selection of saha- good luck to the guy
by dinakar srinivasan on Jan 28, 2010 11:17 PM

Dear wriddhi, i am sure you will be in cloud nine, over such news, just my advice i am sure you have abilities, but to put it gently, you have to impress off the field before you are asked to on the field, start as drinks boy ,move up to accesory helper, get to know your mates, keep a good attitude ,dont be too up font other than charming, improve on your marketing skills i:elanguage ,manners, make up,cosider this outing as a vacationweek trip to nagpur,if they put you on the spot and give you a chance to play , no matter what dont give your wicket pad them block them away from stump,or get a ceeky single, give your oppo more chance, you simply cant go wrong, you will be recognised for your brave outing, boy if you score a duck, just dont look back look for a new career. good luck and god bless.

Good team Selection
by Navneeth on Jan 28, 2010 11:15 PM

Kudos to the selectors for selecting the right players for the SA series , but for Dravid, this team looks good . Hope he is back soon. We shouldn't miss Yuvi since he has hardly done much in the domestic circuit in the longer version to deserve a place.Needs to improve his temperament and technique a lot.Badri deserves his place just for being one of the players with highest avg in first class. Pujara is young and will get his chance soon. M Vijay has impressed with his batting whenever he has got a chance so again a good selection.Karthik has failed to grab his opportunities , so deserves to stay out.Others like Kohli , Nayar , Kaif , Rahane and Rohit Sharma need to step up with consistent big knocks atleast for a couple of years to claim a spot. Mithun has been rewarded for his Ranji efforts on flat Indian wickets , will be surprised if he plays but good exposure for him .Worry is that there are only 6 proper batsman apart from the 2 keepers , so if one of them gets injured on the morning of the match ..our combination will change and we may play with 5 bowlers or who knows 2 Keepers 5 batsman !Selectors could have picked one more player just as backup since Laxman and Sachin are also carrying injuries

Is he better than Parthiv and Dinesh and other Wks
by kumar on Jan 28, 2010 11:14 PM  | Hide replies

Don't know who this guy is? Don;t know if he is better than Parthiv, Dinesh and other WKs in terms of Wicket keeping and then batting. If he is better, then his selection can be justified. If not, then I believe this role went to quota category.
Now this is the time to start looking into other batsment who can replace Dravid, Laxman and eventually tendulkar. Since all three can't be replaced at the same time, selectors need to start replacing one by one. May be it's better to replace either Laxman or Dravid immediately. Then make other change after 1 year.

I'll say start with Yuvi. unfortunately we don't have a quality replacement for bhajji otherwise he also needs a G.P.L.

I am amazed u don't know who saha is? Haven't u watched him in IPL? Haevn't u seen him play well in the domestic tournaments? So if a guy from bengal is selected, it is quota and if a guy from south zone is selected, it grt selection? Kartick has been selected time and again and proved useless.

Parthiv
by Govind Raj on Jan 28, 2010 11:05 PM

Parthiv Patel has been in roaring form for almost 2 seasons. But Saha seems to be an "Inspired" Choice. Anyway he is not going to get a chance unless Dhoni again hurts himself.

Saha
by Anew Post on Jan 28, 2010 10:56 PM  | Hide replies

If we compare first class average then there is not much diff between Saha and Dinesh. Dinesh is slightly better than Saha. I have seen Saha much so can't comment on his keeping skills but Dinesh is also not very good behind wicket. Infact batting average of Parthiv Patel is better than both and if he has improved his keeping then he deserve a chance before both of them. No one has expected saha's selection so definitely it's a surprising one. But I guess he is not going to find a place in final 11. Some body needs to carry the baggage doesn't matter whether it's Saha or Dinesh

Had it not been for DHoni being a wicketkeepign captain and being almost irreplaceable , Saha would have been in the scheme of things long back.
He is a more than average utility batsman and a very good keeper unlike KArthik or even Dhoni for that matter

people like parthiv can perform only in domestic cricket. the dont have the guts and balls to face the australians of south africans. we have seen him many times before. useless ass.

We will see how Saha does against Australians and South Africans. If he does well then good for India. Regarding Dhoni he has his own limitations but he has performed well so far particularly with Bat and has a great attitude.

the same regional bias one day gave india saurav ganguly, the one man the whole country's cricket fans should be indebted to or transforming the attitude of the team and the nation and making team india. so why not see if this too proves to be the same. what lobby are you talking of? why did agarkar play infinitely for india inspite of the poorest of performance ? dont u see mumbai lobby? u cant say lobby for selecting someone who has done well.

he has been selected as a replacement for Dhoni in place of Dinesh Karthik for the wicketkeeper batsman position. The less said about Karthik the better , infact he was a good example of lobbying and quota system.
byw look up some of Saha's record in Ranji and other first class tournos this season you will know why he was selected...plus i guess you wouldn't know his superb skills behind the wicket.
Had it not been for Dhoni being a wicketkeeping captain, this guy would have been in the scheme of things some time back already.
ITs almost a fashion to bash Bengalis regardless.

Great Selecteion
by Souvik Banerjee on Jan 28, 2010 10:34 PM  | Hide replies

W.Saha is the best keeper in the country. If you are after a Gilcrist/Dhoni or a Matt Prior then he is not your guy. He is more of a Boucher/Mongia and Healy kind of a character. Brilliant keeper/Batsman and not batsman/keeper you idiots. Parthiv as a keeper, did you guys not see him in IPL2, Karthick is not good enough as he is a typical 3o-40 runs cricketer, and an above average keeper. Have you seen W. Saha's stats on cricinfo-- check him out-- If Mithun after playing one year of first class cricket and 40 wickets can get a nod, if Badrinath can make a comeback after a decent stint, if we are thinking of giving Tyagi a shout why not SAHA. Dont abuse the selectors. They are behind India becoming No.1. Its not all Dhoni guys. Cheeka is the best thing which has happened for a while- its a thank less job and they excel with 85% of the new talent- Saha is the guy who is a big gitter and a great no.6 or 7 and technically a superb keeper-- If you guys have any cricket intelligence or have ever picked up a bat go and check Saha out on the videos in youtube-- his stats for this season are impressive. The selectors just dont pick any player from thin air you -- they follow domestic cricket much more than you and me--

Well said Mr Banerjee. I saw him keep to Shoaib Akhtar and he was quite good. You are not going to get class playesr untill you try them instead of just hanging on to average players like Karthik or Yuvraj.

well i think some idiots are getting too much emotional about saha's selection, expecting it to be a great selection but let me tell them the person who is surprised by his own selection ,himself believes that he is not capable of joning the best team in the world, let me tell the idiot that he is unaware that dhoni is fit and well capable of delivering the goods behind and in front of the wickets and there is no chance for the unfit selection. saha is still well beyond dasgupta, and we need to know it's TEST MATCH not a foot ball match to get over in couple of hours. it is a test of character of great players even. there are better keepers than him in our bench force. well let's not talk about the one who can hardly get a game before a fit dhoni , unless sehwag becomes a captain
