,then WI series, then England series without break. What was the time for homework ? Any senior CKTR should not be allowed to play IPL. It is a good platform for new players to play with foreign players for Exp. and for future generation.

Can Kapil forget?
by Narayanan Sangameswaran on Aug 29, 2011 08:42 AM

Kapil won the world cup in 1983 and can anyone who is old enough forget how WI came to India and trashed India in every nook and corner of the country? The only excuse it that, that team did not pretend to be No. 1. We just stole the cup from WI even though they remained No. 1. But now, we acted no. 1 for a while and could not sustain it for long.

Sack non performers...
by K Ram on Aug 29, 2011 07:16 AM  | Hide replies

As long as the selection committee tries to satisfy region and religion based quota systems, Team India can only go down further in stature. It's bemusing to see people still harping on Irfan's inclusion in the team. In fact, such talks about Yusuf Pathan might sound more reasonable. It's time, non performers however great they're must be shown exit doors. Players like, Harbhajan have become liability to the team. `wonder how many more series the selectors would give Sachin to realise his 100th ton? To add to the woes, media too tries its best to play spoilsport by trying its bit in making and breaking a player's career with vested interests. Let the team be selected on a player's current stats and form and not based on the past laurels. Giving complete freedom to Dhoni in team selection can only worsen the situation further. Lesser players like (who bowls at 120 kmph at the age of 25 itself) RP Singh etc., only would get a look in and talent will be ignored.
