Shilpa Vs Preity
by KKing on Mar 25, 2010 03:30 AM  | Hide replies

Good to see Shilpas team kick Preitys team. She could not beat Preity in acting career but atleast her team is now doing better than Preitys team.

I don't agree. I believe Shilpa has better fan following than Preity. She won Big brother and earned a name as a fitness icon. As much as her acting career is concerned, she has numerous remarkable performances like DHADKAN, BADHAI HO BADHAI, RISHTEY, DUS and few more that I can't recall at this moment.

Shilpa has been around since 2 decades now. She has worked hard. Most of her co heroines finished acting in last decade only. She may not have been very successful in acting (never worked with big filmmakers) but she has many fans. i m happy to see her team winning in IPL.

Indian Match Winners?
by Gorango Thakurta on Mar 25, 2010 03:05 AM  | Hide replies

I visit this forum from time to time hoping for a good talk about cricket, and expecting insights, data and humor. But most times the racist and politically incorrect filth that inhabit this place turn me off. It is good to see that there still are some nice posters like Injun Abhi, Ganessin Virappin, KillerKempt, Medulla Oblangta, Lotiya Pathan, Forrest Gump around. I ask you guys this. I have been impressed by some of the young players, and it looks like each team has a couple of potential match winners, as shown below. Except KKR – I really do not see an Indian match winner there. Whats the mystery?

CSK: Dhoni, Suresh Raina,
DC: Rohit Sharma, Pragyan Ojha
DD: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Karthik
KKR: ???
KXP: Yuvraj Singh, Manvinder Bisla, Shalabh Srivastava
MI: Shikar Dhawan, Abhishek Nayar, Ambati Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwary
RCB: Manish Pandey, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa
RR: Naman Ojha, Faiz Fazal, Jhunjhunwala, Yusuf Pathan

It is not that KKR does not have match winners. It's only that the match winners didnt fire. Tell me if any of these names in themselves are in any way inferior to the ones in your list - Gayle, Ganguly, Oais Shah and Mathews. Tiwari was a flash in the pan and didnt fire after KKR's second match. McCullum has not joined yet. Two people need to fire on a given day and the results will show differently.

Thanks for praising us Gorango. You missed many from KKR. Manoj Tiwary for sure. Other names would be Chateshwar Pujara (yet to make a mark), Chirag Pathak (yet to debut), Laxmi Shukla a utility all rounder, Murli Kartik, Iqbal Abdullah and last but not least Ajit Agarkar if he could play to his potential. He had a big role to play in this year's Mumbai triumph in Ranji trophy.

Well... I wonder if any of these you name can blast away like I saw Bisla today. I do not hav any regional affiliation... because I left India 2 decades back, and even when I was there, I lived and worked in all regions, and still have friends from all cities. So, more than who wins, it just makes the game interesting. And it is boring to have one team that everyone beats up on.

Agree with Satramdas. KKR is just one win away from getting back on track. 155 was not good enough against MI because that day Tendulkar played just too well but the total was not totally uncompetitive. If Gayle plays another good match and there are at least who support him, KKR should be doing fantastic! Looking fwd to that. One match, just one match and things will be different.

@Goranga, thanks for your comments. I think a part of the problem is that Bengal players like Manoj Tiwary are getting stressed mentally while playing for KKR. They have to fight that. Look at how other Bengal players like Jhunjhunwala and Goswami (not so much) are playing for the othe IPL teams. What separates the men from the boys is the ability to take pressure but Tiwary has not been able to do that so far.

Ajit Agarkar should come back
by Forrest Gump on Mar 25, 2010 02:14 AM  | Hide replies

I know he is injured but he should be played as a bowler for KKR next match and used as a pinch hitter too at No.3 like how Bisla was used today...for godz sake kick out Ishant Sharma for ever.

Ishant should certainly be removed but not sure if Agarkar is a good choice. Not without sufficient match practice.

Re: Ajit Agarkar should come back

You are right, Dada is struggling with his own form, getting runs but not with relevant strike rate. On the other hand Ishant is acting as chewing gum stuck with his hands. If Agarkar is not fit then atleast someone should replace him. Even KKR playing with 10 players would perform better. Had Dada started with Bond instead of Ishant and grabbed Sachin early, match result could have been different.

I am finding really hard to understand how it can be as big as EPL. EPL is possible because national teams don't do much other than in big tournaments. So for EPL, they have a whole year to play. In cricket, national teams are playing all year round. IPL fits in a very small time frame. if it is to be as big as EPL, more countries should get involved (this is quite likely since cricket is allowed in olympics). But I don't know how they are going to conduct it. One thing is that all the other countries who have no national teams and play only T20 can play in a tournament like this that stretches all year.

Shane Warne's captaincy
by Injun Abhi on Mar 25, 2010 01:38 AM  | Hide replies

Some poeple have been praising Shane Warne for his captaincy today. I feel that every captain is as good as his team that day. Even when KKR won the first 2 matches inspite of low totals, the media and fans were falling at Ganguly's feet praising his field placings and supreme captaincy. Today the same media and fans want Ganguly's blood. So Ganguly has not changed, nor has Warne, it just shows the immaturity of Indian fans and media who idolize their heroes one day and kick them the next day.

Tactics play a very important role. There is a difference between giving ball to your bowler and hoping he'll get a wicket and planning out exactly how to get a batsman out. Also remember Warne is coach of the team also, its his job to make sure that his team plays good. You can't just sit and say, team didn't play well so lost.

I am not taking anybody's side Sachin. I just used Ganguly as an example just because I have been reading the newspapers closely after KKR's first 2 wins and know how the media idolized his captaincy after those wins. You could replace his name with any other. I think you didnt get my point, so no point arguing with you.

Not like that, all that matters is that everyone should pay attention to genuine credentials and decide based that and not based on sudden influence. Like yesterday people were screaming all round that bring Utthappa back in Indian team and today there are voices of throwing Yuvraj out of Indian team. This is all ridiculous. Now I think you are one of the Ganguly haters and biased against him.
