I DNT THINK THIS NEW BOWLING COACH IS GOING TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE .. INSTEAD BCCI SHUD HUNT FOR SOME EXPERIENCED BOWLERS..LIKE ...GLENN MCGRATH,COURTNEY WALSH, WASIM AKRAM...............

Glenn McGrath or Courtney Walsh will not even consider the BCCI's offer if it comes their way coz they won't like to dance to the tunes of the powers that be who would not like the coaches to be fair and frank as far as the actual fitness of the players is concerned. Also, the Pigeon was humiliated during last year's IPL tamasha when he was benched for all games and he will not forget that easily. He would rather choose to coach his own country.

Can successful--I mean great--bowlers be good coaches?

Probably not.

Coaching, like teaching, require passion and interpersonal communication skills more than than technical skills /knowledge.

Moreover, I personally fee that, at international levels, one does not need any coaching.

Proper support from team and management is more valuable than anything else.

When I say support, I also mean providing sportive pitches to ball on--BCCI has to improve the quality of pitches instead of hiring a bowling coach.

bowling coach?
by vinay on Jan 10, 2010 01:18 AM

simon, is he a pacer? if yes, then how can he coach our spinners.
so v need a spinning coach as well.
then v want a fielding coach.

so after so many tech support, v still need a good capt to win the matches.

Simon !!! Who??
by Kishor Wadivkar on Jan 10, 2010 12:20 AM  | Hide replies

Good to know that one guy who is just 23 matches played for SA, will be Indian coach.
There seems to be a better way of handling this. Why not consider someone from Zimbabwe, Canada who has not played any test, one day as a couch for Indian bowlers

greg chappell played over 80 tests and 70 odd one day games, did he make a good coach? you all saw the results. dav whatmore played just 8 international games in total. he is the most sought after coach right now.
you can criticize eric simmons when you dont see the results. till then STFU

Simons should not be capable for this
by bikas on Jan 09, 2010 11:45 PM  | Hide replies

because he had just 23 one day old ,so i thik they should not be sufficent for bowling coach
2ndy if bcci want south african then in that case Allan Donald should be much better.

not every great player would necessarily make a good coach. greg chappell, kapil dev are standing examples.

Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra..all have more than 10 years experience in plaing international cricket. So what can a guy who has played just 23 ODIs and took 33 wickets bring to the table? Just like John Buchanan with the Kolkota IPL team, it seems that Gary Kirsten is also trying to secure a good job for his kith and kin..

dont be a dick in judging someone even before you can see the results. eric simmons is here not to teach them how to bowl, but to help them enhance their skills.
the australians field really well, yet why do they have a fielding coach? the role of a coach at the international level is todevelop strategies with the captain before the game, keep reminding the players of the mistakes they make and make sure they get over it, to perform better.

Very aptly said. I feel that Kirsten would like to extend his coaching staff as it is getting difficult for him to handle this bunch of highly talented but indisciplined and inconsistent lot.

One thin must be notices though, if Kirsten or BCCI go for a hogh profile bowling coach, there could be problem of synergy and that could be the reason they much have honed in with a low key profile bowling coach.

And sometimes, you never know, these low key people are better than high profile coaches. We have seen it already.

Who is Simons?
by Abhishek Chakrabarti on Jan 09, 2010 10:17 PM  | Hide replies

If BCCI is looking up to some not so well known former foreign bowlers for the post of the coach of bowling coach here are some options:
Angus Fraser(England)
Simon Doull (New Zealand)
Gavin Larsen (New Zealand)
Ian Bishop (West Indies)
Paul Adams (South Africa)
Joseph Angara (Kenya)
Martin Suji (Kenya)
Henry Olonga (Zimbabwe)
Richard Price (Zimbabwe)
Henry Ontong (South Africa)
Paul Reifel (Australia)
Phil Tuffnell (West Indies)
Mustaq Ahmed (Pakistan)

And some Indians:
Nilesh Kulkarni
Rajesh Chauhan
Abey Kuruvilla

And also master of fixing!!! Thatz why, he switched to off-spin in his last ODI because Sanath Jayasurya and Kaluwitharan complained to the umpires that his swing was unplayable. LOL
