did you go on a coma and wake up after 1998 ? he worked on short pitched deliveries and did way better than the series where in he lost to short pitched deliveries. Mahesh -- get a cat scan done asap... or wait .... are you diagnosed with selective memory loss disorder ?

Oh Friend! Stop Ganguly's batting against short pitch ball etc ,any way he is already retired. It's better to talk about our current team. Is it right approach as a sports lover ?
From the IPL we all new very well that as captain as players these Dhobi, Yuvraj, Harbajan displayed pathetic show and all were worried poor form of these guys and average of Gambir and Sehwag will affect the WC T20. It is no doubt we lost because of poor performance of all and Dhoni is mal inetntion of " intent to win was not there". Ganguly you being a senior guy you should not hide the fact, pl call spade aspade. Do not give diplomatic reply to media. Dhoni was not at all intented to make or even pushed for 2 runs to equal the score. He has not pushed for coupl of 4s or a six that would have made difference. Last T20 we won becuse of catch of last ball only, only Mr.

You mean to say in Semifinal & super eight matches we one because other teams walkover. Great!!!!
Mr.Sourav now tell me if you were offered 2 lakhs for a match and if you have injury will u hide it or admit and stay away. That is the problem with our players. they put money in front of patriotism. In that case every indian is thinking in that way only thats why we have so many problems in this country
even if ganguly was not a natural puller or hooker still he opened in ODIS and made 11000 odi runs which very few people can achieve
he has 100s in seaming pitches of brisbane, headingley, hamilton, johannesburg some in odis and some in tests
may be if u r not a natural puller u can still make runs on fast pitches if u can play THE UPPER CUT SHOT OVER THE SLIPS AND IF U R A GOOD CUTTER OF THE BALL u can make runs on bouncy tracks
ganguly was a fantastic cutter of the ball but not a good puller

Mind you. They scored their runs when the match was heading for a tame draw. Also in all those case where Ganguly scored runs the bowling line-up was very pathetic. Strike bowlers were not plaing in that match. Specially in Brisbane. Mcrath,Warne were absent. So dont' compare Ganguly with anyother batsman. Ganguly was poor poor performer agt. quality bowling. Akram,S.Akhtar can bowl out ganguly 9 out of 10 times they aim. Among the present batsmen only VVS Laxman plays short pitched deliveries with some authority. That the reason he has been such a hit with the Aussies. He comes and gives all Aussies bowlers a nightmare even in their dreams.Sachin too is a weak batsman agt. short pitched stuff and real quality bowling. Most of his runs too have come agt. average bowling attack or in batting favoured pitches. Mind you. Its an asonishing fact that batsman with over 10,000 runs can't play quality bowling like Sachin,Ganguly,Shewag etc etc.

Mr.Kumar Chakraborthy, short-pitched stuff are difficult for all players irrrespective of their quality. That's why fast bowlers employ that for intimidating the batsmen. Its always 50-50 if we try to pull or hook it depending on your height. So when you are playing to stabilise innings it is always safe to duck the balls. But once in a while batsmen try to play that to have a mental advantage over the opposition bowler. Batsmen with more height can do it better compared to those with less height. That is the reason for Laxman's success in fending these deliveries much better than Sachin. But Sachin does that when he feels confident and he sees that team is in a safer position to go for shots.

who told you that sachin is not good at short pitch ball. He is master of cutter, hooker & puller. Only later part of his career due to injury he has stop playing hook & pool shot. Dont you remember his great hook of Andrew caddick in one of the world cup match against england or you forgot slap shot to shoheb in world cup match.
Re: Re: ganguly

The problem with Ganguly is his stance. He leans down much more than the other batsmen when he bats. So when he gets the short pitched stuff, often he cannot bring himself into a position to fend it nicely.

What draw.India won in Headingley. Anyway in Brisbane, they had Brett Lee. By the way, Warne was a spinner. Agreed Ganguly had problems against balls directed at his ribs, but he sorted it out. So when it comes to Ganguly not being a quality player, it is a load of horse manure. Talking about Sachin, he has a terrific record against Australia, the team with the best balanced bowling attack in the last 15 years. The Aussies used the short ball well, they got a great deal of lift and bounce, still he did well. So to call Tendulkar a weak player of quality bowling is a huge load of horse manure. One final thing about Ganguly. Any player with more than 18000 international runs must be called quality. Maybe he was not in the same league as Tendulkar and Dravid, but Ganguly was quality.

Even S.Waugh was not comfortable against short pitch bowling but he scored with above 50 average in tests.

even veeru is not a puller but bcoz he is such a good cutter that he cuts the ball over the slips he makes runs easily ganguly also was a good cutter similarly syeve waugh also a good cutter if u cannot play the hook stroke and if u can cut the ball well u can make runs

In short: Indian players can play fast bowl very well. It's not 80s and 90s. It's 21st century. India is doing very well in abroad.

Its not the skill...its the will which helps you sail during tough times. You would be able to dig out n number of sportsmen who were short on skill but still managed to play when it mattered the most. Steve Waugh comes a ready recall.
SG is giving a diplomatic interview. due to money issue, players are behaving in different way. Indians should know how to bat against short pitching or any other. Team effort with highly elivated mind is required for success.
Short-pitched deliveries were always a concern in last decade for
1.Talendors(Like Kumble, Srinath, Prasad etc)
2.Ganguly and some players who played only in some test, we can say less talented(Like Bangar etc.)
Now the situation has changed in last 3-4 years. Our talendors like Bhajji, Zaheer can play very well against short pitch bowling. Our openers like Gambhie is very good against short pitch bowling. In middle order Yuvraj, Dhoni are good players of short pitch bowling.
No doubt on our seniors Dravid, Laxman and Sachin ability.
