Vinod Ganpat Kambli---Cricketer --part 3
by vilastadoori on Jul 15, 2009 01:54 PM  | Hide replies

Continuation---that led to the emergence of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly...was out of the indian team and then came back in 1997 when sachin was the captain in the toronto series...was much disciplined then and was batting well when he lost his foot and broke his ankle in 1998 against australia and was out of action...his last test match was against NZ in 1995. He came back again in 1999 when sachin was captain and never proved himself after that...there were better players by then like Laxman and dravid and ganguly and shewag firmly established themselves as match winners....and poor kambli was lost in dark...His statements explains the kind of desperation in him....ONce he was commentating..Azhar was the captain...they showed sangeetha bijlani...he stops commentating and says " There is our Bhabi..."
once in a chat show the great umpire srinivas venkat raghavan tells the he was embarassed when a lady steaker ran across the feild...kambli replies " really...I wish i was there...." and his famous statement " Tendulkar took and elevator and I am comming through stairs..." He could not handle in initial success and indian cricket lost a great talent nipped in its bud...I feel very sorry that we lost a near batting great who could have got an average of 55 and 11000 test runs...what a waste of talent.....

Vilastadoori, I firmly believe that Kambli could have played at least 100 tests. He was always a better batsman than Saurav, but he lacked the courage, determination, perseverence and leadership.

Vinod Ganpat Kambli----Cricketer--part 2
by vilastadoori on Jul 15, 2009 01:42 PM

Continuation...he almost won a match against pakistan with Atul Badade(ne one remembers him)...he hit a half century and still we lost the match.Salim Malik the then captain commented that I felt rest assured when kambli was out...it was during that series...the world came to know that he cannot face short pitch stuff...he was miserably not comfortable against the Short Pitch stuff...even during his period players from kenya...try to bounce us..no one in india knows to play it well. In the recently concluded T20 it was exposed that we cannot face short pitch and cannot play spin ...the commentator was commenting...they can only play medium pace bolwing straight...Comming back to kambli...He was good against spin...At his time there were players like Sourav ganguly and Rahul Dravid breating under his neck and he never felt any preassure to keep his place in test cricket and they took his and sanjay manjrekar's place and the history knows what they have done to indian cricket...Atleast for argument sake their averages are better than that of kambli on paper...they valued their place and priced their wicket...ganguly does not know to play short stuff but he made an effor to learn it...what did kambli do...? I can never forget him crying on the field in the world cup 1996 aginst the srilanka semifinal..but his emotions should have made his bat talk and not cry...He was then dropped from the indian team on disciplinary grounds and was not taken to england in 1996..that led to the

Really what he said abot board is right..because he dropped from the squad after the loss in semi final ...sad thing is he only stand in the crease ..all of other players got out in that match...Bloody jadeja played very badly in that world cup ..but got place in the next tour..azhar too...but tendulkar helped him well..when he captained the team..even he rested and gave the opportunity to him in his last match..against west indies in singapore..in a last chance in champions trophy final in 1999 against N.Z before going to the crease HE ADVISED HIM FOR an half an our..the ly requirement of the team at that time was occupying the crease..but he got out soon..Tendulkar helped him as much as he can,,

partly disagree. to b precise, in that world cup 96, jadeja was the one who turned the tide against pak by smashing waqar then the deadliest bolr, all over the ground. n removed all the fobia of their pace bolrs from our mind.

SELF DESTRUCTIVE
by madanmohan siddhanthi on Jul 15, 2009 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

No doubt he is extremely talented , perhaps even mor than Sachin. He is self destructive - a little riches - Desire , Determination ,Dedication and Discipline all vanished .

I have also seen a lot of Brahmin boys who could never make it . The question is you have at any time 20 in the reconning .

It is not a suprise Vinod has chosen caste as a reason . With the way Government is going about on reservation - simply put giving opportunities to undeserving - we have already ruined the government establishment - where nothing works except money or some other form of corruption.

The fact that some one in selection committee , need to be in your favour can not be denied .

Because the selection is not based on purely facts and figures - yes we can work out a system of Rating scores and decide on the top 5-6 batamen and 5 Bowlers .

Madanmohanji he was better than Saurav. But Sachin? If Sachin is a god and then he is an animal. If Sachin is a King then he is worst than a slave. He never had the talent of Sachin. Please do not exaggerate.

Vinod Ganpat Kambli----Cricketer--part 1
by vilastadoori on Jul 15, 2009 01:22 PM

Vinod ganpat Kambli is a LH batsman, first debuted for india against pak in sharjah in 1991...he had a decent series...later he was not picked for australia series in 1991 and 1992 but was picked for the world cup..his first match was in perth australia against england on feb 22'dn 1992...Ian Botham took his wicket, I guess bill lawry was the commentator and he tells the following verse when kambli threw his wicket..."u cannot drive like that in perth..." i guess he was 19 at that time....and when botham took sachin's wicket...the same commentator commented..."he is goin after the kids...". The stage was set for him...that world cup set a platform for greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Brain Lara, Inzamam ul haq and Wasim Akram....but lost Kambli....He later surfaced under the leader ship of Azhar...to play the test match for India against the touring england...he scored a double hundred and then a subsequent one against zimbabwe..later he went to srilanka and scored a century against them..Azhar was proving a point that india is atleast a better test playing nation than srilanka to prove Allan Broder wrong...and we won the Test Series...we never had a series abroad after that and kambli was not tested against short pitch stuff...later in 1994 we went touring to NZ and we had the caption " young kambli learning to play swing bolwing..." did he ever?
We came back and had a Test Series against WI and he failed there...Saw him hitting few sixes against Warne in sharjah and an almost

Non performance based selection
by Kumar Chakraborthy on Jul 15, 2009 01:12 PM  | Hide replies

If performance was the sole point in the slection procedure then how come one see that a player who has performed well is suddenly dropped fr. the team. For ex. Tino Yuhonan fr. Kerala. He was a versatile bowler with good swing & bounce. Her performed well. But in the next series he was dropped and later on not to be heard. Likewise S.Ramesh,Akash Chopra etc. There are many. If there is no backing then one is not sure of his place in the Indian team. This is crystal clear. Also someone who is not heard properly is picked for a seres. Like Murali Vijay. Very funny. Kambli was dropped immediately after the West Indies series citing reason he was poor agt. short pitched balls. Now pls anyone tell me who is not week agt. Short pitched stuff. Other then Gavaskar,Jimmy & Laxman i have not seen any indian batsman play well agt. short pitched stuff. So surely there is some mystery. Very funny.Sreeshanth when he is bowling well why he was not picked for the 20/20 W.C. Ishant not good for short duration matches. He is only good for test and that too only on bouncy pitches. But he is picked always. Worst performance in the last two series. So indian selection is purely on backing. Performance is only secondary.

If Tendulkar has backing, according to ur logic, then why not Kambli? Both are from Mumbai.Tendulkar's father did not have not money to bribe the Mumbai officials. Every one knows. Sadananda Viswanath was thrown out but not Rahul or Kumble, why? All are from the same state and should have been backed equally by their state.Saurav was backed but Subrata Banerjee, Deep Dasgupta were all dumped.

Caste Discrimination is a Fact
by upendra prasad on Jul 15, 2009 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

I do not know what Kamble has exactly said about Sachin, but the caste problem is a harsh fact of Indian society. Many meritorous people of SC, ST and OBC suffer from this disease of Indian society. Rajeev Shukla is a known castist in Indian media. No one is going to believe him that caste does not matter in the selection of players. The Caste establishment of India can digest a Muslim or a Sikh or a Christian, but not a person from OBC/ SC/ ST background. That is why Limba Ram suffered and Bula Chaudhary of Bengal also suffered. The Caste establishment spent crores on Abhinav Bindra, but Limba Ram was not provided even a world class BOW and arrows.

Upendra prasad, You are an epitome of Hypocrisy. Had it been a case if Kambli has not been given a chance at all to play for India then you have a point to argue that based on his Caste, Creed, etc ,etc . he is one man who is given numerous chances to play for India despite repeated failures. may be because of his caste, color etc he is given so many chances to play.

It is possible that castist like Rajeev Shukla might not have been aware of the caste indentity of Kamble initially. That is why he was inducted into the team. Later on, when his OBC background was known, discrimination started. This is happening all over India. All of us are aware of this fact. India is backward in sports, because of the neglect and discrimination of the people from poor social background
