Sachin
Sehwag
Saurav
Azhar
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Kapil
Shastri/Prabhakar (depending on the track)
Bhaji
Srinath
Zaheer

Almost everyone above can bat and bowl!
I think many will agree with the 11, i guess the debating point will be the reserves

reserves:
- K Srikanth:
- Mohinder Amarnath: ( MOM WC 1983 - would provide vareity in bowling the only genuine slow medium pacer)
- Agarkar: ...by statistics one of the best ODI bowler with very decent bowling average (27), also has record for the fastest ODI 50 for India (22 balls)
- Ishant Sharma: hasn't delivered so much, but of what we have seen so far, look very very promising.

Many might disagree with shastri; folks dont forget he has got a man of the series award in prudential cup in austrailia, that involved all test playing teams. Most of you must have seen him only his later half of the career when he sucked.
India has produced very few genuine all rounders, and Shastri is amongst them. (opener as aswell as spin bowling spear head)
And Prabhakar; also in the same league, his change of pace (faster one) fooled many ;)

I agree with you. Shastri, poor chat was sucked in by the humongous expectations we had of him. We thought he was a superhuman. We should understand that people work you out after a successful series. Everybody has their weakness. Moreover, he did not have a captain or coach who could propell him to greater heights. He was left all on his own! Kapil and Gavaskar were the only contenders for captaincy till he arrived. With his wile and grit, he would have been my choice as as a no-nonsense captain. Remembers, simpletons and extremely good human beings cannot become good captains. The qualities of a leader is entirely different and Shastri had them......

Best Team
by jeeves samat on Mar 09, 2009 09:27 PM

For the first time, say after the last world cup, I liked the way sachin played and spoke. This line up is definitely the best in one day matches for India. Even better than the one that won the 1983 world cup. Sachin is great but as far as one day matches and crunch situations are concerned Sourav is equally good, if not better. As a captain Ganguly is better than Tendu, any day and second only to Dhoni. People say Dhoni is lucky and it is only those who say this who do not know what luck is and when infact it does descend upon one.

Best Captain... pfffttt...
by saurabh on Mar 09, 2009 05:39 PM

The "best Indian captain ever" wasn't visible in the field whn number 9 and 10 NZ batsman were sending the ball outta park at will....
The "coolest captain ever"dint had the guile to slow down the pace of the game...use slow bowlers....
thnk God for those 2 unintentional beamers (unintentional coz Munaf can't even bowl 2 beamers if he had to plan it) which brought Pathan into bowling.... and the "Luckiest Captain ever" won it again for India ....

Best batting line up....pfffftttttt..
by saurabh on Mar 09, 2009 05:33 PM

Ofc it wud be the best batting line up considering the runs they score and the way they score them...
but just look through the current cricket teams you would notice there aren't any quality fast bowlers around...bowling machines offer more variety then most of the fast bowlers today...
NZ hav one experienced bowler and tht too Kyle mills.... except for Flintoff and Steyn I don't see a consistent fast bowler around...
Great time for batsmans across the world....
Though Sachin has scored runs against the best of the best...

well..if we can say India got the best bowling at the current time..there is nothin more to add... :)

By saying this Sachin has fittingly replied to Ganguly who in recent interview said he is 200% fit to play both forms of the game.

If u read in between it seems Sachin read Ganguly's interview and has said indirectly that you are not needed and with you in side the batting line up doesnt become the best.

Well the best side will surely play the best side of oppositions, Ganguly averages 22 in one dayers against the best side of his time, that is Australia. And WI will have Marshall, Holding Roberts, Garner etc in their best side and we all know how Ganguly played against gr8 fast bowlers of his time and also after 2000 when ICC modified the one day rules, fast bowlers targetted Ganguly and he averages around 28, overall its 34 for 5 years between 2001 to 2005 when he was dropped but the average is 34 due to minnow bashing of Kenya, Namibia etc, non test playing and non one day playing nation who qualify for World cups.

So sorry to state Ganguly doesnt stand a chance in the best all time 11.

I think in pressure situation Kapil is better batsmen, WC 1983, Zimbabwe v/s India, India are 21 for 7, kapil scores 183 and India around 260, WC 2007, Bangladesh is the opposition, Ganguly scores 61 in 129 balls !!!!!! even though the score wasnt bad enuf like when kapil had scored.

You have created one of the best discussions. Sachin is great but as far as one day mathches and crunch situations are concerned Sourav is equally good if not better. Can't depend on that SEHWAG, had a prolonged BAD PATCH for almost 2 Years.

Not Even on Yuvaraj.

Only GAMBHIR deserves it.

What a waste India has...
by Wisecrack on Mar 09, 2009 12:28 PM  | Hide replies

See these guys.. induldged in wasteful arguments....who cares of your opinions...whether someone is hero or not doesn't matter....what it has got to do with you...have you looked at yourself today...what have you done today for humanity? Forget about doing something for others, have you atleast tried to be a good human being? Even thinking evil about others is symptom of bad human being.

You may not be employed but that does not mean you simply start talking non-sense. Even in desperate situations it is important that you think rationally.
All these guys you discuss about are already successful in their lives. They don't give a damn about what people talk of them. Neither they depend upon society for their bread and butter. But you and me we do depend.

So the best thing one can do is to look for the best action one can take so that he or she also becomes succesful in life in their chosen career like others.

I AM NOT TALKING HERE PHYLOSOPHY BUT A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO LIFE. GREAT NATIONS ARE NOT MADE BY JUST SAYING NATIONAL ANTHEMN ONCE IN A YEAR.

Hi Sadhavi!

Its painful to see Indians hating each other for no reason. Someones success should inspire them rather it has negative effect. These are simply signals of division of India not today, tomorrow but certainly one day.
