Standard of Cricket has declined....
by Muhammed on Apr 15, 2011 12:16 PM

There is no contest between bat & ball - any mediocre batsmen can score runs. Reason being, flat placid wickets across the globe, power play rules in ODI's and lack of quality bowlers. Standard will still decline if proper sporting wickets are not made, making this wonderful game look very ordinary.

even a cricketer who doesn't make it to the national team is better off than a national level athlete

We are Strong but our opponents are weaker
by jakkamma on Apr 15, 2011 12:05 PM

Indian Team is certainly stronger in Batting... no other country can even compete with us... but the fact is now other teams are not strong as before..

Indian World Cup Team 2003 is also equally stronger what we are now.. but even stronger Australians beaten comfortably.
1. Australia - After Gilchrist, Hayden, McGrath retire the team is not the same as before...
2. Pakistan - Bundled with controversies.. they played beyond expectation but not lethal as before..
3. SriLanka - Batting depends mainly on big 3 - Sanga, Dishan and Jayawardena, bowling has many weak links.

India is a huge country with more than a billion population. If these 15 criketers peaked out there hundreds of cricketers waiting on the wings to take off. India has got a very bright future in criket in the years to come

An unreasonably pessimistic article
by tattoo on Apr 15, 2011 11:52 AM

I think we should savour the moment as long as it lasts. A World Cup comes once in 4 years. India has now won it for the 2nd time which no other country except Australia and WI have done. SA and England can only dream of winning it, with the former having some realistic chance. But it\'s not easy and it needs a lot of luck. India has been the No. 1 Test team for a couple of years now and that\'s a huge achievement. And for the next 2 years at least, they look set to be there at the top. And who knows we might actually unearth a couple of quality pacers or might even see a renaissance of Ishant Sharma (he seems to have got back his pace and venom, at least from the little I have seen him in IPL 2011 thus far)...so let\'s sit back and enjoy the Indian Victory march as long as it lasts. In any case, even if they lose a few ODI series here and there, it doesn\'t matter...they\'ll have the bragging rights as the Champions for the next 4 years. And even if they don\'t win in 2015 (they have as much chance as SA, Aus or a couple of other big teams, though if not more), then also they will continue to be a top team. What is more significant is that they are going to be the No. 1 team in all likelihood for at least 2 years from now and may be much more than that. In an ironical way, the IPL will also encourage a lot of new talent (including pace bowlers) to come to the fore. So, don\'t worry man...Just sit back and enjoy...

they do it intentionally. See this is how it works. People have habit of criticizing more liberally than praising. So write a irritating article, get criticized, get more clicks, get more money on adds. Because if you write good article fewer people will praise.

@Jess: You are entitled to ur views about Ishant. But I think he has bowled reasonably well...he has bowled with good pace and in right channels, especially against Bangalore. He needs to work harder and be more consistent. But it's nice to see the pace he is generating and the bounce he is extracting from helpful pitches.
