A captain looks good only when the team is good. Ganguly's record as a captain was good because of contribution by his team members.
As can be seen from the problems faced by the Oz team under Ponting now. Not long ago, Ponting was considered as one of the best captains in the world...but now people realise that the credit really belonged to the great team members that Ponting had - Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden....Without good players, a captain cannot work miracles.
To win, a good team is more important than a good captain.

Pointing great captain? when? Remeber Steve Wagh won lesser matches than Pointing for Australia. Even them Steve is ragarded as better captain - why? because he built the Australian winning team. Pointing is a better batsman than Steve, off course.

BM u are 100% right. Any captain is as good as his team. Both ganguly & d-ho-bi are average players who ride on luck by performance of great players like sachin, dravid, laxman, kumble, srinath, zaheer sehwag etc. captaincy has no role to play in any win. it is just hyped by media & few regional fanatics fans. Otherwise why under same captain d-h-bi India won 2007 T-20 but out in 1st round of 2009/2010 cup. It is players who win matches & not captain. If your team is good , you will win irrespective of who tom dick & harry is captain. Same is happening in Indian test team now.

While average player like dada is liked only by benali(95%), d-h-obi only by northys(99%), Great players like sachin , dravid, laxman, sehwag, kumble, zaheer, gavaskar, kapildev liked by all over India as they were real hero & legend.

Checkout the achievement and then comment; You cannot put Dhoni with Ganguly; Ganguly deserve to share place with Sachin and Dravid;

ganguly is a lucky captain as dhoni. the thing he had not won the world cup for as kapil dev nor won a series abroad as dhoni but only able to draw the series in england and australia due to contribution from dravid and laxman. he had done anything special and always overhyped b'cause he is from calcutta

Winning the world cup is not the most important thing. After winning the World Cup in 1983, his team was whitewashed by West Indies.

No one deserve a place as a captain if he doesn't fit as a player. Both dada & dho-bi should be played as manager & not as a palyer as if they were good in motivation & politics only.

lakshman who plays against Australia only. check his overall record. Check also rahul's performance during captaincy. India is in imminent danger because Mamas( south indians ) got chance first in their life time. They would screw up everything with card & dosa.
