to be positive and aggressive...play the following team:Gambhir,Sehwag,Dravid,Sachin,Laxman,Dhoni,Mishra,Ishant,Pravin,RP Singh and Ojha...if five batsmen plus Dhoni can not deliver an additional batsman can not...RP Singh in place of Sreesanth to add variety to pace attack.

on green top sreesanth can be dangerous for opponents. RP might struggle as he just arrived.

I think there's no point in going with three right hand pacers... you need some variety...

Green top...

Why is England taking risk? India's record is awesome on green top in last few years. We won comfortably in Perth, Durban, Hamilton, Barbados etc.

India's batting is struggling while England batsman are doing well, so England should play on a 450 plus runs pitch and try to put India on their knees.

In perth we had a better bowling lineup than what we have now.

The bowling sucks plain and simple. Not that batting is any better.

perth is a "hard" pitch not green pitch....pace n bounce...ball doesnot swing in AUS tracks....all AUS pitches are good for batting....ENG pitches are different...not so hard but swing...swing in the air of the pitch...u cant hit through the line....that's the problem for flat pitch bullies....if u r not good at ur footwork, ur gone!!!!!
not many batsmen excelled under ENG conditions....durban...hard surface, barbados...hard...hamilton...good batting track....

By your own admission, English pitches are not batsmen friendly and hence cannot be called sporting pitches.

Because by your own words , a sporting pitch should have something for both batsmen and bowlers.

for "flat pitch bullies"....these pitches are virtual hell.....but for dravid, tendlya, laxman, trott, bell, richards, vengsarkar....u can go n add plenty of such players....it's as usual.....remeber sporting pitches are not "flat tracks"....only good capable players only score....results are right in front of u....it's sporting in the sense no home advantage, ur bowlers can also run through the side!!!!if u have good enough bowlers....does IND have those bowlrs..???

I can understand what you are trying to say, but your logic is flawed

Let me change a few words. According to you the english pitches are sporting because they support the pace bowlers of both teams ?

Well if thats the case, then the deteriorating pitches are also sporting because they support the spinners of both teams.

The dustbowls are also sporting because both team batsmen have the opportunity to score runs.

Also correction " The ball doesn't SWING AS MUCH AS ENGLAND" when compared to the aussie pitches.

The aussie pitches have their share of swing. They just don't retain the swing for 5 days.

Please watch a few matches on Perth, may be on youtube and you will know whether it swings there or not!! It may not be as much as it does in say Headingly. Also if a pitch offers more than enough swing how you can you call it sporting!! Foolish just as I said.

swing is different...."deviation in the air"......seam movement is different " off the seam movement after pitching"....leg cutter n off cutter these are seam movements not swing....AUS pitches are "hard"....perth is "rock hard"....tall bounce and seam movement.....dont get confused with movement after pitching and movement in the air.....AUS pitches dont offer much movement in the air....in ENG conditions it's swing , swing and plenty throught the day....

And that is not good. If the pitch supports only a particular brand of bowling, it can't be called sporting. I will call a green top an under-perpared pitch (just as some choose to call a spinning track under-prepared). If India prepares mud-tracks then the onus is on the opposition batsmen to play it the correct way!! In fact I hate calling any pitch under-prepared unless it has wayward movement off the pitch from the first day itself. Different conditions are meant to test different skills of a batsman an the better equiped ones are successful. If SA and Eng players can't handle spin and bounce on a mud-track the fault lies with their techniques (and thats why some of the Aus like the Waughs, Damien Martyn and even Haddin came good in India). Although going by facts alone, India doesn't produce absolute spinning tracks anymore(may be because we don't have good spinners anymore), like the way they used to in Azhar era.

it's india who is struggling when tours abroad....learn abt....deteriorating pitch and sporting pitch....

My thoughts
by Srinivasan Rajagopal on Aug 09, 2011 11:32 AM

If at all there was one who messed up Dravid's career and demoralized him, it was Dilip Vengsarkar. This guy has literally toyed with his career. He was double tongued when he mentioned as a great leader, when leading our side and commented him as a single dimensional player, when dropping him. Honestly Dravid was made the scape goat in the spat between the board and Chappell. India was not ready for chappelsque like Coaching technique. Dravid, tried to mould the team along with chappell, but was called by many as a puppet to chappell. This was further strengthend by the publication of Ganguly's email and sachin's public outburst when chappell questioned him. There was no unity in the team that was chosen for the 2007 world cup. Look at the innings of Sourav, sachin, Dhobi, Yuvraj (needlessly run out) and harbhajan against the must win game against lanka. Never have i seen a captain standing in the stands, crying his heart out. please spare a thought for this gentleman. Had he played continuosly in ODIs, he definitely would have adapted to the pace of it. However, past is past, and I love you Rahul for What you are. May god bless you with longevity and bless us in making us watch you bat on and on and on and on in Tests. Gud Luck

4 overs of IPL does not injure anyone or can test fitness of the bowler. Infact team A india should be practicing for Number 1 program like angrez did and playing IPL only once in two years. While team B and team C can play every year and have player available when ICC over-schedules to stall Number 1 program.

Mukund can be replaced by Kohli, why 4 fast bowlers, Munaf could be replaced and captain Dhoni come in. Gambhir is not a good choice as captain, he has still to learn..

To win a test match, you need to take 20 wickets first. Scoring runs is a secondary matter.

you mentioned about batsmen scoring 400 runs first :)

I just reiterated that the batsmen can score 1000 runs and still lose the match, because the bowlers didn't take 20 wickets :)

Ya, look at Broad's scores and Dhoni's (in this series). There is nothing wrong in looking up to Broad's scores. But maybe Dhoni is looking at Abey Kuruvilla as an example. Because he started bowling and scoring like Abey in this series. His last 11 innings in tests are 0, 16, 2, 5, 3, 74, 28, 16, 5, 0, 2 (74 in West Indies is the only good knock he played, i wont be crude enough to call it weak bowling since our Indian bowling itself is so weak now). Broad already scored 0, 74, 64, 44 in the matches played in this series. Now who should be taken as example, tell me.

anway it is munaf, mishra & ishant who are doing the bulk of work than dhobiji, SRT, Lax, Yuvi. If there is any honest and hardworking player in the team, it is Dravid. Rest all are fit for nothing! I hope sehwag's presence will help. bhajji was the pet of our captain. so, he was in the team till date. our bowling power simply depended on Zak. It is so bald now! and i shudder to think of a test match in England/SA/NZ/Aus without Dravid,Lax & Sachin. The youngsters look very raw on bouncy pitches.

Let board decide
by Raja on Aug 09, 2011 10:16 AM

As long as the players are made to pick and choose as to which matches they are going to play the indian cricket will never improve. Players like sachin normally skip tours to WI,SL, Zim and so on are so are other senior players. But the same sachin never does it when he plays for MI. He plays all the 14 round robin matches irrespective of how crucial the match is to them. They are paid an annual retainer fee of 80L which means he is bound to play all international matches for that year and but he skips the entire tour of WI but still pockets the entire retainership amount. I am not against sachin alone on this but all those who pick and choose the tours and BCCI should not permit this. The players are getting salary to accomplish certain task as most of us are and i dont know as to how many ppl like us can choose as to what we can work and what not to in our organisation......
