Dhoni is a good strategist but needs to score more runs.
by amarnadh on Oct 13, 2010 08:30 PM  | Hide replies

His captaincy is certailnly helping india, but it is time he starts contributing more with the bat. throughtout the series there hasnt been much he has done in terms of scoring runs, even behind the stumps he was ordinary, a lot of chnaces have been grassed. The advantavge he has is that he is a keeper as well, else there already would have been discussions about his form in test match cricket.

So the 2 matches where he scores less can be used to judge him in general ?. Well lets pick couple of sachins matches where he flopped and do the same ?. Dhoni plays with the tail. When sachin left and zaheer and bhajji followed, who else was left ?. Kind of funny that people refer to it as a collapse after sachin left. Of coz what did you expect from the tail ? If dhoni had an issue with batting, that should have been visible when sachin was there with him.

Man we have changes s may aptains in past, after thatteam stated loing and captain din't perform either but this time our tam is winning and my fellow indians are not happy...It is ridiculous..You tell what you contributed to this country so far except criticizing othere and that tooo when they are winning....The only reason I can think for this criticism is regional bias and nothing else....so Jaago India Jagoooo

Congratulations Dhoni and tam.

@Rishu gupta: grow up over regionalism, anything and everything should not be linked to regionalism. Learn first to take things in the right perspective.

Dhoni averages higher is ODI than in tests, that itself is a testimonial of how he has not hit his full pottential in tests. He has rescued the Indian batting more often in ODIs than he has done in the tests. For the long period he has been the permanant member of the test team there isnt that one test inning which defines him.

ICC no 1 test ranking defines that and Indian acheived it under his esteemed leadership for the first time in indian cricket history, with players like FAB three(even FAB 4) present in team in past toooooo....thats it and even ICC appointed him captain of world test XI team Point to be noted not WOrld ODI XI.... Don't like to proove my point any further...Thats it.. FULL STOP. I am not able to find any reason to criticize dhoni even after succesive wins that why i can think oly of regional bias because this is the second thing after corruption that pushes India backkkk each and every time

varun, rishu gupta, your recent posts makes me think that you are wondering why dhoni is being criticised constantly and you have not yet been able to figure out the reason i will tell you why he is hated. i have actually posted the reason 2-3 times in the past. perhaps you missed it.

for the past two decades it is sachin mania which has hit india big time. after his initial exploits with the 664 runs partnership with kambli from his school days he has caputred the imagination of the indian cricket fans and fired their expectations. in his debut series against pakistan his hitting qadir for successive sixers and making good score after being hit by a waqar younis delivery on his face made him darling of the indian cricket fan. later he started to open the odi innings and tasted immediate success and that has been going on for so many years. in both tests and odi he is making records after records. soon he took the place of gavaskar who was similarly idolised like sachin is today. but gavaskar only was successful in test cricket and not as much in odi. sachin did that too. later these blind worshippers created the myth that sachin wins matches ''single-handedly'' for india without any ''contribution from other 10 players''.

varun, rishu gupta, blind and fanatical sachin worshippers had created the image of GOD and they myth that he is india's only hope and one-man army.

everything was going as per their plan till dhoni exploded on the international scene with his explosive batting. blind sachin fans were condescending at first because somebody had arrived with such fire in him. they were ready to welcome him and appreciate him and did so with open arms and open hearts. they thought such innings from him could not last forever but be few and far between and come to an end some time. but later to their consternation dhoni's exploits continued unabated and his outstanding batting efforts coupled with awesome consistency led some people to say that he won the matches for india. this was a rude shock for blind sachin worshippers and all their love and affection vanished. this upstart whom they were kind enough to welcome to the family of indian team was actually trying to steal the credit to india's wins! this was one thing they could not stand. sachin the single-handed winner of all india wins had to share his credit with this unknown guy from god knows where.... this was blasphemy! dhoni continued to play big and bigger innings and stole sachin's thunder from right under sachin's nose! a mere mortal was trying to take place of GOD!!!

Dhoni should be the most luckiest guy on earth. He gets the credit as a captain for all the good work done by other team members. And the best part, he doesnt need to score and he doesnt even have to win the toss these days.

You got it wrong, that was on a lighter vain.. But a small correction on your comment.. A good team makes a good captain.. The best example, Australian team. Ponting was the best captain only till Haydern, Gilly, Warne and Mcgrath retired. And see whats happening now. Atleast Ponting is scoring now also :-)

Thanks for your fresh eyes. But dear, what i am saying is the captain should also contribute. Success is a combination of management, leadership, players, skills etc etc. But, if management and leadership is the only skill required, then Dhoni can very well take Kirsten's place that would allow someone better skilled player to take his place.

I can agree with you in one thing that dhoni may be be a technically very good player but as far as I remember he always gives his 100% and he wont so many matches for us...Yes in this test series He is not able to score many but still he has immensely helped tis team to gel....Which I have never seen before....We shoule have those players in team who relayy get well and give 10%...And dhono is very good in it and he knows how to get the job done with team effort....IPL wins, CLT20, T20 world cup, ICC test rank No1 and ODI no 1 (some time ago) can not be flike..Indian cricked was never that good with same bubch of players....Only difference is leadership and management....Captains matters man, pleaseee try to understand....and at last enjoy this win with whole nation...We are getting good in sports day by day look at CWG toooooo....

Rishu, you are talking BullS#@t. The simple thing is India is winnig OK. But as a player Dhoni is not contributing with the bat. As a captain, his stratergy's are working because he has potential players. Saurav, Azhar also proved they are successful. Please look in to their records as batsmen. Dhoni's primary duty is batsman and captaincy is additional responsibility. Dhoni in team is Wicketkeepr who can bat, not taken in to the team as Captain. If you think he is good as captain thats good. But what about his primary role in the team for which he is selected.

Just imagine why Australian media is cribbing on Ponting, for his poor batting form and also captaincy. He can't do much with the bowlers like Hauritz and George.

Srikanth, I can bet if Dhoni would have led this so called depleted (Which is not in reality) Australian team against This Strong Indian team led by Ricky ponting....Australian Side led by Dhoni would have won....Please try to think in that way..It may look funny but think honestly what I said....In CLT20 and IPL 2010 Dhoni get bollnger and he utilised him so well...Its about utilizing your resources...India has best resourced in world, whole world know it but to incapable leadership our loving country s lagging....plase try to understand....Americansand eurpoeans are nowhere near us in any field but yes they excel and leadership and unity....Leadership with right decisions is very important....All top notch copanies pay hugeee amount to management graduates from IIM fo some reasonnnnnn..

abs corect. pujara is a player to rely on in the crisis situatios. n he did show glimpse of his batng while scoring in 4th inning n 5th days' pitch n under pressure situatio n coming down at no 3, denying ausis any chance of another breakthrough. pujara is much better player than others in technique, temperament n attitude to play test matches.
