Re: why wasnt the ground tested before for match fitness ?

gavaskar says, "I am not sure about it. Looks like a batting first pitch. Difficult to predict what it will do".
even he cant predict, then who can inspect it beforehand.

well he did predict that it would be a bad wicket to bat on right ? The reason why he or anyone will not go on record before the match is played is to prevent chaos. I think you missed the part where he said the pitch will be tricky to bat on because of patches of grass.

gavaskar will support players and the general view, because if he questions players lack of g-u-ts to play he will lose a lot of friends and contracts.
blaming poor curator is easy job for everyone.
Even in pitch report he said he was not sure about it and said he would prefer to bat first.
which means he was expecting it to be tricky in first 30 minutes and could get dificult towards end of play, it happens in most pitches.

A pitch that is suitable for cricket is a good pitch...u cant have pitches with pot holes..underprepared pitches...pitch with uneven bounces from the very first over...
Re: pitch

One where there is something for everyone - batsmen, pace & spin bowlers. It should be consistent, that is whether bounce is low or grassy wicket, it should not have spots from where the ball can shoot like a bullet with variable bounce.
Re: Re: Re: pitch

but ballas were bouncing here too, just that lankans did not have any balls to continue and shot out india for less .
it takes g-u-ts to rise to the challenge instead of crying about occasional uneven bounce

still waiting on you to display G-U-T-S . Do let me know of the time and location when you would show your G U T S
Players today covered from head to toe with Safety gear afraid to play!! Players in 70s and 80s used to play West Indian bowlers who were quicker than most of the current bowlers on pitches with uneven bounce without even helmets !!
Re: Game should not have been called off
by Sameer on Dec 28, 2009 07:17 AM
sorry pal , the pitches of the 70-80's were never of uneven bounce. They were carefully laid out tracks. They had enough time to prepare the pitches , unlike these days. So please sell stupidity elsewhere

I am completely agree with you, Today there is complete safety guards for Players, so it looks very funny that match has been abondoned due to poor pitch condition, and there no express bowler in either side, if players and officials are so much worried about the Pitch that might ball hit any player than they should not play cricket, even today lot of gully cricket played without any gear, further i will elaborate even umpires can instruct either team to continue with slow bollar

There is some basic standard of play and quality of pitch has to be maintained...is it 2 difficult for u to understand that?

as long as its not dangerous for the batsman and his career..WHY NOT?
Re: Game should not have been called off

There is no safety for the shoulders, neck, face and stomach areas.. Then why dont you play on the indian road like pitches... why do u take trouble of spending crores on pitch preparation, pitch experts????

The only sensible decision to take was to abandon the match. It is not just a question of deciding to play or not to play. The substandard quality of this pitch has brought shame to our country. This is the second time that this is happening. Last time it happened was in Indore. We are the only country where a match had to be abandoned because of a substandard pitch -- a shame on the curator and the committee that controls the affairs of the DDCA.
Most of the Indian pitches have been made flat favoring batsmen and spinners. Lack of bounce is a clear is the mantra for the higher scores that are enigma for any visiting team. The bowlers had a raw deal in this game plan

AGREE with u ...thaz why Indian batsmen have atough time when faced quality bowling in a quality pitch
Re: Re: Poor bowlers
by Varun on Dec 27, 2009 10:45 PM
same problems the other teams have facing quality spin bowling in india. Your comment makes it sound like spin is not quality.
Re: Re: Poor bowlers

Thers is no problem these days for the indian batsman to face fast bowling...we could beat england, australia, newzealand at thier grounds...
Though the kotla pitch was not upto the mark it was constant commenting from our "India commentators" i.e Gavaskar, L. Siva and to top it all Ravi shastri the master of " all ceremonies" about the state of the pitch which led to Kumar Sangakarra on the field. Indian team had played on worst under prepared pitches in New Zealand where we fought closely contested one day matches. It would have been a keen contest to see the bowlers dominate the batsmen and test their true batsmen skills. The batsman should not have worried about the injuries as all the latest protection gears are now available. Both India and Srilanka would have not complained about this pitch if they were playing in Australia, South Africa or New Zealand. They complained because they are now used to scoring 300 runs on docile Indian wickets.
Don't we play Kanga Legaue on under prepared wickets in Mumbai??? Gavaskar should have been reminded of this.
Few balls cocked up because of good pace from Sundeep Tyagi as he was bending his back and hitting the deck which sent shivers down the sri Lankans as they were not used to such hostile bowling from any Indian in the ODI.
It was a shame that the match was called off as Sri Lankans just chickened out!!!
