India played in New Zealand on similar pitches
by Dipak Kothari on Dec 27, 2009 06:09 PM

Though the kotla pitch was not upto the mark it was constant commenting from our "India commentators" i.e Gavaskar, L. Siva and to top it all Ravi shastri the master of " all ceremonies" about the state of the pitch which led to Kumar Sangakarra on the field. Indian team had played on worst under prepared pitches in New Zealand where we fought closely contested one day matches. It would have been a keen contest to see the bowlers dominate the batsmen and test their true batsmen skills. The batsman should not have worried about the injuries as all the latest protection gears are now available. Both India and Srilanka would have not complained about this pitch if they were playing in Australia, South Africa or New Zealand.
They complained because they are now used to scoring 300 runs on docile Indian wickets.

Don't we play Kanga Legaue on under prepared wickets in Mumbai??? Gavaskar should have been reminded of this.

Few balls cocked up because of good pace from Sundeep Tyagi as he was bending his back and hitting the deck which sent shivers down the sri Lankans as they were not used to such hostile bowling from any Indian in the ODI.

It was a shame that the match was called off as Sri Lankans just chickened out!!!

Gavaskar has made an irresponsible comment

Just cause the Lankans were 85/5, Sangakara cried foul to avoid a 4/1 defeat. If India was to bat first, Gavaskar & the Indian TV media would have laughed saying the Indian can't play on pitches with a bit of grass. LANKANS ARE CRY BABIES..........THATS IT.

Don't blame the man who played and understood more cricket than you all....he need not prove that again......for he played when you might not have born as well.......be his stature to comment....irresponsible are we who comment thus.....

Agreed sengupta with regards test cricket...he has no idea about one day cricket and was disobedient to his captains and killed the spirit of one day cricket..That is gavaskar..

He said this before the start of play. So not because of Sri Lanka struggling.

Pitch in Delhi
by Gopalkrishna Vishwanath on Dec 27, 2009 05:47 PM  | Hide replies

When pitches favour batsmen and do not turn and offer no bounce the bowlers are hammered and you get high totals. No one complians.
When it's the other way about, we complain and abandon the match.
Not fair!
Both teams play on the same pitch. So what's the problem?

How can Mr. Gavaskar comment like that. How Harsha BHogle's head would be like Feroz Shah Kotla's Pitch? hehehehe

He would have been reminded of Harsha Bhogle's head I am sure! He read the pitch before the start itself, not after 25 overs were bowled.
