Yusuf Pathan is the most abused player- be in RR or even in India. Just send him ONLy during difficult times- like y'day. he could have been sent at No. 3 or even at No. 4 y'day. he could have got some time to settle down and at least make a try. RR may have still lost, but then when Yusuf pathan came in the asking rate was almost 14 in 6 overs. A tall ask. Similarly, Dinesh Karthik has been equally abused; always send him in the most difficult periods of an innings. To some extent, Uthappa was also abused- if you guys remember correctly.
Re: Yusuf Pathan- the most abused player
by sajo john on Apr 12, 2010 11:12 AM
I think underused or underutilized would be the more apt word..............I agree wid you..................I think Yusuf pathan must bat at no 4 or 5................where he can dictate terms.......and not the match conditions dictating his play
Re: Re: Yusuf Pathan- the most abused player
by vathula on Apr 12, 2010 11:20 AM
The others just prod and push for singles. The whole world- the captain, the team, the spectators, commentators, even the opposition thinks Yusuf can do the job. This is just too un realistic. Then yusuf goes for his wild swings- he is a far better player who desrves to get a run in, set his eyes and then play.
Re: Yusuf Pathan- the most abused player
by harekrishna sahoo on Apr 12, 2010 05:00 PM
frankly saying Yusuf does not know how to steal singles and doubles..thats his problem ..else he is very handy at any situation...
Just OK or at par: 6) P. Chawla 7) Dinesh Karthik 8) Suresh Raina 9) Zaheer Khan
Above par (or expectations): 10) Harbhajan Singh 11) Yusuf Pathan (he also bowls reasonably well) 12) Vinay Kumar (expectations were not high, to begin with)
Always a gamble worth taking: 13) Viru Sehwag
Who knows or where are they? 14) A. Nehra 15) R. Jadeja

Very good analysis. But anyway,Sachin has already decided (a way back in 2007) that he would not play interanational official T-20 matches.
In my opinion, ICC (in its business of money minting) is going too far by holding T-20 world cup in less than year's time of holding last world-up. World cups (whether 50 overs or 20 overs) should be held only once in four years.

BCCI Made a big mistake by placing a MONKEY in the chair of selection committee....

You can't really blame Srikkanth for this. What abt Dhoni and the rest of establishment? Srikkanth went by the 'norm'- did not take any risk. How can you drop Dhoni or Yuvraj or even Gambhir? There are just simply too many 'big paper names'

do you even knows the current IPL avereages of Virat and Rohit Sharma. Absolute fool!

I think selectors have picked up a good team. World T20 is a different ball game. It requires proven players and not pushovers like Sid Trivedi.
Re: Re: Team India for T20- Performance Scorecard
by vathula on Apr 12, 2010 11:23 AM
Yes. The selectors and Dhoni have picked a good team on paper. The list of IPL failures include Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi, Praveen Kumar, Dhoni...the list is too long, my dear.

whatever permutation/combination you try, rest assured mate team-india will be out of the tourny in the last 8, as usual. now you know why tendia opted out of internationalT20, premonition buddy it dawns on you after playing for donkey's years !
Media has claimed bit early that Mumbai is in Semies ... It's still possible that 5 teams earn 16 points and Mumbai is edged out on run-rate.
But for that bottom 3 teams have to lose their matches and Mumbai needs to lose their remaining 3 matches very badly as their run rate is way too high. So, I think Media will have the last laugh even if they do very little homework in reporting anything.
Re: Mumbai not yet there ...
by Sameer on Apr 12, 2010 11:33 AM
well if you are going to assume that 12 ball 72 runs is a possibility, then more power to you my friend.
Re: Re: Mumbai not yet there ...
by vathula on Apr 12, 2010 12:54 PM
on theory, Bipul is correct. Media should have said MI has reached semis for all prcatical purposes and just mentioned that on theory there are still some exceptions.
Sachin is really a role model for indian youth. Let them watch his leadership, his commitment and his team spirit and his tireless age. Today he has scored the highest runs in IPL-3 at the age of 37. In most of his knocksin IPL - he led from the front and his never -say-die spirit. Indian youth should carry the same fighting qualities - unmoved by criticism and respond with only performance

Agreed with Stats , but you forget one thing. MI Net Run rate is way too high , not to figure in the top 4.
Its like you hoping for 72 runs in 2 overs. Its mathematically possible nut statistically impossible
Re: Re: Are they really in last four yet
by Gorango Thakurta on Apr 12, 2010 07:12 AM
Sameer,
We all know that MI has made it for all practical purposes. But, the point is, an expert commentator could say something like, MI are almost assured of a semifinal place. However, there is a theoretical chance that it may not happen.

even kolkata and deccan chargers can top the tables and then it could be mi, dd, dc, kkr and rcb... with kkr aat top of the table with a rr of 3... but then there is also possiblity of dhobi scoring atleast 100 test 100's... there is no harm in thinking ...specially by bird-brainer...

@Irving, boy can't you make your point without being rude or calling names? I suppose you think you are very smart? That IS the defense mechanism associated with an inferiority complex.

All other possibilities ruled out, if today dc defeats RC, then Mumbai is through, Probability of their disqualifying is 1 in 210.
Consider MI stucked on 16. then consider
April 12Deccan Chargers vs Royal ChallengersNagpur2000 0-1 ; RC 14
April 13Mumbai Indians vs Delhi DaredevilsBrabourne1600 0-1 &nb sp; DD 14
April 13Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders Chennai2000 1-0 CSK 12
A pril 14Rajasthan Royals vs Royal ChallengersJaipur2000 1-0 RR 14
April 15Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi DaredevilsChennai2000 1-0 CSK ; 14
April 16Kings XI Punjab vs Deccan ChargersDharamsala2000 0-1 DC 12
April 17Royal Challengers vs Mumbai IndiansBangalore1600 1-0 RC 16
April 17Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan RoyalsKolkata2000 0-1 RR 16
April 18Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super KingsDharamsala1600 0-1 CSK ; 16
April 18Delhi Daredevils vs Deccan ChargersDelhi2000 1-0 &n bsp; DD 16
April 19Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai IndiansKolkata2000 0-1 &n bsp;KK 12
Then Mumbai still might not get qualified for last four, if there run rate is below all other four teams with 16 pts.
All other possibilities of Mumbai getting disqualified r ruled out.

@Avinash, you are the real deal. When the commentator (Shahstry) said that now MI is in the semis, I was like, hmmmm. Really? But I was too lazy to work it out.
I really hope things play out like you say, and then watch the Bombay commentary gang look silly. BTW, you must post this to cricinfo during the next game.

Milind, Avinash's great statistical work is not about being a fan of a particular team but basically saying that commentators need to be more careful when they utter such things. But to be on the side of commentators, they wont have the time nor statistical acumen to carry out these calculations. It should be the work of the statisticians working for the media who should work out this
Re: Re: Re: Are they really in last four yet

@Phadke, my boy... let me complete your education. I went to school in calcutta, did engg in rajasthan, mba in delhi and worked in bombay. So I dont know if I should support kkr, rr, dd or mi? I find likeable players in all sides, but living so far away, I dont care. I just like to watch a good, hard fought game of cricket. I hate it if they are one-sided.
On a different note. Some of the best moments of my life were when I lived with my Mashisa in Walkeswar, and hung out in Chopati with my ghatee girlfriend... But I have not visited my beloved Bombay, since I quit desh after the 1993 century bazaar disaster, when the govt did nothing. Now, I am scared to visit becaue your neighbors can walk into any hotel and harm us. Take care of that, and then I will accept your invitation. Cheers.

One who leads from front The others thinks his team mates will do the job
One who paces his innings according to teams need. The others scores run a ball and depends on others.
One who had lost 2 back to back matches and doesnt blame his players and instead comes out and leads and motivates the entire team. The other who has won previous match scores slowly, wastes balls, leaves without accelerating, loses and then blames the team and calls the team played rubbish and cribs.
One leads from front and scores matchwinning knock from a hopeless situation. The other scores a 32 ball 33 and thinks his job is done and blames his teams players after the loss.
One who is praised by everyone The other praises himself in his own articles about his fielding and ends up dropping simple catch.
One whose big mouth refuses to stop The other whose runs refuses to stop.
The one i know is Sachin Tendulkar The other you guess is .......................
