The champion batsmen is actually regreting the fact that smaler editions of the game are keeping the cricket lovers away from the thrill and enjoyment of longer version where many interesting aspects of the playing sides are tested. However the feeling that cricket popular in asian countries particularly India just because people are idle and do not have time is not at all correct. It is not that people in other countries are very busy and also it is not true that people who love cricket have nothing to do

What does any sport have to do with the country being third world or not. How come countries such as Netherland,Canada ,UAE are catching up with the game ? Guess liking a particualr sport or not is a personal issue and cant be based upon the economic status of any country. By that standards short time sports such as Kabaddi / Kho kho/Langadi should be very popular in developed countries. It is not that these games are not good, infact they are exciting and require multiple skills , but it is because these sports are not marketed properly. One of the reason why cricket is so popular in Indai is because it is marketed well

I live in the netherlands pal, and no one knows anything about cricket here. no one watches it, no one cares for it. the same for canada as well. The Dutch people try and play a veriety of sports for recreation - the 12 people in the dutch national team might be the total number of people in this country who even know what cricket is.

you may be absolutely correct about only the 12 knowing cricket in NL. Point , is earlier even 12 people may not be knowing about this game and only 3rd world countries being interested in cricket. Though I do recollect that in 70s too test team would play a friendlt match or two in NL.

I understand cricket is not new in NL at all Several Dutch cricketers have also played at first-class level elsewhere, the most successful of these probably being Roland Lefebvre who played for Somerset and Glamorgan in English county cricket as well as for Canterbury in New Zealand. The Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate and Worcestershire batsman Alexei Kervezee are the only current members of the Dutch team to be playing county cricket.

Who says cricket is dying? We are the nation of Idle people who are ready to sit 5 days 10 days for anything. Let it be political rally, a funral, fire in the street, a street fight people gather and watch it. So the cricket also falls in the same category. You can make millions in cricket even if you are illitrate ... you be a scientist engineer or Acadmission you can't make money in 10 births what a cricketer makes in one season. All beacause we have no work just go mad for cricket or films. A nation of Nikammas Idle and free people. Time has no value. Cricket will not Die, Thanks to the Idlers

Wow! You should write a full dictionary man. You have invented words and styles of sentence construction in your post. Btw, you also seem to be a borderline case on illiteracy, where English language is concerned?

If EPL did not kill Football, then why do you think that, IPL will kill cricket. In fact now even women are watching IPL cricket (instead of saas bahu soap).

I dont think so. the rest of your points are valid., But not IPL. Honestly, i think if anything would save cricket from dying, its the IPL.
I have a few south african friends who didn't know anything about cricket and didn't care as well. However, this time, they ARE watching the IPL and they find it pretty interesting as well.
IPL has only brought in more viewers in the form of women, casual fans and foreign viewers. thats why there's money in IPL. Why would anyone think its bad for cricket? How much longer do you think you can shove down the 5 day boring matches down people's throat?
Cricket may be a dying sport. But what can Indians do?Indians are a passive lot.Hence they like cricket.Indians don't know to play any other game properly.Hence Indians are stuck with playing cricket only.
Indians control the game due to the viewership and all the bureaucrats running the game, including some revered greats are promoting the format only because of the huge amt of money involved. This is the beginning of the end I feel for this beautiful game .I for one was a avid follower and have stayed up watchin likes of Steve Waugh battling against the likes like Ambrose,Walsh and Co or Gavasker single handedly playing on the monstrous track against the Pakistanis in 86-87. This format of cricket will never see talent and infact kill whatever talent is around. We may never see the guys of the class of Dravid or even someone following in the mould of a Gavaskar as they will have no hope to make it to theteam which comprises mostly pinch hitters.
