Ponting has lead his team to 2 World Cups in 2003 & 2007, how can he be crap. He also played a major part in another World Cup which Australia won in 1999. He is the second highest century maker in Test Cricket. How much cricket this guy Thomson has played to make such silly comments.May be just to remain in the news.
Does anyone even know who Thomson is ? He is the fastest ever bowler in Test cricket. He was measured at above 160 km/h during his days using conventional radar, that too at the batsman's end of the pitch. Imagine what his speed would have been if measured using today's technology after the ball is released right from the hand. It would have easily been above 170 km/h.
Rod Marsh, the wicket keeper who kept for Australia constantly maintained that Thomson consistently bowled upwards of 180 km/h. The pair of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson is regarded as the most fearsome combination in Test cricket. Even WISDEN once said that, "... it was easy to believe they were the fastest pair ever to have coincided in a cricket team.
he was made capt as there were no other youngster in their team. all above 30 yrs of age. n warne not preferred for his off the field behaviours. so ponting got the cap by default without any competition.

Ponting was lucky because when he necame captain he had hayden, ghilcrist, warne mcgrath, martyn,langer,symmo all of them were in amazing form..even Lee was bowling well. more than half the side was match winner.
Anybdy from this redifmsg board wud have captained..
now all of them have gone and now they have srated loosing..

Yes, Ponting was lucky all the way in winning World Cups, Ashes, Champions Trophy, etc., etc.
Have you seen anyone as lucky as him to win everything in trot since becoming Captain?
You might not. So, accept that he is a winning Captain (be it luck according to you).
ponting is lot better than current indian captain. we can call dhoni a crap but not ponting.. ponting is great and aggressive who has won two world cups for aussies. can't call him crap

Agree with you. Ponting should consider himself very lucky. Considering the treatments meted out to Taylor, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, etc by Aussie selectors, Ponting should consider himself very very lucky. If the same yard stick would have been followed in his case he would lost captaincy long back. Just think how many failures Aussies faced under him right from 2007. This is unlike Australia. He had reduced Aussies from a great invincible team to a good team. His own performance from 2007 is very bad.

correction-ponting did not win, it was the team comprising hatden, mcgrath, warne ....that won australia...now with average team u can see the great ponting's great captaincy...and by the way DHoni is way far ahead, dont blow just for the sake of blowing

records speak for ponting..........he has nothing left to prove as captain now wid all major wins in his kitty in both tests and odis.........his team recently won in saf also even wid d weakest of sides around.....hw many even strongest of teams hav won test series in saf..??

He may be idiot. But he won a world cup for India. But he never took credit for it. He is more matured than Ponting. A disgrace to OZ cricket.He can't be a good loser. He has always something to say when he loses a match. Look at what he has got on his plate. A bunch of average players and the see the performance of the OZ in world cricket.He sucks big time and he is one CRAP as Jeff pointed out.
