what abt kumble?
by virat v on Jul 02, 2009 06:16 PM  | Hide replies

i agree with thomson for ponting. but not agreeing much with his views on hauritz.
if he believes that hauritz can't even spin a ball, then what abt kumble. he didnt spin the ball in his entire career (!!!) still he got 600 wkts!!! ultimately its the wkts that count.

Where did this come from.?
With such a comment i wont even try to go into technical things to explain the difference between the two.. But yes i can say that the only similarity betwwen the 2 is that they play cricket... then even u can be compared to the GREAT ANIL KRISHNA KUMBLE......

thomson himself is a crap
by suresh mehra on Jul 02, 2009 12:54 PM  | Hide replies

this is mordern day cricket n not old days ..
scoring 200 in 50 ovrs was itself an achievemnt in those dayss .. now days presurre is on both batsman, bowlers and captains ... so u cant expect everytime frm any team to win ... bcoz in sports one has to loose and the other has to win ..

first, ponting has been found wanting with his captaincy and of late with his form itself. he did very well when he had a brilliant team which did much of the work. now that he's been exposed, everyne's bayng for his blood, and rightly so, his karma has caught up with him! thankfully!

you certainly cannot compare people of 2 eras. true that these days pressure is much more than before, but you also have escape routes, or the reward. its much more rewarding these days then it used to be befre. also, these days you have better man management and coaches to help you out. besides, Australia is the best managed side.

your theory is on weak grounds.

yes they are all very good players, but AUS's should learn how to behave in the field. They can anything (ex: under arm bowling againist NZ in earlydays) to win the game. They have started sledging.

Rather than saying steady captains, we can say they have steady players... See the current situation of them.

You might find hard to accept fairly visible things. Righto!

Dhoni, as a captain failed in IPL, T20 World Cup 2009 & not so well in WI Tour. How do you rate him as a Captain?
If you are comfortable with these failures, Rebello's comments on Aussie Captains is well on track.
Hope you take this.

ponting is crap
by wizardo id on Jul 02, 2009 11:52 AM  | Hide replies

thomson is absolutely right! ponting has a lousy attitude, and has won largely on account of his dream combination, more than his skilful captaincy.

preposterous nonsense. yeah, you saw how woefully inadequate Rajasthan royals were without shane bond and the pakistan bowler. shane warne couldnt do much, even though he was a wily captain.

@wizardo id
Seems you have been busy leading bunch of losers...lol.

Did you mean Shane Watson, Mr.Farcical failure? You must have. A couple of woefully inadequate Rajasthan Royals' player is not touring West Indies, under Dhoni. You ain't aware of this, is that what I believe.

Duddo ID, I will reiterate my previous saying without errors,

IT IS HARD TO LEAD A TEAM WITH SKILFUL PLAYERS (FOR A LONG TIME) than leading (?) a team with big mouthed pfandits (bajji)

Padded articles

Rediff's reporters double the length of their very mediocre articles by first making a statement in indirect speech and then follow it up by saying exactly the same thing, this time in quotes. So just read every alternate paragraph!

thomson
by Finix on Jul 02, 2009 11:21 AM  | Hide replies

mr thomson, agreed u were the fastest bowler in ur time, but u were no near the likes of McGrath or Lee.and btw u have no authority to crticize ponting in an abysmal way.ponting won the 2 consecutive world cup for his team without losing a match.

even the gr8's like border and S waugh couldn't do that, their team struggled a lot and then won a world cup.

Agreed ponting had fabulous players in his team, but after warne fiasco before start of 2003 world cup, ponting was capable to bring fire in his team and crushed all opponents.ponting's team won in india, although gilly lead the side, still ponting was in team's think tank.ponting's team crushed ENG in ashes down under with 5-0 defeat.ponting's team easily defeated SA in test series many times apart from last series in down under.

Ponting,in fact is the captain of the last decade, undoubtably, although he is little over agressive, other captains should learn from him,not criticize him in abysmal way

yeah, and how was the english team like when they got whitewashed ? none of the current opposition save india gave as much as a token fight against the crassy crappy egoistic aussie team. there wasnt a time when any other team peaked, nor innovated and fought with gumption against the aussie team with ponting heading it.

remove those top few players and ponting is badly exposed.

If ponting fails in ashes then criticim would mount and ponting would be put to sword just like they did to Hayden.

You know would be the happiest of ponting going down, it will be our Sachin!!

Because his record will be intact, adn we can finally see him retiring after a long career!
