Is Sanga fooling?
by Crick fan on Aug 08, 2010 03:04 AM  | Hide replies

First Match - Sri Lankans won- They were better side.
Second Match - Indians scored more runs in the first innings despite batting second. Sri lankans got 10 wickets in the match, Indians got 7.
Third Match - Indains got more first innings runs batting second and got 5 more wickets in the test.
If you forget first match, Sri lankans did nothing spectacular to look better.

this is the most stupid analysis i have ever seen. India got more runs in the second innings becuase lanka declared. India took 2.25 days to score what lanka did in 1.75 days.

lol. That is what batting second does. Are you watching test matches for the first time ?. It has been proven time and again that srilanka is an ordinary side which did good in tailor made home conditions. Now even that is under question. And on top of that this cry baby kara has the foolishness to open his loud mouth again. What a fool. He is suffering from some kind of complex.

Very well written. Why are people such fools. Srilanka declared, and India barely managed to overtake their score and lost far more wickets in the process.

This 'india shining' disease has gotten too far, where we have to keep pumping India up as the 'next superpower', the 'best phillum industry', the 'greatest cricket team', and blah blah blah.

ANOTHER SOUR GRAPE FROM THE SOUTH WHO,S FOR FATHERS WERE salves IN THE TEA GARDENS OF LANKA and now kicked in the ass what is the difference in declaring within few wickets and getting all out .it is the prerogative of captain to judge the oppsition and try to win the match.and it is a huge effort to score 600 in rotten wickets of lanka .what is surprising is your insane words and your love for the followers of ravana decedents ,iam sure you are you one born in lankan tea gardens in some unholy friendship

India is number #1 in Test ranking (go on and rant about how the rankings are bogus).

And yours as well as Sangakara's views are way too foolish. Srilanka declared thinking India will crumble from there on, but India didn't and scored even more runs than Srilanka did. And the analysis of "if" this happened then "that would" have happened is similar to thinking if I had 1 crore Rs. I would have had a better ome than my neighbour. Anyways, everyone is entitled to their nonsensical views..

some playrs make the difference. players like Mcgrath-Warne-Hayden..they left and AUssies became an ordinary team..inspite of having greats like ponting..and Lanka they have chucked in victories at home only..India this time took some time to adjust and 2nd and 3rd tests were dominated by them inspite of inexperienced bowling and failure of rahul D the wall. To say that S lanka team was better..sangakara wil have to prove it in future tours..and see how many victories they chuck in

Why Sri lankans lost?
by Crick fan on Aug 08, 2010 02:55 AM  | Hide replies

They prepare the pitches to their benefit. First two matches they batted out Indains by batting first and piling runs on flat surfaces. It would be difficult for any team to comeback chasing 600 plus runs. So they prevailed in the first two matches.
Why they lost this one? They did'nt expect to win the toss in third sucessive occation, so put little grass on the pitch, which made it little more sportive for the bowlers, This made all the difference. They will find it difficult to win on any fair surface. They just bat on flat surfaces and touture the opposition for first two days and make them bat when the opposition players go tired. The pitches go slow after 3 days and difficult to bat on relatively. The other reason could be that the Sri Lankans batsman would be boared of scoring tons of runs in first two matches that they could not keep their concentration going in the third match.

"They did'nt expect to win the toss in third sucessive occation"

Do you know what is probability and independent random variables. Do you know that the previous two toss results has no impact on the result of the third toss. If you don't know basic mathematics and probability, please go back to the slums schools wehre you studied and learn some more.

You bloody Kumar, what has slum schools got to do with maths. I studied in a rural village before joining Purdue for a PhD in electrical engineering. Don't count yourself as math genius because you have picked up a few terms here and there. And if you have so much to complain about India, why do you post here. Stay back in US and act like a ABCD moron. I believe that's what you are! Ignorant rat.

@kumar

the 3 events are independent , but to get them all in that particular result , there is certain degree of luck involved.

chance of winning the 1st toss = 0.5

chance of winning 2 tosses in a row = .5 X.5

Chance of winning all 3 tosses = .5X.5X.5

Its been a while since i was in 12th grade , but that pretty much should be accurate

Kumar you are misinterpreting the situation, although tossing a coin two times are independent events but if you take the sum of outcome or subtract them from a pool of historical results, they become dependent event. So the person over here is guessing the outcome from a set of three random events, he is not taking about one independent event.

If tossing a coin between two teams is completely independent event then out of 100 toss, there is a possibility that one team may win the toss 90 times, which usually don’t happen. If you tally the outcome of coin toss which involve 50-50 probability for each way result in every toss, then mostly the ratio of sum of wins and losses after a significant number of coin tosses will be between 40 to 60%.

Although every event is independent of the other but it did not happened in isolation, it happened inside the Universe which is a one continuous distribution of energy in various forms and one event can become the cause for other and vice-versa.

So if you want you can set or deduce relationship or pattern between two completely independent events and after doing lot of statistical studies and observations with reason and logic, you can increase your chances of guessing the second event after the first relative event happens, this might be the basis for astrology.

Kumar dear, dont think yourself as elitely educated.
By the law of averages the toss would have been expected to go India's way in the 3rd test

this is a reply to the hot-shot kumar, who thinks he is a maths wizard....Mr. Kumar, it is true that the results of coin tosses are independent Bernoulli random variables....but have you heard the weak law of large numbers? Atleast be courteous in your comments..Mr. Cric Fan's comments certainly do not deserve to evoke the kind of response you gave.
