I just wanted to know why there is lot of messages against Vijay. He is not a regular member in the team, boco’z of best openers we have now (Gambir and Shewag), but whenever a chance given he played very well and scored at least 40 in most of the matches he played and he and shewag have very good partnership record.
Gavaskar and every cricket experts have acknowledged Vijay has perfect footwork and his technique. When he hits the ball, the sound form the bat is so delightful to hear.
Shewag in one of his interview has said that “Vijay has wonderful technique and he is best find (as specialist opener) and has and has very good prospect.
I did see the highlights of the Irani trophy and what I observed in Mukund innings is most of the runs he got is behind the wickets just cutting, edging and steering, but I feel in the quality fast attack he is just going to edge to keeper or 1 or 2 slip. Until a player plays a quality front drive with full face of the bat, I cannot accept them in the Test Team.
Mukund, has been a consistent performer in domestic first-class matches since his debut in late 2007.
He has nine centuries in 29 matches, and an average of 55.88.
His career highlights include an unbeaten triple-century against Maharashtra in 2008 and a 257 against Hyderabad last season.
That triple Century only He had a Record partnership with M vijay who also scored a Double century but they fell short of just 2 runs for the Opening Stand. I think that stand was something around 464. But M Vijay got the maiden Call to Indian Team and had a good debut against Aussies
I believe in Tests The Openers always Specialists. This Openers may can bat down the Order but a Middle order batsman can't open in Tests that easily exception only Sehwag and Watson so far.
I remember once Laxman was saying he was sent as Opening batsman and unable to succeed and then dropped from the team and again he got a call from Selectors to Open but he denied and Waited for his chance and he got the chance in middle order after a successful county stint and then The Kolkata epic happened.
So If u want C Pujara to open and he failed means he will be write off permanently.
Earlier Players get many chances now a days after 3 or 4 failure they will be termed as failure and the competition is more now

I think He is not going to be selected to play any Tests untill 2011 WC, since the Selectors says he was very much in the plan of 2011 WC and they want him in his prime form around February so they are not going to ruin him in Tests where he fail some time and lose his confidence and I feel he is not fully Fit yet

I don't think Pujara will get a chance ahead of Specilist Opener M Vijay since he was his IPL teammate as well and he did well in CL as well finishing as Tournament top scorer thus earning the confidence of Dhoni and He have previous Test Exp as well and he played against Aussies as well.
But Happy to see Selectors retaining Pujara and not rushing back to Yuvi after his Double Don. I think only if Laxman is unfit then Pujara will get a chance while Sree will play unless he injury himself while dance practice

U said earlier that mukund is lil bit slow..but If u see his SR in ListA that is same as sachin..interesting
Re: Re: Re: senthil
by Senthil on Oct 06, 2010 12:08 PM
But when he play in Tests he is very slow, I have not seen him playing in List A matches much apart from Last year challenger trophy were he scored a century may becoz he always open with M Vijay he seems to be Slow in Tests

But I wonder how this Kid, have a Excellent Avg of 55 in List A is simple amazing considering he have 85 SR

ohhh that is not good if look the debut of sachin at the same age of 17..so sad for mukund..Its seems that now chances of gauti going less n less day by day due to his injuries and underperformance in test...but he stills have 53 of Avg in test...

We will see, For the truth When M vijay called for to replace Gauti in 2008, becoz of the record Partnership with A Mukund who scored a Triple Century in that partnership but that time he just making his First FC Season and he is just 17 yrs old. So the chance went to M Vijay

lol for sreeshant comment..but seriously vijay has impressive season in last IPL and CL but bro this test match ..I think If pujara is not getting selected then my choice goes to Mukund because of his Age and Avg in domestic world...and underage always have more enthu than others...fairly mukund need one chance to prove his best
Re: Re: Re: senthil
by Senthil on Oct 06, 2010 12:07 PM
yeah, Even I would go for A Mukund only as test Opener since C Pujara is a middle order batsman but M Vijay always done well while Opening with V Sehwag in tests and they have Some 80 Plus Avg for the opening Stand which is good for them. When M Vijay debut against Aussies 2 years back he done well with Sehwag scoring 38 and 41 and I hope He will do better then this since MS Dhoni anyway going to play M Vijay only.
I knew very well about Dhoni, He won't give chances to any youngster until he left with no option.

seems like that..but very sad....this is not good strategy dont assume any players replacement with appropriate one..I mean if openers are injured then dont think that it can replace by any specialize opener only...if like this then players like Mukund need to wait for a life time to perform.

my point is that If you see veeru's debut matches he started his career with tail ender same as sachin...now look where r they..sorry I just talked about ODI but my view is same
I could not understand why North and West people are behind Srikanth selection. There were times 9 cricketers were representing from Mumbai from India. Let us look selection of Abhinav he is doing consistently well in Domestic Circuit and List A Circuit. Please do not paint Mr. Srikanth as he is from TN. From Delhi 3 players are representing for India From Mumbai 2 players. People who did well in domestic circuit will get easily selected. I would also like to know from the writers how may second innings of Sachin in Test Cricket that has sailed India to Win? Can you please provide me a data?

Yeah, He have a Triple Century as well along with 257 runs, scored well in Eng and Aussies as well for India A team as opener. He is slow but good Batsman and 9 FC Centuries in 30 odd matches not bad at all.
But anyway he and Jaidev will get a feel of Indian Dressing room only not going to play

I think this type of Impressive stats nobody having in indian cricket history in domestic level...hoping for mukund to perform well more than his domestic career once he get the chance
Re: Re: Re: A Mukund
by Senthil on Oct 06, 2010 11:53 AM
yeah sure, he might not play in the Second test as M Vijay will get a chance due to CL form and his previous Test Exp and Have the Faith of Dhoni. But Good to See Mukund and Unakat are in the Selectors radar.
Re: Re: A Mukund
by Chirag P on Oct 06, 2010 11:46 AM
but India's fortune is not that much lucky...70% of domestic very sound batsmen would not able to score in international level..very sad
Re: Re: Re: A Mukund
by Senthil on Oct 06, 2010 11:51 AM
But the fact is without perform well in Domestic they don't get a chance in International Level. Give them a run and find them
May be all forgotten, How VVS Laxman made his debut and never a Permanent Member before Kolkata 2001 epic. He made debut in 1996 and played 20 Matches and Avged only 27. How mediocre that stats. Now we are all just jumping the gun after 3 or 4 failure
Re: Re: Re: Re: A Mukund

ohh yaa..I remember if Im not wrong that epic remains the record in indian history for few years veeru has broken in multan.

yes, Look at after 20 Tests Avg 27 at present, he would be Write off after 10 tests itself.
I feel all the Youngsters should given a Long run to prove their worth before write off them
