In India no team wins the toss in a test and bowls. I don't remember when it happened last time.

actually I thought you said win the toss and bat. I don't think team winning the toss will bowl.

hi sports lover, are you going to bother to reply to my post? you said you would do that after the 5th days play?
He plays well only in domestic matches or club level T20 matches. Look at how he played against India Blue when playing for India Red. Scored 30 ball 63 with 5 fours and 5 sixes.

I think he is fit for T20. Should open with Sehwag.. Gambhir should be only for tests and ODIs. Imagine,Sehwag and Y.Patahn click, jisko, laga, dala,to,life, jinga,lala..
Can somebody tell Ponting that it is the umpires who decided on whether a player requires a sub runner or not? Even with a pre-existing injury, the player can claim a hamstring pull and request for a runner...
Re: It is the umpires, Stupid!

I am not sure but think opposition team captain has to agree as well. Because I have seen captains deny a batsman a runner.

Yes,opposition captain has to agree. We can play somebody carrying an injury and hope he will bat with runner..if that's the case the rule will be misused.

I thing only in the case of the umpires not sure and ask the Opposition Captain but the Umpires call is the Final as per rule.
It's like the umpires ask the Opposition captain that as per rule he is not avail a runner but sportingly u are willing to give a runner.
Re: Re: Re: It is the umpires, Stupid!

Yes rules say that opposition captain has NO say and it is only umpires who decide it.
But read this:
England's ultimately comfortable passage to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy was marred by a moment of controversy towards the end of the night at Centurion, when Andrew Strauss refused Graeme Smith a runner. Smith, who batted 216 minutes in all after having spent a session in the field, was clearly unhappy when AB de Villiers was asked to head back to the pavilion, and Mickey Arthur, the South African coach, was seen swearing in frustration. Smith was dismissed soon after for 141, and South Africa eventually fell 12 runs short of the 313 that would have given them a mathematical chance of survival in the competition.

Sporty, It was not exactly happened. It was the umpire who decided not to give a Runner and A Strauss is Agreed with umpires. That was later on clearly explained by Strauss.

More info:
"I didn't feel he merited having a runner at that stage," said Strauss. My personal view is you shouldn't get a runner for cramps full stop."
"He asked me for a runner because he was cramping, the umpires were not particularly keen to give him one, and I felt at the end of a long game when you have had a long innings you are going to be tired," added Strauss. "That is one of the things that happens and cramping to a certain extent is a preparation thing and to a certain extent a conditioning thing."
