A team from North East would have been great. Instead you go with your state. Already there are teams from mumbai and rajastan .. you still want a team from ahmedabad..

2 teams from west
1 from east
3 from south
2 from north

0 from North East???

Deepak,
NE needs to be properly integrated culturally with rest of India and my friend unfortunately we Indians are so narrow minded that we need to have an external binding factor.

Owning a IPL team...bad business proposition
by Speaking Tree on Mar 05, 2010 06:29 PM  | Hide replies

Purchasing teams at arouns Rs. 1200 crore is just a huge loss making proposition....These franchises are for the period of 10 years...after that owner can be changed.... Owners don't own any stadium.....not to mention they are at max earning around 20 crore in profit which is not even 3 % of their investment...these franchise could have get better return elswhere
Also the potential for growth in future profit are not high.....BCCI has already done deal for TV rights, having max share for itself( main revenue)..only BCCI will profit from this venture

Dear Speaking Tree and all my Naive Countrpeople,

IPL teams are owned by people who have weakened and plundered India, they have lot of political and mafia backing.

Their real money is in betting, not in ad revenues nor gate receipts.

They run their main business house at margins varying from 100-5000% margin and here you are making sense of 3%.

not really, i had an opportunity to talk to someone who is part of Reliance and is involved with the promotions of Mumbai Indians.... his take on IPL is too good. He said "it would have taken us 3 years to create these opportunities of exposure for our brands, now we create any event out of IPL platform and we get amazing media exposure without doing too much"
in short if you have a pan india presence IPL is a great platform, what do u think otherwise Vijay mallya is doing with F1... its more to do with brandbuiding... of courrse he'll earn out of it soon

a Team from North Eastern Part of India
by Tridip Goswami on Mar 05, 2010 06:28 PM  | Hide replies

We hope there will be a team from NE India as there are abundant talent available in that part, who years and years after are being neglected by BCCI and as a result they prefer going to UK for small counties or teams in Singapore, Bangladesh etc. Hope Modi will come up with a new idea.

Re: WHY NOT HOCKEY IPL
by Antistupidity on Mar 05, 2010 06:20 PM
we can never again regain top levels in hockey. the game changed long ago to suit the strengths of the westerners. it became all about power, technology (astroturf, etc) and more importantly, the people making the rules and judgement were no longer indians but westerners. so naturally they schemed to make the game more suited to their style of physical power, strength and stamina and reduce the role of skill and artistry that india and pakistan are more strong in.

so now, like in any other olympic sport, it is the stronger, taller, more physical, faster european / american players who will do better in hockey, not indians or pakis.

so lalit modi cannot do anything. someone like modi should have come in long time ago when the administration of the game was slipping out of indian hands.

so hats off to bcci. since they have a stranglehold over the worldwise administration of the cricket, we still have a chance. even if indians are lesser fit (poor fielders / catchers / runners), there is still scope in the game to win by skill and basic talent (like sehwag - no technique - just see the ball and hit).

I tweeted to Mr Modi on the same. He didnt reply. Actually Hockey is more global, played by more number of countries and also have a olympic medal. But the reality is like cricket not all cities have hockey stadium :( and again there will be lack of spectators and media are not interested in covering hockey like this various reasons for its failure ..so sad, its such a nice tactical game needs so much skills, stamina, power but we will loose it
