india hav reachd final of world cup 2003 under ganguly when sachin was in the form of his life and had a reasonably experiencd batting line up to support him kiwis r a weak side now and world cup offers new experience to most of the indian players coz they hav to compete with sides much better than New zeland
In eightees and ninetees we had good players but then also Indian team use to loose matches specially overseas matches; The reason found was that the team lacked agression; This was what Dada gifted to Indian Cricket; an agression to win the match; boyz prepared under his captaincy like Dhoni,Raina,Sehwag, Harbhajan inherited this and carried forward and now we see a which wins percentage matches. After all who can forget the famous Ganguly's taking out shirt after the Lord's victory;

Absolutely , you are bang on . Indian Cricket started to change after Sourav and Dravid entered the scene , particularly Sourav , who brought with him immense pride and aggression with him . For him winning was the prime motive of playing .He brought with him the fighting spirit which hasnt doused since , coz spirits never die. Team India was no more a One Man army which it was before . A Rahul Dravid once famously said " On the Off Side there is God and then there is Sourav" . Wisden has righly in its Almanac has rated Dada the 6th Best of all time ODI Greats . Thanks Dada for making us Proud

SG gave the Indian cricket what it never had- AGGRESSION. This was iduced in the BOYS (Dhoni, Yuvi, Bhajji, Viru etc) and now those Boys have become MEN... Extremely Aggressive and Relentless Men. SG played to WIN... to enure WINNING comes naturally to Indian team. SG has done what no other captain before him could dare to do... to defy the selectors and choose his Own men. He was a Gift to cricket... he never had to play to EARN a livelihood... He played for Passion (like Sachin), he played for the Love of the Game. Even with IPL he is one of the Smartest thinkers... hope he get's his captaincy back and lets his Bat do the talking...

Please exclude Yuvi and Bajji. Theier aggression is little over the board and its getting over there heads and become arrogant. They cannot be considered men any more. We dont need such idols for India, younger generations should not emulate them.

Opps i missed Srisanth from the above list. But he seems to have calmed down a lot.
Nothing is left in poor Ganguly da,not even a few encouraging statements. He will ultimately hide himself up in the commentary box,far far away from the short pitched delivaries and when the match is a sure sure shot win for India he will say"Wait for the last ball..."

He is not exactly how you describe him. If, he was that weak a character, he would not have made that successful comeback in the presence of a hostile coach and captain. I guess, it's rather easy to be critical of others but it does take balls to point the finger at yourself and i doubt if you have balls.

DADA is an ass''ole. He pleaded for his selection in the indian team way back ,now he is pleading to the franchises.SRK has already burnt his finger. Now even kotchi/pune will ignore him.

You sound like a typical present day T20 Indian cricket fan....for whom the game is all about lusty cross batted heave across the stumps...Saurav Ganguly is an Indian cricketing legend...silly comments from irrelevant armchair critics cannot change that...

Your right! Regardless of how he played badly as Indian Captain, he is the one who sacrificed his batting skills for Team India. Dhoni is only counting his luck!

true... ppl's memory is short lived... they never remember d good things... ganguly will always be remebered as the greatest indian cricket captain till date.... dhoni's luck will end sooner or later... those u follow cricket religiously can never comment anything bad about ganguly.... he deserved much more respect... he speaks out from his heart... that had ruined his career in the politics n fight against coach.. he cud have scored as good as dravid n laxman even now...

Well said buddy, see this fool says he has still cricket left in him. All the Indian players die to play till they are thrown out of the team or the IPL franchise

Mr Aasif, actually they can only criticize indian team, whether they win or loose (does not matter for them).. They do not know any thing about cricketing skill...

hai rajesh i appreciate ur comments very much. i dont know what credentials ganguly have that he is now commentinting on cricket on tv channels. he did not won the world cup for india . he always struggled in test cricket and got out to short balls. only because of dravid and laxman he survived as captain. according to me he is a averrated cricketer just because he is from calcutta.

Hai Vijay, I am very much agree with you. I think he is marginally better than average cricketer, but not likes of Sachin, Dravid, Laxman etc. Ganguly should thank to them for make him a personality and avoid to comments unnecessary things.

He has the credntials of being the most successful Indian captain.
As far as short vall goes, go and check out his innings in Brisbane, 1st test 2003 december, to understand what a leader is all about.

these chaprasi class fellows who have no sense or culture start commenting on any thing under the sun particularly about the national heroes is extremely deplorable ..... a standard site like rediff should screen comments before posting, otherwise we will only find likes of these anands n rajesh more and more with cheap useless postings!

hai Opinionated Man ,
i think u know nothing about cricket . i think u r from calcutta. as far as ganguly is concerned he took all the praises that should have gone to dravid, he even took dinesh mongia to 2003 world cup instead of our crisis star laxman. u r teeling me about some useless test match in 2003, go and see for urself it is only after dravid and laxman contributed he would scored some useless century.

there was a time when dravid had no place in ODI team... he believed in dravid's abilities n kept in his tema as wicketkeeper... check ganguly's test records & ODI records before commenting... they are even better than Dravid or Laxman...
