UnSachin

The list is of "performing" players in the overall context - in the last year or so. Not the players who threw their bat at everything in the final overs in the last match.

dhoni is no better than dravid the crowd booed him for slow batting,in this match there was no dravid so that dhoni could put blame on him for slow rate that made him play a false stroke,
does r . jadeja has the capability to play faster than dravid

R jadeja as the ability to bat and score 40 to 60 and also he can bowl his full quota of ten overs and take 2 - 3 wkts in a match which dravid cant do. hope u saw him playing in u / 19 & in IPL.

Devils Advocate
Not quite
by Devils Advocate on Oct 26, 2009 05:36 PM

Dhoni idea of going for PP when the ball is hard sounds queer. If this is true, every team would go for batting PP , from 11 to 15 overs. If his worry is about reverse swing of old ball, he should realize that not all bowlers are capable of reverse swinging. Moreover, its a very low probability that ball will reverse swing for given pitch condition, weather and ability of bowler. Choice of batting power play should be based on the a) batsmen at the crease or who are to come next in the order who should have ability to play lofted shots cleanly. b) opponent bowlers ability to contain the batsmen with unplayable legitimate deliveries.

REDUCING MORALE

Batting powerplays
by Anand Joshi on Oct 26, 2009 04:10 PM  | Hide replies

Sir ,
Indian cricket team as a unit is not performing to their caliber. We have always been dependent on some miracuous performance by one or two players to win or save the matches.
We have spilled many runs in the power plays due to non performing bowlers.Apart from Nehra we donot have anybody on whom the captain can rely upon.Experienced Harbhajansingh is busy with leg stump line attack which rarely fetches him wicket.
If you look at the recent records,we have conceded 275 runs & more many times. We have won T20 world cup & other matches as the team played fearlessly,now-a days all the players are very cautious and never look like in a winning mode.We are holding the world record of winning the matches while chasing. Our players seem to have forgotten how to chase big scores.

Rahul dravid might hold one end up, but would not accelerate which would put enormous pressure on other batsmen and we would end up loosing the match! So how does that help? This is an ODI and dravid can be useful only when we have to chase around 230-240 and not tall scores. Noawdays 280 is a par score and dravid would not fit the bill at all. But, yes i agree to ur point that dhoni needs to get some runs and at a brisk pace too.

To chase a large score, very often you'll need somebody who can hold one end up so that the flamboyant strokemakers can carry on tehir natural game. For example, look at South Africa squad : Gibbs, Smith, AB, Boucher and Albie can play their natural game because they know if things go wrong, Kallis and Duminy can hold one end up. If there were no Kallis, Gibbs and Smith would have been more conservative in their approach.
