Used to dislike him ..........
by Ritwik Bhuyan on Aug 06, 2010 06:08 PM  | Hide replies

Till he was dropped in late 2005. The guy used to have such an arrogant attitude, although he was one heck of a player till about 2002.

But the guts he showed after being dropped, fighting against all odds when any other person would have given hope up, is just mind blowing. He earned his place, became the 2nd best performer after Sachin in that period, and then retired gracefully in his own terms. He made a hater like me become a fan of him.

I'll never forget this man and his contributions towards Indian cricket. At the moment it's hard for me to name even one player for whom I have more respect than this guy. Truly a phenomenal cricketer, and a fighter of epic proportions.

He turned me into his fan, and that's the way it'll remain as along as I follow the game.

I guess you are talking about someone else, not ganguly.

GO and check Toronto series against pakistan where he single handedly won us the series

Go and check Brisbane test 2003, where again he had a gritty 100 which paved way and gave confidence to India to win in Australia.

Add to that, his attitude after his comeback also became so humble and pleasing. I wish players like him never had to retire, which is such a bitter reality of the game.

dude are you crazy?? Warne was always dominated by Indians, even on Indian turners, what difference could he have made in 2003?? And if mcgrath was missed, in the same series, bhajji and zaheer were missing as well. Irfan and balaji had opened the bowling, so India with a relatively depleted team held aussies to 1-1. And of course it should have been 2-1 in 2008, but we all know what happened? Add to that 2-0 in 2008 home series, and 2-1 in 2001, so we know that despite Aussies dominance of eng, Nz, India was the better team. With the worlds best batting line up.

kumble can be compared to mcgrath and harbhajan to lee. this indian pair of spinners were as good/slightly better than aussie fast bowlers mcgrath and lee. kumble has an almost identical records of matches and wickets with mcgrath and harbhajan also has an almost identical records of matches and wickets with lee.

mcgrath 124 tests 563 wickets.
Kumble 132 tests 619 wickets

Kumble slightly better bowler than mcgrath.

Lee 76 tests 310 wickets
Harbhajan 85 tests 357 wickets

Harbhajan slightly better bowler than lee.

For your information forget about past, I am just saying in last 10 years ie since 2000, India vs Aus is 7-6 in favor of India. India was the only team to beat Australia in Australia. Get your facts right and agree India has played better than Australia in last decade.

'No player has made an impact to Indian cricket as you have done.'

Absolutely right no other players played for India did so for team or country.Might be there are some better player than him like Sachin,Kapil but Ganguly's impact is much hire than them.
