Attack on Sri-Lankan team
by anant gupta on Mar 06, 2009 08:51 AM

After the 26/11 terrorists attack in Mumbai, Pakistani establishments were trying their level best to fend off Indian charges by denying/feigning ignorance about the perpetrators and their Pakistani origin. Unfortunately for them, hard facts and evidences furnished by US -- not bumbling and ineffective Indian government -- nailed Pak’s lie. No wonder, the whole world is now becoming aware of Pakistani authorities aiding and abetting Islamic Jehadi/Talibani elements in converting Pakistan into the hot-bed of terrorism.

So, it may be possible that in order to get even with India and to deflect global attention, Pakistani authorities have stage-managed this heinous, pathetic, hasty, amateurish and crude terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket players, which has raised many uncomfortable questions than answers. A combined effort of ISI, Taliban, LeT, JeM and other Jehadi elements may have tried to show that a) Pakistan is also a helpless ‘victim’ of terrorism and needs to be funded massively by the west, b) India is not as innocent as she shows herself to be, and c)

Unfortunately, Indian media has fallen into the trap of Pakistani media’s spin by propagating the theory that 03/03 operation is similar to 26/11 in design and execution. In reality, nothing can be farther from this theory.

LTTE behind SL Cricket Team Attack?
by Guest on Mar 06, 2009 12:26 AM

There have been many conspiracy theories going around regarding the the identity of the perpetrators of the attack and their motive.

One thing that strikes me as odd is with all that weaponry, rocket launchers, rpgs, grenades etc. recovered, is that the entire cricket team WASN'T annihilated. I mean if their intention was indeed to kill them then why didn't they. Was the rocket that missed the bus bad aim...or really good aim?

In other words, what if the intent of the Terrorists WASN'T to kill off the team, but rather to take them hostage? They certainly seemed prepared for a long standoff, what with the dry rations and water they had with them, that could have sustained them for days. Wouldn't think you needed all that food for a simple hit and run...

Motive? Maybe i'm giving too much credit to the LTTE, (if indeed they were behind it) but if their hand was in this attack, (either directly or financially) right now with their proverbial backs against the wall, Maybe this would have been a bargaining chip to force the Sri Lankan Government to halt the military advance & call ceasefire.

A ceasefire the LTTE has been unsuccessfully lobbying for via Tamil Nadu politicians, NGO's and direct appeals to the UN. Maybe this was their last chance at getting a lifeline ceasefire, that they have done many times in the past when on the verge of military defeat.

something fishy!
by dipankar dasgupta on Mar 05, 2009 12:29 AM  | Hide replies

There is something fishy about the whole incident. why did younus khan delay his teams departure from hotel? he must have got inkling if not prior instruction from 'above', Secondly, 12 men killing 5 policemen but just walking away without any injury or death while there is a strong commando protection. Thirdly how could the terrorists know the last minute change in route taken by the bus? How 12 people firing from AK-47 targeting a bus from very close range could cause only 10 bullet holes in the bus. In the footage we saw that there was continuous firing for 25 minutes. All these dont fit--It must have been stage managed. The players got away with minor wounds was not by chance but by intention--to embarrass but not kill. The front of the bus is transparent. Why did the terrorists fired bullets which passed above the head of the bus driver? They are well trained fighters--cant think that they missed aim as big as that with a rocket launcher. They hurled only one granade from their heavily armed bags and that did not burst. They left the bags but carried the guns while escaping in motorbikes under full vision of day light--no no--this really does not fit.

i saw the footage today about the terrorists running away on motorcycle. Through their calm demeanour it was evident they had complete grasp of the area. It seemed they were fully assured of escape. You are right that the Sri Lankans were injured but not killed not out of ineptitude but for a conscious reason. I feel the message addressee intended through this operation was Zardari, and this seemed an army operation. It can be observed that no terrorist group has claimed responsibilty.

Through this operation, the Zardari regime has been shown to be what it is - inept and impotent, and western pressure on Pakistan could also ease.

What is the MOTIVE for this?
by Rekha Harthik on Mar 04, 2009 12:42 PM

Who stands to gain in this attack against the Srilankan team in Pakistan? What is the motive behind the attack? The attcak may not be directly against the SRILANKAN TEAM ! Then it may be to terrorise, create a fear psychosis in the minds of people of Pakistan??? or the msg is directed at teh World at large? OR as FBI is just about to go to Pakistan to interrogate the accused held for the Mumbai attack, it is a divbersenary tactics by Pakistan itself to escape from the gaze of the World pointing a accused finger against that country? if that be the case then Pakistan has everything wrong, to come out of frying pan it fell into the fire !!! By indulging in such cheap tactics it cannot gain anything..except a temporary reprive..thats all. Any way now to give credence to our story, Pakistan is accusing India as being behind the Srilankan attack! What ever it may be the truth will hang the real culprit whether one agrees or not.If Pakistan is itself responsible directly against this attack..(Its hand is proved in Mumbai attack already)then it will pay for this in teh times to come.Let the World watch & wait...they will dig their own grave. But I am deeply hurt at killing of innocent passers by, the Police men etc in this Srilanakn attack, just as the case of Mumbai attack. I am sure God will never forgive the perpitrators of this crime.Let justice be done soon.Guilty be caught & punished. This misguided dirty politics must end.The world must have its right to live peacefully. "Jai Ho

Take positives from Yesterday's attack
- No Srilankan Cricketer was killed
- Few people died and worst was averted. Allah has given you a wakeup call.
Wake up before entire country becomes SWAT region.
Wake up before generations call your generation - a generation of impotent people- who silently supported or enjoyed or remained silent because of fear, when people in India were being killed, when innocent people around the word were being killed.
wake up and clean your house , before it is too late.

What will they do by waking up? They are a democracy only for name-sake. If they wake up and raise their voice, the voice will be silenced either officially or by jehadis. Better for them to continue their slumber.
