If u had seen SMG playing, u will surely agree he was a far more technically competent batsman than SRT. SMG retired and we are still growing as a cricketing nation.. let's not be a race course horse.

Another Dhoni lover, I guess. Only thing that I was complaining abt ppl keeping their jobs without performing...! EVERYONE shld contribute. Look at Ishant Sharma's technique in both the innings... and look at the captain!
I am not wanting India to be a race course. I want India to be No 1 and the whole world accepting it... When India is No 1 whole world is criticizing the ranking system, which is true..!!
Indians are so complacent and so used to keeping their post just like that... no quest for improvement. and the media can make Gods out of anyone..!! Its a shame to see a "make shift" keeper in a 5 day game!
You watched cricket from the 70s itself right, ever seen a technically not sound player in Indian test team???

Again,if u read my message, it's U I am branding as a race course horse and not India. This is again proved when u say I am a Dhoni lover.. I was just trying to tell u that b4 Sachin many other gretas had retired and new guys have come in..let's grow up and have a wider perspective man.

cricketfan NG is not a sachin lover or dhoni hater he is as passionate about cricket as we both are. No one else would be up at around 3:00 AM in the morning to watch a test match.

I do appreciate.I am just saying if we have got replacements for past greats, we will surely get for the current ones...it's just that they need to play for some time.

True sirji, but lets not talk about replacements at the moment. Just try to enjoy this Indian victory :-)

wow!! someone reported my 'abusive' message.. I am guessing its not you, cricketfan, cos you are mature!

No way NG. None of us would be doing that. I know cricketfan and he is truly a cricket fan
so this classifies, laxman as best batsman , more humble passionte , devoted , sory to inform u all a sachin 's bad doing ( yes in interview , vinod kambli said , he was mishandled by bcci n sachin his best friend also , when competin views clashed and sachin asked kambli to run naked 100 meters which he did , n so kambli mind diverted .)
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: cricketfan

no no.. I was studying in Jalandhar NIT from 74 - 78.. he he.. thats why! :-p
Again,I accept he is good and great stats. But, after 20 years, the way he got out today and also in both the innings of the recent SL series chasing wide balls, that's where the disappointment stems from. Have never seen SMG doing that...it's a thin line which demarcates the "very good" and "outstanding" rating given
But to me sachin never took India through to victory in test matches barring one recent test match vs England where he scored 100 and remained unbeaten. But then again Yuvi was ther along with him and it was a comfortable win.
And then think about laxman he has helped India win from hopeless situations like this on more then 3-4 occasions.
If you can remind me of any instance when sachin has taken India to victory like laxman has done please let me know.
It really doesn't mean that I hate Tendulkar. In fact I have seen him make his debut and followed his cricket all these years and I really love his batting.
Re: I don't really worry if people don't agree with me
by Nostradamus Great on Oct 06, 2010 12:10 AM
As much as he is the most prolific batsman the the recent past, he has never risen to the level of a true match winner..! Blame it on the pressure, blame it on luck or blame it on anything.. but this is a fact!!
He disappointed India so many times when the whole nation pinned hope on them. May be its cos the opposition knew the importance of his wicket and do everything to get that and the team crumbles around that.. or may be he is not having that in him to perform when it matters..
He is a great batsman and if he was in any other country he would have got more respect that what he is getting here.. These days he is only getting hatred no matter what he does...!!
In the first innings he scored 98 important runs, had 2 crucial partnership...!! And still ppl started cursing him when he got out in second innings...!! Did anyone say anything abt Dhoni and others?? NO!! Is it cos they did not expect anything from anyone else..??

Absolutely NG. That is why I am saying your views are so similar to mine and LG. We were discussing the exact same thing this afternoon.
Sehwag - If he fails people say that is the way he plays.
Dhoni - No one really expects him to play well and win it for india.
Tendulkar - Everyone expects him to perform and if he fails whole nation is after him. And to some extent that is the case with Dravid too. People expect dravid to perform as well.
Now problem is with us people not with Tendulkar. I hope people should just try to imagine if they were in place of Sachin what would they fking do?
Re: I don't really worry if people don't agree with me
by cricketfan on Oct 06, 2010 12:08 AM
Due to whatever reasons, Sachin has failed to perform and take India to victory..not trying to demean his achievements..he is probably not destined to do that.
Re: Re: I don't really worry if people don't agree with me
by Sports Lover on Oct 06, 2010 12:09 AM
Absolutely, I just love his batting man how can anyone survive for 20 long years and still perform. No ordinary person can.
I dont want to wish for India to lose for Dhoni to understanding his place in the side. I want India to win all the matches... But, I want the selectors and commentators and fans to take it a couple of notch below and look at Dhoni's performance before writing songs in praise of him! He was pathetic as a keeper and a waste in batting...! Ishanth Sharma had a better plan and technique to save his wicket and time...!!
Its a shame that people are still crediting these kinds of victories to the "great captain". And when it comes from Test Greats like Gavaskar, the whole thing becomes too much to take..!!
Test cricket is abt Technique and temperament.. And to have a mediocre keeper keep his place cos he is the captain, reflects the condition of the No 1 test nation in the world!
Re: Dhoni..
by Sports Lover on Oct 05, 2010 11:51 PM
NG I agree with you. Your views are so similar to LG (e.g. mediocre dhobi). Even I didn't like the way dhoni kept in this match. So may drop catches etc. I don't think he has technique to survive in test cricket against quality fast bowling.
But still I want give him chance to play another 3-4 test matches to see if he can improve. If not then India will need another specialist wicketkeeper like parthiv and someone else like sehwag needs to captain Indian team.

by max skinner on Oct 05, 2010 11:49 PM
True but unfortunately history is always written by victors.
Mediocre performance and skills get hidden when there is victory but should there be a defeat, it gets the limelight.
The match shouldn't have been this close at all, no one in top order contributed much even if the batting line up is boasted as the best in the world but yet this test match would be hailed by media as one of the best matches, exciting etc etc.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Dhoni..
by Sports Lover on Oct 05, 2010 11:58 PM
In my view it is not about winning and losing it is about the excitement it provides. And this match was 10 on 10 in terms of excitement. It is really a game.
Re: Re: Dhoni..
by Nostradamus Great on Oct 06, 2010 12:00 AM
Max skinner, if victory is the only thing thats important and as long as we win the system is going to be like this, I want India to lose the test matches from now on and go down to no 5 in test..
Then probably ppl will realize the importance of EVERYONE Contributing and playing..
That day will come starting next year when the Fab three will retire...!!

a senior player playing that kind of a shot today in a crisis?ball is close to the body and he attempts a square cut?

by Nostradamus Great on Oct 06, 2010 12:13 AM
ha ha ha there you go. He got out like Dravid. And he is to be blamed "for putting team under pressure"? Then why do u have the so called captain and some others? They all came in hoping that they dont have to play?
Re: Re: Re: Dhoni..

and yes, even Sachin had an extended bad patch during Ganguly's captaincy, and probably,Ganguly had given a name to Sachin as "tourist"

Probably,u would have been a toddler when that epic final of about 6to7 hours was played between McEnroe and Borg was played in late 1970s.
