sachin tendulkar
by rajiv sharma on Aug 02, 2010 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

sachin tendulkar is a gr8 batsmen but his average shld have been more nd in fact i think ricky ponting has done better bcas he has scored runs as a captain nd won so many world cups for australia. In fact sachin tendulkar was never having any pressure bcas he knows he can play cricket as long as he wants bcas he is a god in india so he shld have scored more runs.I think still there are more dan 10 years for him to play cricket nd hopefully he can score d way he is scoring now den he would definately have a very good avg of around 75. long live sachin tendulkar

yeah if sachin was part of aussie team his average would have been 70

You don't understand pressure do you ? Pressure is when you have a billion people looking up to you and you have 10 team mates who are also heavily dependent on you. Pressure is when you know that you getting out = team losing the match.

Yeah , would love to see ricky or anyone in those shoes.

You are a typical dimwit. It sucks we have so many indians like you. Warne OF AUS regards tendy way higher than his own team mate Ponting . One of the reasons given by him was " tendy has had to deal with pressure , like no one else".

You know this is why we indians SUCK. This is why we are the scum and this is why no one respects us.
We don't respect our own people. If a fellow indian does well, we should have been proud to say " hey we don't have the best of facilities, our kind isn't the best athletes, but we have tendy who shines over all you non-indians"

Instead , I get to hear about this garbage. Yeah , doesn't look like 400 years of british rule has taught anyone anything.

Statistics?? Huh????
by vivek on Jul 29, 2010 09:19 AM  | Hide replies

# Suresh Raina's unbeaten knock of 66 on his Test debut was largely instrumental in an unbroken 141-run stand for the fifth wicket with Sachin Tendulkar.

How come the above statement comes under Statistics????

#Tendulkar's run-aggregate is the highest by any batsman against Sri Lanka. He has overtaken Mahela Jayawardene's tally of 1756 (ave.73.16) in 17 Tests.

Does rediff think that Mahela is not a Srilankan???

In the test played against Australia at Delhi in December 1959 Pankaj Roy was out at 99.

Score card read as:
Pankaj Roy c Benaud b Kline 99

I think ur reporter must correct his facts.

Nowadays
by A Singh on Jul 29, 2010 08:32 AM  | Hide replies

Nowadays every team has batsmen who have played 100 plus Test matches and average 55 or thereabout.
How can we say the Sachin is better than all of them, particularly when some of the eg Kallis, have a far better record in times of crisis?
Sachin has not done justice to his talent. With the amount of talent he was born with, he should have been averaging around the 70 mark, and not around 55, where there is a crowd.
It is like some one who was very good at studies, and should have gone on to become an IAS officer, but ended up as a clerk in a bank!

Sachin is great player, there is no doubt about that but look at the other side, he achieved too much as an individual but look at his performance for the country, he is playing from the last twenty yrs, but still no world cup from his side, he was never been a successful captain so he never takes any responsibility for the team apart from one of th great individual batsman and any player must be call legend only after look at his all round performance, atleast look at his record in the success of the country in mega tournaments like world cup.

He averages almost 58 in world cup matches. But cricket is team game, and Indian team was never good enough to win a world cup. They came close in 2003, but Australian team was far better than ours.

Criticism is every one's right. But this is truly blindly criticising. When sachin started playing cricket, he himself not thought of this much records. His average for the current year is 96. How u can simpley tell that he ended up as a clerk in bank. Accept the reality. Be not like others who is throwing every thing for reputed persons and getting publicity. God bless u, open ur eyes....

Re: Re: Nowadays

Bullshit.
Where is the criticism in my post?
If he had averaged around 70, which he should have (and it is acknowledging the fact that he had the wherewithals to actually do it) the debate about the greatest of the era would have ended there and then.
Now, he averages around 55, where there are hordes of others, and there is ample scope of debate about his being better than others.
It is like Rogers Federer's case. By losing time and time again to Nadal, he has left a window open for debate about not just the greatest of all time, but about greatest of the era. If Federer while winning as many titles as he has won, had actually had a positive Head to Head with Nadal, that would have been the end of the debate.
And Sachin has not ended up as a bank clerk. He is not qualified to become one. He has ended up where lots of others, with much less talent have managed to reach.

Now, is this what we call a catch 22 situation?
If you say that Sachin did not have the talent to average 70 plus, you are criticising him, and not me.

i agree with you, he is far better in talent than so many lesser mortals are...but consider the fact Ponting,Kallis,Waugh had better batting partners in their teams like 2-3 people who avg 50 and their bowlers have been so good to instill confidence in them...whereas for other teams including India, apart from sachin and dravid from 2003-2007, no one has been the mainstay...and bowlers the lesser said the better
You may say why bowlers...only when you have good strike bowlers you can get more time to score runs in mataches,as they get the opposition out faster and sooner....ifs and buts...such is life.

imagine playing for 20 years and maintaining the average for such a long period.. also look at the no of centuries in different conditions.. that itself is greatness u fool... whereas ur kallis and pontings are too small in comparison...look at ponting struggling against the moving ball in England or spinners in India... He has never scored in alien conditions like England or India... he has scored heavily in Australia in his home country with adequate support from his fellow umpires and their Board CA

Sehwag became only the third player to be dismissed on 99 in Tests -- the first two were Pakistan's Maqsood Ahmed against India at Lahore [ Images ] in January/February 1955 and New Zealand's [ Images ] John Wright [ Images ] against England [ Images ] at Christchurch in January 1992.
