what makes punter more powerful and a greater batsman is that he has handle the pressure of captaincy and think for the team.... and the same time lead from the front and score consistently selflessly ensuring the team wins. such devotion towards the game and alertness on the field is a special quality. india salutes a true champion, ricky ponting on achieving unselfish records.
Sadly, in India, people only talk about non-critical statistics. In the entire bargain, they fail to understand what makes a person a great cricketer. I remember a few months back, ICC had published the list of all time great cricketers and Ten dul kar was way down the ranking. I too like others for a moment thought “what rubbish!”, but later on when I pondered on how many times this man has performed under pressure and when really required, you can count those matches on your fingers. Secondly, all these rankings (as published by ICC and other accredited bodies) are well driven by multiple parameters and not just by few milestones. Unfortunately, many of us get carried away in senseless emotions…

That's because he is supported by great players and there is hardly any media pressure on him when he fails. In India, one failure is enough for media to start cooking up stupid storeys. Ponting too has failed more often than you might thing. Specifically, in ODI, he only improved his strike recently. Few years back his strike rate was hovering at about 78. In tests, high proportion of Ponting's runs are made at home ground and his performance is far below his average in away matches. Most Indians don't actually understand cricket at all... although they support or hate some players. Ricky correctly pointed out that Sachin has been setting the benchmarks. The truth is many Aus and Eng players are given extensive training which incvolves watching Sachin play. Sachin is not great just because of stats, but because of his balance, footwork, artful execution of shots and creative thinking in cricket.
In India, people quickly forget successes and have a tendency to count failures only. For me that is a senseless emotion. You must understand that matches can be won consistently only when the team works very well. Sachin has single handedly won/saved several pressure matches (check yourself) and there can't be any complaint about it. Indians forget that they stood no chance of reaching 2003 final after struggling to bat against team like Netherlands. Sachin performed in imp matches against Eng, Pak, SL to take us to final. Yet Indians complain that Sachin didn't win a WC!
That's right Ponting you r chasing Tendulkar's benchmarks...Can Sachin chase your benchmarks in winning world cups & performing in world cup finals and above all as a captain of the team.

sachin will score 100 centuries and then will score another 100 centuries with his kid........yeah but no guarantee india wins or looses
what is wrong with our guys? why disparage sachin ?it is ponting who compared himself with sachin.yes , he has slowed down due to age and slower reflexes. but that does not take away from his achievements.if india did not win many matches it is because our batemen are paper tigers and our bowlers take wickets in ads but not in real matches.it is only now that we have a decent pace attack worth the name.( and that is also slowing down to medium pace)so dont go about blaming somebody .you have to only look at WI of recent past to understand the dictum that it is bowlers who win matches

Its not about the run scored by tendulkar but the sportsmanship shown by him. Australians can never understand this word as they are always involved in sledging and all other mind games. Now as sledging is nearly banned so they lost their number UNO position. If putting SIR before Ponting would please enjoy yourself. But as a human being Tendulkar or even an average Indian is far better than Ponting or an average Australian.

Dude if India had a Mcgrath, shane warne, gillespie in the same team tendulkar was playing then I guess we would def win atleast 2 world cups. Remember world cup is not won by an individual but by a team effort.

Also Australians are afraid of Indians as can be seen from the present scenario(Australia). May be its great sporting country without sporting spirit but in every other area its just a junk nothing else. Read your history and you will understand what i am talking about (Indigenous Australians). You might have very good cultural mix but still are not open to different socities

I hope you are not a person who is supporting Cricket, you are supporting Indians blindly. Aus team never affraid about their playing in Ground, but now affraiding about their money power. Plz check the Statistics like Winning % of Ind Vs Aus. Actually Indian claiming the things boz of two series win, But Aus won many series so just think in point of achievements instead of blames....

I 100% agree with your unbiased statements. Here, people get carried away and are in perpetual awe, rather than looking at crucial moments and facts!
