Many happy returns to Mr. G
by Guest on Jul 11, 2009 10:26 AM

On behalf of his innumerable fans in Bangladesh and all over the world, I wish Sunil Gavaskar a very happy 60th birthday and wish him a long life ahead. Personally, I consider myself eternally fortunate to have seen him bat in two of his most famous innings - the 90 in the tied test against the Aussies in 1986 and the 96 against Pakistan in 1987 in Bangalore. It was like watching a master craftsman leading a classical concert!

My Salute to a real master
by pradeep rodwal on Jul 10, 2009 11:27 PM

A sincere salute to a true genius in every sense. What if every budding Indian cricketer wants to be a “Sachin” or “Kapil Dev” , everyone knows if Sachin or Kapil dev would ever be asked what they would have liked to be known as a cricketer..I am sure their heart would say “Sunny Gavaskar”

Long live master , you are a credit to the game and will be forever. You are a rare and a true ambassador of “Gentlemanship” in this game of gentlemen.

Indian cricket owes you a lot.

Many Many Happy Returns of the Day, Sir Sunny

If you would have been changed at your birth, as would have hve happened, the nation would be today saluting the best fisherman ever...
You have the ability to excell in whatever you do because you have immeasurable discipline, dedication and your concentration is legendry. In your first series, you made Windies dance to special tunes made entirely in your praise and thereafter, you have never looked back. You have taught the cricket is not only a game but also an art, an art of perfection.
Especially, I commend that you are direct and forthright in expressing what you feel and your outburst at Cricket's Mecca for inadequate infrastrucuture facility like a lift for coming to third-floor commentator-box was a defiant, righteous retort to superiarity complex of the white administrators.
At 60-plus, you may feel bit disenchated.
But, Sir, do continue to nuture and help the budding youngsters who may respect you and heed to the advice of the perfectionist.
Little master, Great do-er, pursuasive trainer and teacher, we all cricket-lovers bow to you in all reverance, respect and wish the most and best of all desired or cherished by you and yours in the days to come.Khush Raho Snil Manohar Gavaskar, the one and only, for-ever.

Best Wishes
by Anshu on Jul 10, 2009 09:53 PM

Best wishes on another milestone! The greatest batsman India has produced considering he played in an era which had almost all the All Time Bowling Greats - Holding,Roberts,Marshal, Garner, Lillee, Thomson, Hadlee, Willis, Botham, Kapil and Imran Khan! To face all these (except Kapil of course!) bowlers without a helmet and in the age of uncovered pitches is a telling statement of the man's achievements. Scoring so many runs as an Opener against these bowlers and under such conditions is a huge achievement.
A salute to you Sir!
I remember the shock I felt when you announced your retirement although I was just a kid then.. But you retired when people were asking 'Why?" and not 'it was high time'.. that itself was a great way to go..
You also give a direction to Indian Cricketers on how to lead the post playing days..
I had made your portrait sketch in my school days and it remains a wish that some day, I'll be able to meet you and get your autograph on it!
I remember your last innings of 96 when the next highest score was 21 by Kris Srikant! It was maybe the greatest innings to be played on such a minefield of the Bangalore field.
May the Sunny Days go on and on...
My salute to one of the All Time Greats!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
by Nalin Purohit on Jul 10, 2009 09:05 PM

MANY, MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY.
MAY YOU HAVE MANY MANY MORE.
Sincere prayers for a well deserved Century and many many more years.
We have not known much about Sunil Gavaskar, and there is a request on behalf of many of my friends, that we know something more about you.
The youth follows the leaders, and there is nothing wrong in knowing about the secrets of your success, if others want to follow your footsteps.
