A flash back on sachin's career
by Rajan S on Apr 05, 2011 01:36 AM  | Hide replies

WC was the only thing missing from his otherwise illustrious career. Iam really happy for sachin.
Now he can undoubtedly be called the greatest ever in the history of the game. Except in 1999 and 2007 he has performed in all other wc's. Iam not aware of the stats of 1992 wc to comment about it but i know that sachin was just a 19 year old that time, to carry the expectations of a billion people. In 1999, he lost his father in the middle of the tournament and in 2007, india didnt last long unfortunately, for him to show his real class.
Out of the three times he performed incl this wc, India has reached semifinal and final once each and won the trophy this time. So that shows how much his performance matters to the team. This time also, whatever we say about luck etc, his innings of 85 and 53 against pakistan and australia was crucial in our wins.
Apart from reaching semifinals, finals and also being part of this wc winning squad, he was part of the test teams which registered series victories in england, pakistan, west indies and newzealand. He was also a crucial member of the squad that drew the test series in australia, south africa and sri lanka. Sachin was also a member of the saurav led side which won the champions trophy, earlier known as the mini world cup. And we all know his batting records which has already become unbreakable for his peers.
If this is not an illustrious career, then what else is?

@tendusach: I do not blame you..you are among those people who wouldnt remember their father's contribution in their life becuase they didnt contributed when you aksed for it. You were unhappy about your father because he didnt buy you expensive nike shoes like your friends for morning run...though he made you stand on your feet and teach you how to walk before you can even run. You are appreciative about your friends becuase they give you lift to the college in their cars, but you forgot that your father walked along with you to the school. You want to be along with your friends who pay for your cigrate and drinks and are in awe of them, but you dont remember that your father slogged his whole life to meet your ends. You are among those people...And therefore i have sympathy..not for you, but towards you father..becuase no matter what he did for you..you would still be an unappreciative as@hole

No matter how many award and trophies are given to sachin yuvraj and dhoni, for me ponting is the man of the tournament and real champion.

had he not been such a destructive force for australian cricket, india could not have won world cup so easily. hats off to the real master, our agent down under

People who meausre a captain from his batting or keeping skill and not captainship are the folks spreading venom against a newly born icon..For me if Sachin has praised some one than that the end of the chapter for me..As it came from Gods mouth..

Good job selectors, get some new fast bowlers..stop region wise selection..go by merit then regional quota, we will get many zaheer's in the smaller cities and towns..Special thanks to Hirwani, one of the selectors who gave useful tips to YUVI on his bowling..

yes, right now whatever praises we bestow on dhoni is less actually. dhoni is a real indian hero. bollywood should make a movie on dhoni, after all plenty of them were present at wankhede.

Very well said. Some people keep on finding faults in everything he says. Excuses or whatever they call it. In india batting has been the key to determining captaincy skills. As laughable as it is, unfortunately it has been the truth. A big majority of hardcore fans of sachin suffer from it.

We should thank Raina for lifting up the team's morale with his excellent fielding. With him taking the initiative others followed and saved almost 20-25 runs in the finale.. Jai Hind..

Sreesanth will return as a better improved bolwer, only if he listens to his captain and Sachin and controls his behaviour..India need 5-6 real good young fast bowler to dominate cricketing worls like aussies..because batting wise we have been historically best...

Frank Barone
Spirit of India
by Frank Barone on Apr 04, 2011 09:11 PM

The best thing about this victory was that it was total team effort. In the quarters against Australia, it was Yuvraj and Raina who took the team to victory. In the semis versus Pakistan, it was the bowlers who helped India defend a modest total. And in the final against Sri Lanka, it was Gambhir and Dhoni who played match-winning innings. Almost all the players stood up to be counted.

The Indian team was like one family, with one vision and one mission - the triumph of the spirit of India.
