India are yet to win test series in SA, Aussies. Also India is yet to win tests in abroad series consistently. In many ODI's we have lost from winning positions or else Dhoni's win-loss ratio would have been 75-25 instead of 65-35 that it is now.. Sachin is yet to score bigger test hundreds, Laxman & Dravid are yet to score consistently.. Bowlers like Zaheer are yet to take 5-6 wickets per match, Harbhajan has to regain his 8-9 wkts in a match ability and sewhag gambhir have to set 100 runs partnerships consistenly with sewhag's 200-300 scores and Gambhir's 150 scores...
Author says that with the retirement of some players there will be a void. It is only natural that they will retire. India has other good upcoming players - Pujara, Rayudu who can fit in those roles and they need more international exposure. If the 35 players hold their positions like hawks how will the newer generation shine? This is a flaw with your thinking. In a dynamic world everything changes and there will be ups and downs. Ensuring the quality of sports mean keeping it competitive and Indian cricket is highly competitive. Instead of such negativity these sports authors should think about extending cricketing success to other sports. What will happen after 2 years - woh, dekha, jayega, Brazilian football produces great players generation after generation and with the passing of great players other great players emerge. Just keep your sport competitive and nurture new talents. THen you have insured your future.

I could not agree with you more. Sachin, Dravid and Laxman had to retire one day and their vacant position will be filled by youngsters who are already on the side line. It is best for selectors to inject some young blood in the team now rather than wait for Sachin to retire.

Bilkul sahi baat hai, Kuchh karo to galat, mat karo to galat, yeh writer sab ko har cheez mein problem hi nazar aata hai..
The most improtant reason India won the WC is because IPL was AFTER the WC and not before. Otherwise as happened in the previous editions India would have been knocked out much earlier due to exhaustion.

I agree with you, money would have spoiled the chances of winning the WC and now IPL is like ICING IN THE CAKE!
IPL has been instrumental in bringing out new cricketing skills; the money sets the incentive. Should india approach honestly for the next few years there is no reason why they will not maintain. Dhoni's apathy to Ashwin, Chawla or trying to push RP in the past, regionalism, Mumbai dominance in management, unncessary hipe for fresh blood ignoring the greats like Laxman who was seated out on the plea of bad fielding etc. India will have quality spinners in Ashwin and Iqbal and someother to come up. That the country doesn't produce quality fast bowers have to be dealth with reinforcement in other departments.
After the World Cup, IPL is an anti-climax.... soon the cricket craze will die off... too much of a good thing is bad! Overkill, you know?! Once the spectator value goes down sponsors will go elsewhere, hopefully to another sport!

too much speculating! IPL will also pick up from a week after, say.
With IPL etc there will be no shortage of good players in India.. But even if there isnt people wont mind it.. Just like in american football, soccer , basetball etc club games are likely to be more watched as compared to country games. This is because the club teams are more balanced - and hence more interesting - then say country teams like India(no good bowler), Pak Team(no batsmen, poor fielding ),England(no superstars) , Australia(poor spin technique) etc etc.

Agree.....but we still need guidance from quality fast bowling coaches (Venkatesh Prasad may not be the best idea)

Variation will always be the key element.....foreigners are good players of pace....
he should rest assured that our country has abundance of talent for years to come, our WC win is most of all going to ensure that, and ofcourse 20/20 WC win and now ever than before IPL will go a long way in bolstering our talent-pool.Also our captain MS could have been more gracious no doubt but let's give him a break, one gets so overwhelmed in such moments, not many in our history anyways. We do have a history of being too good with guests and opponents and could be accused of over-friendliness,so maybe now our boys are getting into the Aussie mold-act arrogant,no harm, maybe its just mind-games with the vanquished opponent. One does agree that there is no need for lavish gift-showering on the Team, especially free train-rides/plots of land etc.,cash is still ok,we tend to hero-worship and also enjoy being around them no matter how big we get ourselves, therefore the 'netas'not missing there photo oppurtunity with the WORLD-CHAMPIONS.On why the captains are resigning, all we can say is 'its their internal matter',what could one say, their public loves cricket as much too, therefore probably to appease public-sentiment for not winning the Cup. The burning question-Tendulkar says Dhoni is the best captain he's played under...grossly over-rated...he did not even acknowledge Sourav Ganguly's brilliant & valiant captaincy under which they finally shook-up Aussies@their home and took the Team to the final, also Sourav brought the fighting sp

Mumbai, Shastri, Sachin... no one will spend a single word for Sourav. The statement has come particularly to undermine Sourav. Otherwise there was no reason for him to speak favor for Dhoni.India have won the WC because all other countries have been suffering. Srilankans and the Aussies are in transition, Pak faces bans against kea players, England tired and find the atmosphere unsuitable. Sourav's time was hard time, Aussies were at the pick.He faulted on some strategic issues - leaving aside Kumble, unnecessary panicking without thinking Aussies were playing with 4 players.

...finals of 2003WC,lost badly is another story, but Sourav did deserve praise from Tendulkar since in the same phase Sachin himself was proven to be a poor-captain.Also you tend to have a soft-corner for your contempraries, which oddly Sachin has never shown in case of Sourav, they were such a formidable opening pair maybe in this case Sachin falters & shows us he's human afterall.

Sachin plays for himself, for the money and honor cricket gives to him. Praising Dhoni helps him. Using a single good word for Sourav will raise the eyebrow of his father Sarad Pawar.
