In Honour of Sachin
by dattatray patil on Dec 20, 2010 12:00 PM

A little guy called Sachin
Sent bowlers fuming
Fast or slow what ever they bowled
Sent them to boundaries with a great timing

While there is all round praise on Sachin's achievement, there always will be few criticising him being selfish, plays for records, didn't score for a winning cause.....

My poser to you all such critics is, why the heck did any other batsman not play for records? Who stopped them scoring centuries for their own records? Who stopped them playing for 20 years? had they been playing well, their own selection committees would have picked them up in the team. Stop this nonsense of criticising for the heck of it.

Certainly this is a record that would never be broken, reason being test cricket is loosing out to the short versions and we can count on fingertips those who would play for 10 years, leave alone 20 years.

Same would be the case with his ODI centuries record. No one can reach 45 itself.

I think over the last few months people stopped looking at Ponting's scores (as he is the one behind SRT in this list of Test centuries).Sachin's name can never be disturbed from these records.

Not great, only good
by Suresh Kalmadi on Dec 20, 2010 11:52 AM  | Hide replies

21 Years for 50 Centuries - That means 2.5 Centuries every Year.

175 Tests for 50 Centuries - That means in every 3.5 Tests he scored 1 century.

This is good, but definitely not great.
Also, stats clearly show, he has played very very few match winning knocks.

Forget Bradman, even Sehwag is way ahead.

9 Years for 22 centuries = 2.44 centuries per year.

84 tests for 22 centuries = 3.81 tests per century.

Longevity? 9 years vs 21 years?

Is this the statistics you used to prove that Sehwag is better than Sachin?

He is good and one of the bests from India... but when you dwarf Sachin in front of him you are just showing your illiteracy about cricket.

What u did with your calculator is childish.

Out of his centuries, India won 20 times, Drew the match 19 times and lost the game 10 times.
What else you think from God of Cricket?

Sehwag and Tendulkar are two different players. Don't compare them. There was a time when Sachin's wicket was the only one needed by the opposition and when they got it, it was like India is 9 wkts down. Sehwag is looked up as a blasting opener. Still there are times when he fails and we have others to do the job..
About match winning knocks.. he is not responsible for losing his partners at the other end. If even one can give stand, his great knocks will be match winning. but his great knocks are not match winning since the partners are out and India loses. So it is the partners who are responsible not Sachin
