Do not hide injuries to earn a trip abroad
by K Ram on Dec 19, 2010 12:43 AM

Why Zaheer made it to SA? Selectors should never select a player who isn't 100% fit. It's not a honey moon or joy trip to relax and rest. Zak only has robbed Vinay or Mithun a place in the team.

Zaheer khan will surely be missed for this test. He's india'a best bowler now. They shouldn't have played him in ODIs against NZ. The other bowlers are also good but they need someone who can guide them in the middle. I dont know why they are playing Raina, Pujara would have been better. And can ICC allow any other player other than captain for toss?

ZAHEER IS NOT INDISPENSABLE
by damodaran mohan on Dec 18, 2010 01:23 PM

Yes, Zaheer's presence could have made a difference. Or, may be not !Other bowlers are also good and it is not that w/o Zaheer India cannot win.Nobody is indispensable and such negativity should be avoided. Actually, india is failing because it is playing four bowlers. India should play the 5th bowlers, it will make all the difference.

Hypeed Team

I cannot understand this. Zaheer Khan is not a great bowler.Kapil Dev,Srinath Venkatesh Prasad were much better bowler but India used to regularly loose as well. Do not Hype Zaheer. If he was playing also it would have made no difference.
Historically India cannot sustain world class bowling on lively pitches.
Just see if the pitch is very flat this same indian batsman will pile runs evenagainst Steyn and Morkal. Shame this Tendulkar is still playing against this kids. When Tendulkar made debut Morkal was just 3 years old. Shame oldie.

I agree with your your first few sentences. But why shame on Sachin playing still? Sachin cannot be looking at others to decide on retirement. If tomorrow a 15year makes a debut, why should Sachin pack up? What is he co-relation?

one lives in a wonderland...!!! Success very easily goes to every Indian cricketer's head once he has cemented his place in the team and keeps getting Lacs even when he is on the bench... This has to change. Why would dhoni perform if he anyway earns billions through endorsements, same is true for others .The only difference is some earn in Millions and others in billions but we all know Indian mentality, the ultimate aim is to have a fat Bank Balance whatever be the field .

No Dear, this is what happens when our team is forced into a Test match in conditions they are not just not used to without the benefit of a single warm up match.

Though foreign teams coming here for a Test series have also played a Test straight away without any practise match, it never is a problem for them becoz our pitches and conditions are ideal for batting and easy for their batsmen to adjust to.

But the same is not the case when India tours Aus or SA or Eng. BCCI in its perennial quest for money making (and pleasing NEO) included a long ODI series against NZ.

Zaheer the Messiah
by JerrY Dsouza on Dec 18, 2010 12:10 PM  | Hide replies

Zaheer is a very good bowler no doubt. If that is the case when Zaheer is fit.. we should only play two bowlers Zaheer and Harbhajan and 9 batsman.

Wake up India.

this is a test match m dear.and a team has to bowl 200 overs..so it means, in every match, zak bowls 100 and bhaji 100 and the next match both of them will retire..

Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail
by John Thomas on Dec 18, 2010 12:01 PM

"Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail" is a classic quote repeated often by slain Cricket Coaching Legend Bob Woolmer.

Let us cut the Hype and look at the plain facts – and the reasons are clear.
Engalnd arrived in Australia for the Ashes Series 3 weeks in advance and played 3 Warm Up matches – and the results are there to see. What does India do ? They get pitchforked straight into the First Test against the waiting South Africans on conditions quite Alien at Home within a week after a Series against Newzealand at Home- with no practice matches. What else can we expect ?

The BCCI does not blink an eyelid even to increase IPL Matches to nearly 100 and the IPL teams to 12 next season – But does not care for even one practice Match or proper planning for such Away Tours. When Big Money is the only consideration for the BCCI, such embarrassments for the Indians on Tour are bound to continue.
But – mark my words – This same Indian Team will perform much better in the next 2 Test Matches – This has been the constant pattern that we have seen in all away series for India.
Will the BCCI ever Listen ?

FAST PITCHES
by john kannattu on Dec 18, 2010 11:58 AM

For years our cricket establishment and players togetherwith politicians are fooling a billion people. Our cricket players can not play genuine fast bowling and we are uncomfortable when the ball rises above knee level. We have to accept this truth. But have we done anything to bring our pitches to those levels. The answer is an emphatic no and why we have not done this is due to the commercialisation of cricket, everyone wants to see batsmen hitting huge sixes and fours. Actually the record of great players should be analysed critically, there should be separate records for runs scored on south asian pitches and the rest. Then you will see how great are some of our players. Unless ICC applies a principle that there should be a certain bounce on all pitches where test cricket is played, our cricketers will not improve. It was pathetic to see how our great players facing 2 good fast bowlers of SA.
