I don't think So.
They were not good players of spin.
Only one or two players used to play spin better.
In 1948,1958,1966,1975 are years in which west indies toured India.
India never had good Fast bowlers late until 1978.
In all the tours the first bowler would have bowled a max of 20 overs in two innings from india side. And a spinner used to bowl min 40 overs in a Innings. There are many occasions a spinner bowled 70-90 overs in a innings.Spinners gets tired and westindies batsman used to take advantage.

In first two tours westindies totally are in upper hand.In 1975 resullt should was 2-1 instead of 1-1 each.

India used to lost, because they don't have good fast bowlers, and they have only 1-2 batsman who can make big scores.

Present Indian Test Team is best team of all Indian Teams.
Present Indian Test Batsman are best Batsmen of all time when compaired to any all time Test Teams.
Present Test Team are one of the good Teams of all Time Test Teams(not best because a bit weak bowelig link)

you are wrong. They would not have. Almost all of them were stroke players. Except for Clive Llyod and to some extent Desmond Haynes and Larry Gomes none of them could play the sheet anchor role in case of a collapse. Whereas in this Indian team , there are 5 top class players who can do that - Gambhir, Dravid, Sachin, Laxman and Dhoni. Among them Gambhir, Laxman , Dhoni and Sachin can also pick up the scoring any time they want. The bowling of the 1980s West Indies team was too monotonous - all fast. Except for Malcolm Marshall none of the other bowlers could swing the ball. This Indian team would have 'got used' to the attack. Remember Perth last year- Brett Lee, Shaun Tait , Mitchel Johnson- all of them fast or faster than than West Indies attack- what happened? - India made a mockery of them. When it came to our bowling- we 'swung' them out. Plus we have a world class spinner which the West Indians didn't. We have a left arm fast bowler, they didn't. Taking all this into consideration, they would have been rolled over , whatever be the conditions.Learn to give credit, where it is due.

Halwa Singh, dont forget that the Indian Team which one the World Cup had a lot more respect for the West INdian team of Llyod, Richards, Haynes, Greenidge, HOlding, Garner, Marshall and party. Even Gavaskar & Viswanath never 'got used' to the West Indies attack. The only player who batted with extreme comfort against that attack was Mohinder Amarnath. So if the World Cup winning Indian team (members of who even to this day speak glowingly of that West Indian team) respect Lloyd's eleven, even after winning the world cup finals against them, why are you dropping halwas all over this board?

If this team is the greatest why do they run out of gas in One Day Intl World cup?! The way you are delivering fresh steaming cricket halwas here, it woudl appear that this team will win ever world tournament.

Just wait till they play quality teams away from home. I am sure you will disappear without a trace when that happens, and assume a new Avataar to entertain us all here with your criceting acumen.

I agree with you Clive Lloyd's team would have beaten the dhoni's team any place, any format. Also I strongly feel that the Clive Lloyd's team of 1980 would have beaten the Australia's team under Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting (from 1999 to 2007) at any place and any format. Surely Clive Lloyd's team would have dominated any team of any era in any place and format. There is no doubt about it.

There is absolutely no way in which the 1980s west indies team would have beaten the Australian team led by Steve Waugh. Remember, this Australian team had a wicketkeeper coming in at no.7 who could bat like Viv Richards- the main batsman of the west indies team !!! Plus the opening combination of Mat Hayden and Langer was superior to that of Desy Haynes and Greenidge. Plus any day, Ponting is more consistent than Clive Llyod or Viv Richards. Then they would have to content with Steve Waugh!!! The bowling attack of the Aussies was more balanced and versatile. The old west indies team didnt have a Shane Warne. This factor alone would have made a major difference between the two teams. 3rd, 4th day tracks, the west indies bowling would have come cropper, whereas Shane warne would run through sides!!!

Halwa Singh, you should quit talking cricket and become a Halwai in the lanes of Delhi!

"The Australian team had a WK coming in at number 7 and who could bat like Viv Richards". That is an EXCELLENT halwa you have dropped right there.

Forget about batting like Viv Richards, just looking at Viv Richards the Aussie WK would drop some fresh steaming Australian halwa on the pitch itself!!!

That is the problem with parents in Delhi and Patna naming their boys Halwa Singh, Gadha Singh, Pappu Singh, Jahppu Singh. These guys end up becoming like their names! I actually have met one Phool Singh (People pronounced it FOOL Singh, even though he himself couldnt understand why people invariably smiled when they got introduced to him. He thought it was him great personality and imagination much like Halwa singh here).

So Halwa Singh, plese open a discount Halwai shop in Delhi, instead of comparing Hayden and Langer to Greenidge and Haynes.

Greenidge and Haynes have finished one day matches without either of them getting out. Gavaskar to this day considers the Greenidge and Haynes jodi the best he has seen. But then what is one Gavaskar when Halwa Singh is delivering halwas.

Indian teams batting looks good, sounds better. But if you include the circumstances of Clive Loyd's era things would sound too different. There were no helmets, neither any limitation on bouncers..A ball of 90 miles /hr to be faced without helmet and other gears apart from unending stream of deadly bouncers whizzing past your temples, the runs on board would look too different. To think about scoring runs apart from saving life makes the same thing look too ominous especially if those bouncers used to come from Holding,Roberts,Garner and Marshall.Forget Swing..It was not required. Sehwags,Sachins,Dravids would have been extremely hard pressed for surviving. Please don't co,pare these modern day greats with Gavaskar,Richards, Chappel etc..

Always remember that every country produces wickets to favor their strengths. We have always been successful at home and we have to wish the Indian team which has beaten a Lankan team which boasts of good players of spin and good spinners. India deserves No.1 by beating SL (twice innings defeated) and that too in conditions favorable to both teams.

Why are you comparing the past with present?
1980 was past
2009 is present where Indian team gained No 1 spot in test cricket

Dhoni and Bhajji scheme kept Sreesanth away from bowling!
by exoticbronze on Dec 06, 2009 12:55 PM

Congratulations Dhoni! Your kitchen cabinet politics with Harbhajan worked so well! Both of you conspired to deprive Sreesanth of bowling opportunities. So at first you began by introducing spinners, and then when Sreesanth got an opportunity and took a wicket and bowled very tight maidens, you quietly replaced him with Zaheer, even though Sreesanth was bowling a tighter spell! Both of you guys - Harbhajan and Dhoni - were worried about Sreesanth repeating his success from the last test. So Bhajji and you came up with the good idea of keeping Sreesanth on the outfield while Zaheer kept on bowling.

Dont worry Dhoni, you and bhajji can conspire all you want. You attitude will only propel Sree to perform even better. Your and Bhajji's (Hayden may have had his reasons to call Harbhajan a 'weed' after all - he really needs being weeded out) games will not be able to keep deserving players out of the team for long.
