Without zaheer, i am not so sure. But they will fight and try. With so many injuries, what else can one do. But RP if he can get the ball to swing, which is his forte, he can help really well.

"South Asian diaspora in Birmingham would definitely ensure Team India have more support than England in the third Test but not all is hunky dory for the visitors."

Logically you are correct but it is not practical.... Any person of any country.... will always be with his home soil... It does not matter that for last 5 or 10 or 20 years he is living in another country and already citizen of that country....

Its not a war, just a match of cricket and it is natural to support whichever team you deem fit or recognize yourself with.

Still we keep on delivering visitor friendly pitches in India. SA, Eng and Aus needs to be given a taste of their own medicine when they visit India. Only if BCCI wakes up from its slumber.

Whi is afraid of Grass?
by A Singh on Aug 09, 2011 05:14 PM  | Hide replies

Indian antipathy towards grass reminds me of Ivan Lendl, who was frustrated by the grass at Wimbledon throughout his career, and once famously remarked: "Grass is for cows." I don't know why Indians should be afraid of a green pitch. If the pitch is green, and offers something to the bowlers, even the Indian seamers can make some inroads in the strong English batting. A wicket devoid of grass, on the other hand will render Indian attack totally ineffective, particularly when they have no spinner worth his salt in the attack. And England have the attack to dismantle Indian batting, even on a grassless track. So why worry about grass?

sunil k, so if a ball hits a batsman (and a BD bowler at that, due to which he has to miss the next test against SA) he is to be considered as a good batsman, who can handle short stuff, can play on bad pitches has good batting technique..etc, etc???

ha ha ha i dont know whether to laugh or cry...

sunil k have you difficulties in reading and understanding plain english?...

mental, stupid how did you escape from the hospital?

this is ur level of understanding? i said ''hurt'' did i say out? not that dravid did not get out ever in his life...you think he remained not out in both tests? he he he

sunil k, according to u somebody who does not get hit by a ball is having less ability than somebody who gets hit and has to miss the next test?

sunil k, why dont you just learn something about cricket before you post here...everybody laughs at ur post...ur as ignorant about cricket as ever before...the only difference in your posts that i can discern is that exclamation marks are no more there and they are replaced by dots...no other change...

at least these new generation players play in the match and they can get 'out'..poor dravid he is already ''out'' of match and hence cannot get 'out' in the normal sense of the word...

sunil k dont i remember you once claiming in your post that you do some cricket coaching? ha ha ha either you lied or if you spoke the truth i really pity the poor guys who had to suffer your coaching (???)....ha ha ha

Cutting down the risk.
by D S on Aug 09, 2011 05:07 PM  | Hide replies

too much risk in pushing Laxman and mukund into the 11, it is playing wild card.

I would say, have rohit replace Laxman or Mukund. Seems that is not possible because selectors have kept rohit out.
Now get an EXRTA SPINNER such as Rahul or Ashwin to apply more force to bowling attack by resting tendulkar or dhoni (Dravid can keep the wickets).

RP for Sresanth
Pragyan for Mishra / Munaf

And somehow, Sachin should call in sick so Rohit can be allowed in case he is fit.
otherwise, sachin ego will block anyone who takes his slot and wont allow him to do good.

Well rohit didn't play in WI and still we won the series (although we don't like the way we won it). In fact Rohit is yet to play a test and still we are no 1 ranked team. This guy has talent for sure, but no character and hence no longevity as a test cricketer. Will be a poor investment for India in test.

LOL....looks like you need a lesson in cricket history. This team won in perth, durban, hamilton, barbados where the home team prepared bouncy pitches to counter indias so called 'flat pitch' batters. We know what happened then dont we. India is just going thru a bad patch(compounded by itinerary probs, injuries, bad luck), and they will come out of it. 2 matches losing is no big deal dude. We are still no1 ranked and world champs in ODIs. Guys like u who pull the team are luckily in a minority. We love team India and they will play like champs soon.

WOw..amazed at your knowledge! Ball comes on nicely in Aus/SA. IF its so easy, then why did every team except India get whitewashed everytime they used to travel to Aus? Remember India drew 1-1 during Aus peak years in 2004. And as for swing, thats obvious because we dont have such conitions in India. And dont forget the lack of backup matches before Eng tour to get used to conditions? And whenever eng/SA comes here, dont they get trashed by our spinners? Its the same for every team,so get out of your colonial hangover and learn some humility. India is the best period. The rankings dont lie, and neither do the trophies in BCCI cupboard

Doesn't every team in the world tailor make pitches to match their team's strength ?

Do Aussies/ SA/ England prepare turning pitches ?

So compare this to England who have just started wearing diapers and giving their soiled ones to your mother for washing them. Otherwise there would not be any reason why you would bash a team who had done what no other team in Indian cricketing history has done. Rule the test world for 20 months. In that aspect , the English Pitches are not sporting since they support the english pacers. Ditto for SA and Aus Pitches.

Ok we don't have a world class spinner after Kumble, but riddle me this -- How many spin friendly pitches are there apart from the indian subcontinent ?

I am not saying that Indian pitches are bowler friendly. What I am saying is that Indian pitches are tailor made to the Indian team strength which is " BATTING"

I think you are confused between Sporting pitches and pitches prepared for home team

England pitches favour pacers by a long shot. English Pacers are traditionally their best when they are on such pitches.

Waqar / Wasim might have destroyed english batting, but the same was metted to them by the English bowlers.

Every Country prepares pitches that suits their team's strength the best. Nothing wrong in Indians doing the same

A sporting pitch should have something for the pacers, something for the bowlers and something for the batsmen.

The english pitches favour pacers ONLY ! Tell me how is this sporting.

And yes, Indian pacers are crap and 2nd grade as of now.Frankly Indian Bowling attack has never been a strong point.

So if you want to create a genuine Sporting pitch, it should be neutral to both teams. But that rarely happens. Every country makes picthes that helps their team the best

ENG pitches offering everything for players....swing early in the inningse, after lunch pitch dries out sun is out it becomes managable for batting...as the day progresses good for batting but still gets a bit quicker and bouncier u can extract bounce, play a lot of strokes, can turn a bit ....but if ur bowlers are pathatic u cant do much about it.....theses are quality test pitches where only good test class batsmen and bowlers excell.....ENG is far superior than india in terms of batting and bowling what's ur problem.....ur knowledge about cricket pitch and sporting pitch is "pathatic"....learn about deterioratin mud track and a sporting pitch......on these kind of same pitches kapil, binney and chethan sharma won a test series against strong ENG team way back....last series IND won 1-0....

Because by your definition a spin friendly track is just as sportive as a pace friendly track

spin friendly pitch means "deteriorating mud track"....IND try to change the test centre pitches of late...re laid all test ceter pitches....chennai, b'lore, mumbai, kanpur, delhi.....result....pathatic...lost true nature of pitches....all dead n burried low n slow as match progresses....mohali is the only sporting pitch never deteriorates....spin friendly means under preparing it....dug it out, role it heavily, expose the top surface to sun, do not water it few days before a test match, the result is top surface comes off with in an hour of the game....becomes uneven dust bowl.jumps, turns, skidds..all sorts of things...match over in 4 days....AUS has "sydney" cricket ground......spins on day 3 onwards, but no deterioration, just turns...AUS lost many test matches at this ground to spin....they never changed it.... well u have a pathatic cricket knowledge...ENG pitches are the same over a decade...they never "under prepare" their pithces....all world class swing n seam bowlers, for ages destroyed ENG batsmen with quality bowling exhibition...WI pace attack, PAK pace attack, AUS pace attack....all of them have successfully won test series against ENG in the past....poor IND seamers dont have the talent to bowl on these surface....we had very good track..chennai...hard surface bounce n spin....but resently destroyed it, re laid the pitch now it's dead n burried.....this is the state of IND pitches....
