tests or ODI
by bhuvnesh on Oct 21, 2009 07:16 PM

forget about the splitting ODIs or going with 50 over ODI, India should plan more for tests. now, see we are playing 7 ODIs with Aussies without a test. In this whole year we have played 3 tests only when other teams are playing 15-20 each.

ODI format becomes predictable only
by jeevan on Sep 16, 2009 12:29 PM

between 15 to 40th Over. Where the batsman wants to accumulate runs with singles and the bowlers are content to allow them to have singles. so this pattern has to be broken with some innovative ideas and not the ODI format itself..

PS
What Kapil said is right
by PS on Sep 16, 2009 12:06 PM

25 overs game of 2 innings each means that batsmen will have to hit and go in the begining itself.
Cricket is turning to be entertainment rather than game.Entertainment is good for shorter time but game should be kept alive.
Who has put this stupid concept that hitting sixes and fours means public entertainment.Thats why T20 came into existence
Just one example I would like to give.
Today nobody praises a bowler for good bowling.
Rules are created by ICC which has put many restrictions on bowler.
Outside stump line,if ball is pitched, then no lbw.Hence today's breed of bowlers dont swing/spin too much the ball like Kapil,Hadlee,Botham(His outswinger used to pitch on leg and middle stump and swing towards second slip),Walsh and Imran Khan and other bowlers of that time used to do.
Harbhajan and Murlidharan had capacity of turning at 90 degrees and had earned many wickets from those balls, but they hardly turn ball nowadays.
Watching good bowling is also pleasant. But nowadays any team management and coaches forces bowlers just to bowl straight and if batsmen plays bad, then only bowler gets wicket.
So Batting nowadays is not a talent at all.
Bowler's job is to just complete a over and 6 runs a over is very very good average nowadays.

Forget what Kapil or Sachin says.
Cricket should also be looked as an game rather than just entertainment. Also bowler taking wickets and beating the batsmen outside off stump with pace and swing was also worth to watch.

Jealous of Sachins success
by sandeep kumar on Sep 16, 2009 11:26 AM  | Hide replies

Clearly this man..who thrived when India had no bowlers and thus was able to get 400 wickets, and one who played 5 years after his peak now dosent like Sachins continued excellence. These former cricketers like maninder, yashpal, kapil etc just want to stay in the news

Splitting format will offer Sachin to make more runs as he will be allowed bat twice in each match,he just wants to make more runs and records.Sachin is selfish not Kapil.Any one with minimum common sense will understand this.

Just because Kapil does not agree with Sachin does not mean that he is jealous of Sachin. Read the article completely, Kapil has praised Sachin for his effort in Compaq Cup final as well.
Do not compare Sachin and Kapil. Gavaskar, Kapil and Sachin are probably the greatest players India has ever produced.
Its been more than 15 years since Kapil retired, tell me how many fast bowlers has India produced who have come close to taking 400 wickets in tests. Answer is none.

Kapil says it is pre-mature and never said 'it will not mature'...

btw, do you say Kapil is jealous of Sachin? - ;) OK, we'll take that as the joke of the year's nominations

NO centuries will be made
by avinash bm on Sep 16, 2009 10:20 AM  | Hide replies

If one day games are split then very less ppl will score centuries.. that makes sachins record intact...then there wont be much interest in the game.. it ll be similar to 20-20 cricket with 2 back to back matches.

Well, a good point but who said that the scores of each inning will not be added togather for a Match.

In test Match, if a player scores 50 on day one and 50 on day 2, he still makes century.

It will only change the concept of century.

Cheers

scoring a century is only when its made within the same innings... in test a single innings can be played for more than one day.... it doesnt make it more than one innings...
ur idea is like saying a 100 in 1st test and another 100 in 2nd test makes it a double hundred, which is absurd.

Kapil Dev is a legend. He is the best fittest player in cricket. Do not compare players. Each one is unique. Kapil plays for team. Sachin plays for himself and then for the team...

kapil dev has himself on tv few years back confessed and said "if i take wickets and score runs, does it not help the team, so whats wrong in being selfish .. also sachins selfishness is not as nakedd as kapils when it was his desperation to get the world record and the last 15 months in his international career. he was only a burden on the team"

Kapil and Gavaskar never likes sachin
by Muralidhar on Sep 16, 2009 09:51 AM  | Hide replies

Both the players hate sachin because of his fame....Even though Kapil was a part of the victory to the WC 1983....and sunil gavaskar was a remarkable player those days .... both of them were not praised by ppl like ppl pray and praise Sachin ...thats wy they are jealous and hatredness on Sachin is fully filled in their mind ...This is too bad for a senior player to give statements like Premature ....It was Sachins opinion thats all....No need to give publicity about Kapils opinion

I disagree with you. Sunny hailed Sachin the best in this era of Federer, Woods and many such. Had he disliked Sachin, he would have never said so.
