According to my knowledge, When Ganguly was captain between india and Aus., sereises became serious, sparkling and tempting!! We can believe it started when Ganguly said India only can beat Australia in Indian soil and in Aus., soil. It became true also. so Since 2001 till today, mostly Indian team dominated the Aus., team. Thanks to Ganguly, Laxman, Sehwag,Sachin,Dravid, John wright and Kirsten.!!!

Ashes when it started was a match between the top two teams...so became very important..Now that importance is for Aus-India match...for they are the top two teams....if yu see the Game alone...
If yu look at Politics..India-Pak match is more serious...like a war
But for the civilizational greatness..(Pak too belong to Indian civilisation) both the teams play respectful of the game....

make something out of nothing. The interest in so-called 'fierce' India-Australia rivalry is just because of a series which was marred by racial slurr involving players from both the sides. The intensity - if there is any - is due to reasons other than cricket including the so-called racial attacks on Indians in Australia.
The main aspect of Ashes is the element of history involved in it along with the fierce competition between two teams which had some really wonderful talents and personalities.
If the Border-Gavsakar trophy has to assume any significance enough to compare itself with the Ashes, I guess the present Indian team should be playing for another 15-20 years, especially Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh.

I second that. Ravi Shastri is the commentator who kept on asking the foolish question about Border-Gavaskar trophy becoming 'bigger' than the Ashes.

India Australia rivalry is biggger than Ashes

It is thre best and Ashes is of no consequence as per as Indians are concerned.Any Indian who thinks that Ashes is bigger has a colonial mindset.

You are the kind of person who believes moon is closer than China, because you can see moon from your home but not China.

If you choose not to look at a bigger picture, better be off such message boards.

FYI, the comparison is between 'Ashes/Border-Gavaskar' series not 'Ashes/Border-Gavaskar in Indian perspective'

Ashes is rated higher for both England and Australia as there are emotions and sentiments attached to it. There is not prize for sentiments and emotions.
Undoubtly Aussie was the best team playing test cricket till some time ago, and when Indians rub it hard ways it is real fun for Indian crowd/fan. Ashes may be too high on compition list for Aussies and Pomies, but they are aware that India is emerging as super team in tests and is the ulimatly challange.
You may keep the compition going on the name of history and sentiments, but tougher compitition is always challange you, threat you and make you do better.

Ashes - unbeaten
by rahul tiwari on Oct 16, 2010 11:02 PM

India vs Australia series can not be matched with years old Ashes trofee since 1982.The only series could have added the same spices is India vs Pakistan series. However India and Pakista could never have regular series. India and Australia series has got great attention for last few years as Australi being world champion tried concquoring india which eventally happened in 2004 where as indian batting line gave nightmare to Aussie bowlers at times. The contorversy - monkey gate, the championship innings of Laxman, Sachin, Dravid , Ponting or hyden displayed at true moment of glory which border or bradman could achive. Kumble, bhajji, zaheer vs mcgrath, warner and lee brought up and downs. It has been awesome but it will take lots of time to declare it as big as Ashes.

oh yes... that was truly best series I ve watched..
I think since last 6-7 years India won so many test matches against Aussies, people started comparing Ashes with Ind-Aus series....
India has more quality n aggressive as well as attractive(in terms of their style) players than England, that may be the reason the whole world is curious abt Ind-Aus series...

Agreed..Flintof and Warne were at their best in that series!
Warne with 40 wickets and some 200 vital runs were as amazing as Flintof's 24 wickets and 400 runs!
Both were great and were rewarded MOS!
