Myth of unnecessary shot
by kumar J on Nov 07, 2009 09:26 AM

I have seen many posts blaming Tendulkar for playing a 'rash shot unnecessarily'. I think this is not fair at all. Even at that stage runs were required and it was necessary to use the power play overs; even those who says he should be taking singles will agree that occasional boundary is required. Another point is that you have to outsmart the opponent in thinking. Aussies were bowling slower deliveries to Tendulkar (watch the 2 previous overs) and it was necessary to take little risk to force run. While watching the game, I was also thinking that he will be looking to play late, behind the wicket, which is quite sensible. In this case the ball was towards leg hence the scoop was not a bad shot, which I don't think Sachin will regret; but surely he will regret the execution. Please allow that much scope of error for a person who has fieled well (remember the catch?) played for 40 overs and scored 175 runs.

Just one more point: The commentators hail the skill of the batsman when a risky shot pays off and they will find fault with shot selection for a shot which ended up in a wicket - most of the cases.

Why Sachin is perceived as GOD
by LG on Nov 07, 2009 08:51 AM  | Hide replies

All living forms in this world are part of GOD---GOD resides in everything. Soul takes different forms through the cycles of births and deaths in order to purify itself and be with GOD finally.
Depending on the net positive result of Good Karma and Bad Karma a soul takes higher-level form. Finally, when a soul gets the human body, it gets a chance to attain the highest level of purification and get liberated from the cycles of births and deaths and merge with GOD—like a drop of water merging with ocean and becoming ocean itself. In this context, anyone soul in human body, that has attained the highest level of purification, is sometimes referred as god.

So in my view, Sachin is the god of the cricket in similar sense; he has reached that highest level of purification through his dedication, love for his country, humbleness, and desire less Karma for many years.

It is wrong to think that GOD makes us poor or rich, successful or failure. GOD either helps us, create obstacle in our path or destroy us. God is kind to all. It is one’s Karma (Past & Present) that decides how a soul with its present body live or going to live in this world.

If anyone interested in knowing more about GOD, learn thoroughly about Sanatan Dharma—widely known as Hinduism.

Sachin,

Because of net result of your past Karma, GOD has given your soul a human body which is blessed with mind, compassion, and hands and feet to do purify yourself (soul) to the highest level. You have to get it yourself.

GOD helps those who help themselves.

Sachin one of the greats

Whatever the comments on this rediff blog, Sachin is one of the greatest batsman after Sir Don Bradman and Sir Viv Richards. Sachin is probably the living legend of Indian cricket. He is an Indian First and then a Maharastrian. Correct me if I am wrong

Srikkanth is a waste selector. he always see few good things about cricket match and forget failure. he can't even select good 11 players for the series. short sighted people. better replace him with someone able.

sachin is like a nervous student @ exam..becz when the real test comes he fails ..he played a blinder even though the team is a ausi b team ,as no one expected us to chase 350 but when the target was nearing he flattered....he became nervous.. but he is to late even for getting a treatment for this phobia..
thats why he fails in all important matches...... thats why fails most of the time while chasing....and thats why he plays very slowly when approaching a 100 or any if his milestone....and finally thats why he was a very poor captain.......

You just don't understand cricket enough... Why comment on Sachin... When you have no credibility to know the game of cricket... The good part of every analysis is blame sachin irrationally... Nobody looks at the statistics... Which team has an opener finishing the game.. Sachin is an Opener... You also don't see the disappointment on his face when he got out... Whereas I don't see the same on Yuvraj or Dhoni's face... Out of his 45 centuries, 32 times India has won the match... He has been a backbone of the team... With some many crorepatil players in the team, the team stil is dependent on him and that is the pity.. Remember South Africa's run chase of 434 against australia.. Gibbs made 175 as an opener... but it was Boucher who finished the inning with 64 odd runs.. where is the other player's contribution in the 350 run chase.. to expect Sachin to play for 50 overs and win the game alone is an atrocious expectation... just not done...

praksh i think u r absolutely right in bringing the apt comparison of the match between aus and south africa...in a similar situation...1 batsman played a big knock and other held their nerve not to waste his effors....sadly it cudnt happen here and though 1 batsman scored more than half of the runs...others just cudnt contribute enuf....asking for more from saching is just atrocious !!!!

Those who cant WIN are simply LOSERS
by Yogesh Angarkar on Nov 07, 2009 02:44 AM  | Hide replies

Those who cant WIN are simply LOSERS..........There are 0 points for Efforts no matter how hard you fought.....(Keep aside the Man of the Match award to player of loosing team.....I really don't understand...Shouldn't Man of the match award always go to player in winning team???....how embarrassing situation it was for Sachin himself....)

May be Statistics will favor players like Sachin...and it will help him achieve "Bharat Ratna" but his Individual Statistics is simply History for Team India which landed up on loosing side....

(History) Yesterday doesn't Exist Today....And Tomorrow is imaginary and doesn't exist Today as well...Perform and WIN Today.......as if there was no yesterday and there is no tomorrow...

I would rate Sachin as Greatest ever INDIVIDUAL Player and one of the Biggest Entertaining Batsman in Cricketing world....

However, after watching Sachin's game for 20 years now,

I have hopelessly (sarcastically) come to conclusion that

"The whole nation has already made him GOD, we the viewers and rest of the 10 players of Team India being the human beings should not expect from God to deliver us RESULTS....God just creates environment, situation and provides platform for Human beings ....its left to human beings (rest of the 10 players) to either Perform or Perish...win or loose..."

But aren't you forgetting the fact that the Indian team has a huge facilitator like Sachin who sets the stage with huge knocks and no one else stands up? Have you noticed that Dhoni & Yuvraj always fire when Sachin does not? No way can this be intentional and somewhat startingly this has been a coincindence for India.

In many ways this paradoxical result and the stigma of winning defeat from the jaws of victory is symbolic of India outside of cricket too.

As a nation we are probably the best set of diverse people coexisting peacefully. We have the best talent, but somehow as a nation we cannot seem to dominate even S.E.Asia (not that, that alone should be the goal).

Our cricket is very similar to the 'way' we live. It's a reflection of team (read country) India itself - massive potential, but goals left unreached by a slender margin and someone else garnering the glory.

Look at Pakistan - that team is again representative (until the last couple of years) of the 'way' the country is - brilliant & chaotice one after the other.

Well, well, what have we here?

A very angry response with all the right intentions, but without understanding the point in question.

Raman dude - how many times have we won as a team (excpet the miracle of '83). I very much want our team to win and they are headed in the right direction. For too long, they have been peper tigers. It is refereshing to see Dhoni, Yuvraj & the young brigade take on the world - but blaming Tendulkar for defeats is simply stupid.

Cricket is no yard stick to measure our nations success, cricket is not even a sport and for all we know it could be corrupt as they never eradicated all match fixers,it might still happen,so dont even use cricket as a way to measure our success...
u know how they say if cricket is a religion then tendulkar is god...first of all CRICKET IS NOT A RELIGION and Tendular is just a human being...its degrading the word god if its used on him..

U might have a low self esteem and idolize a loser, but dont drag us all into ur hell hole..

This phenomenon of our team loosing time & again when there is a very good chance to win?

I am a fan of the team and i like Dravid, Dhoni & Sachin.

I am simply lamenting the fact that team India fails collectively and it just bothers me when morons in the forum keep blaming Tendulkar for that!

I don't understand what you mean by saying you will rate sachin as the greatest individual player (indicating he is not a good team player) - You mean he badly affect the performance of other players by his scintiliating performances? Or he induces fear into the batsmen following him, to think that if sachin is getting out in this wicket, how can I survive even 1% of the balls he faced? Or he is not adding the runs he has scored to the tally of others? please explain.

Sorry, reading your other comments, it feels you didn't mean that he is not a good team player or he is not a match winner etc. In that case I take back the above comment...

Just one request to all - Do not consider him as a human being, and do not assume his thoughts on behalf of him.

Is n't too much expected out of him
by Medulla Oblangta on Nov 07, 2009 02:11 AM

"I am looking forward to it. I'm sure he is looking forward to it too. He wants to win the 2011 for India and that's why he is continuing,"

If Sachin serves till next world cup it would great for India but as a selector Shrikanth needs to be practical. With increasing age the probability of Tendulkar being fit during WC is not 100% so its better for chief Indian selector to be ready with alternative options rather than relying only on him. More important for him is to focus on bowling and fielding department of the team. He said he felt bad for Tendulkar because he could not chase 350. My question would be; don't he feel bad for bowlers and fielders who allowed depleted Aussies to reach there? On what credentials Ishant has been retained for last 3 ODIs and Zaheer has been discarded inspite of proving fitness and form in domestic T20 tournament that he played for Mumbai.
