They are goons...dangerous goons
by sham sundar on Mar 15, 2009 07:05 PM  | Hide replies

It is a national disgrace that a BCCI has not yet been reined in!!!! What are the courts of this country doing? How can anybody deny anyone else's right to earn a living? In which law does it say that only the BCCI has a right to select a team for India?

In fact they themselves have accpeted in a recent court hearing...admitting that the current Indian side was no Indian side at all...but a BCCI team!!! Ridiculous but true.

BCCI has no business going around and arm twisting soverign national boards. It has no business sit & pass judgement as whether Ravi Shastri & McMillan should be speaking to one another!

The very reason of sending this joker Niranjan Shah was to spy on players & hypicritical idiots like Ravi Shastri.

I request the BCCI to shed its obnoxious tag...No cricketing nation...their national boards...players like the BCCI. A sad fact this has been brought about by the obnoxious tendency of BCCI....

The BCCI is a national disgrace...the sooner it is reformed the better....the regressive mind set needs a drastic overhaul and its rank purged of the current lot.

BCCI is Flexing their Money power
by Phani Shayi on Mar 15, 2009 07:04 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket is Cricket whether u play for ICL or IPL but playing for the country is more important. Believe me there few Blue eyed boys in Indian cricket who are not better than their counter parts in ICL. Satheesh and few others play a better game than few current Indian or state players. BCCI, as told by NZ news papers are acting like goons. Keep the politics asisde and look into the skill and provide opportunity please

The BCCI is ony bothered about its own interests rather than the interest of its players. I remember the match refrees pull up indian players for any perceived bad conduct while the aussie players get away with cold murder and in this Mr.Broad is a major culprit. But the BCCI does nothing about it. It can easily take up the issue in the ICC meetings and ensure that all teams and players are treated uniformly and any match official who does not abide by these rules should be sent packing. what is the BCCI doing about it?

I don't understand all this talk of calling the BCCI goons. The Indian cricketers are contracted to play for India via the BCCI. As an employer who plays their salaries, the BCCI has the right to decide that they should not do anything that involves participating in events alongside a competing cricket body. In most companies, there is a contract which prevents such conflict-of-interest actions and there is no difference between that and the BCCI's actions. So what is the big deal?

Yes but they can not ask NZC to distance itself from New Zealand players who played in ICL.

Hear, hear! BCCI can control players contracted to it, but if any other board with/without the ICC's nod decides to ignore, BCCI can do nothing but get into a legal wrangle. Would all the respectable cricketers who played alongside Kapil pl.stand up to the Bullying of BCCI?
Shame on you BCCI and all who support this absurdity.

BCCI and ICL
by kskumar on Mar 15, 2009 06:41 PM  | Hide replies

What kind of nonsense is BCCI upto? Is playing in ICL a crime? It is one thing to ban ICL in India, but trying to ban players with ICL connections in other countries is ridiculous.

About time someone showed the BCCI their place.

You will never get to see a more money hungry organization. All they think of is money, money and money, never bother about the players who are to perform. It never occurs to them to give the players adequate rest. Tell BCCI that you will pay them money to play in Siberia in winter or in the middle of Sahara in summer and they will send a team immediately.

All this money and tax free too. When people drawing their monthly salary pay taxes why should BCCI be exempt?

Please dig into your archives (err!! not really rediff's. this was much before the days of internet..those were the FERA days)> A certain Niranjan Shah was arrested at the airport, trying to smuggle out foreign currency to the UAE. The matter was hushed up. Wonder it is the same gentleman.

ICC
by deepak on Mar 15, 2009 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

ICC is a global body. ICL wasn't a rebel league, but only rebel to BCCI. To use the word rebel wouldn't justify as to what really happened. ICL was actually a pioneer and first broadcasted the T20 league. Now Back to ICC; ICL had clearly stated that it wanted recognition from the ICC. However, ICC scumbed to BCCI, and subcontracted BCCI to deal with ICL. It should be ICL which should be taken to world court.

Correction:

It should be ICC which should be taken to the world court. And in India, it should be BCCI which should be taken to the court, since it is registered as private company, not as national asset.

Denying right to earn livelihood is against India's constitution
by Vishal Sharma on Mar 15, 2009 06:35 PM  | Hide replies

Article 21 of our Constitution grants right to livlihood. The BCCI's action of directly or indirectly inducing upon others to prevent ICL associated people from earning their livelihood is an infringement of Article 21. Since the BCCI is an Indian entity, it is governed by India's consitution. Therefore, it must respect Article 21. If it does not, it can prima facie be dragged to a court of law.
