after the retirement of macgrath, steve waugh, warne, symonds and forget one more name,it will take time for the aussies to rebuild the team.the retired players were the mainstay of the aussies for some years.with muralidharan retired from the sri lankan team and some on their way out,it should be noted that muralitharan took half the wickets of all the wickets his team scalped, they will be facing the same problem as will india.

Rubbing my hands with glee... serves them right.... Ponting has never been a good leader but plain lucky to have match winners playing under him who could win matches with a robot as captain... all Ponting has done is bring cricket to disrepute and turning his band into probably the most hated cricketers of all times after the body line episode that is.... SERVES THEM RIGHT

Same thing was told after the retirement of the greats like Gavaskar & Kapil....but Team India went on to become no-1 in the ICC test ranking. So don't worry, be happy.

IRRESPONSIBLE AUSSIE MEDIA!
by Kabeer on Dec 27, 2010 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

Aussie media is hasty!

The match is still on and it is only the second day!

If a Ponting or Hussey does a VVS on that memorable day at Kolkata and win the match for Aussies, does the editor of the reputed Sydney Morning Herald going to eat all those pages circulated?

Come on!

Atleast the media should reserve their comments particularly negative ones atleas till the test is over.

Indian Editor did the same and when VVS & Dravid did that memorable feat at Kolkata atleast some editors actually had the courtesy to eat the page they had writted 72 hours before!

What made the media emotional was the humilitaion that aus got in front of 90,000 spectators on boxing day the most favourite day for test cricket in AUS. And AUS media knows its difficult for aus to bounce back after such a low total.

Well in India at Kolkata it is 1,00,000 frenzy fans and the humiliation that the Aussies meted out to Indians was also in the first two days. India was made to follow on!

Ever since VVS Lakshman came up with that wonderful century to win the match, Australia was never the same.
On the first day, the Australian team was beaten, today is the turn of the umpires.

CRICKET NOT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD
by Ashok Lobo on Dec 27, 2010 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

Football is the worlds number one sport because you play on a level playing field the toss is not the boss you get thrown out with yellow & red cards...the grass is green on both sides so does the ball bounce evenly right through and at the end of 90 minutes plus you have had an interesting game.British game cricket was invented not to pass a whole day but 5 whole days it would have been 7 days had it not been for a 2 day week end off...ICC you must get your curators to design competitive surfaces not toss oriented games if cricket has not to R.I.P.

No buddy!

YOu are not all right!

The CONDITIONS that are applicable to home teams and those work adversely against host also are applicable to soccer just as in cricket.

I give you a simple example.

Bolivia as a country is at a very high altitude.

At high altitudes players need a minor acclaimatisation as oxygen levels are lower than those at the mean sea levels.

When the players from nations at coastal nations go to Bolivia they get tired out in minutes whereas the Bolivians already used to those high altitude conditions still can play energetic soccer without any diminishing in energy.

Actually, some high rates teams from coastal countries faced uphill task when they visit countries like Bolivia!

True...but this is only a one off situation whereas in cricket toss and pitch/home ground play a role in almost every match between every country. T20 seems like the only format least affected by pitch and toss. It is affected but compared to tests and ODIs, not by much.

Australia mourns 'death of cricket' after MCG low
by amol nagarkatti on Dec 27, 2010 12:19 PM

The headlines were but expected.Aussie cricket is in the doldrums. With McGrath and Warne gone, the bowling attack looks worse than a school team. Most Aussie players are rotten and adopt crooked means specially in the Chappel era and now in the ponting era.
The likes of Ponting ,Mitchell Johnson,Shane Watson are nothing ahort of cheats and rogues.Mike Hussey seems to be the most the well behaved Aussie cricketer in a long time. The Aussies have definitely not forgotten India's previous tour of Aus,which was "won" by the Aussies through blatant cheating and lying led by their master crook ponting and the drunkard A.Symmonds.
