When any of the senior is not not sure of his form, choose a cover and put him in playing 11. Its sensible to pick another spinner to cover up Kumble/ Harbajan. If Kumble continues with his SriLanka form, and we play with only two spinners, we will struggle even on rough pitches. You need a support staff here. Same way pick up one very good young batsman ( Badrinth or Kaif) who can cover you senior three batsman in the team. Sachin, Dravid, Laxman are not at their best at present. We lost Srilanka series as these batsman were far below their usual potential. The best thing is to rest one of them.
Badrinath and Munaf will be choosed based on the Pitch Conditions. Suresh Raina and Virat Kholi should be groomed with the seniors(Dravid & Sachin) to replace later. Rohit may Fill laxman spot after 3 or 4 years.
Sehwag should be the Vice captain to replace Kumble later. He is at least consistent in the Test and most importantly the only Indian made 2 triple centuries and his last 12 Hundreds are 150 . So he should be rewarded for the lone test win srilanka.

I think Ganguly deserves one more chance.. so Badrinath gets a bench.. he needs some more time in the dressing room

It may happen. But he should be groomed along with like of Suresh raina, Virat Kholi and Rohit to replace Fab 4. Not later than sooner.
Dravid apart from his cricketing abilities is probably one among the best writers as could be seen by his article in India today of this week. They have correctly put it that he is probably the best all round personality India has produced in recent years
To play defensive on a placid wkt and to make sure the top and middle play well India can start the first test with Kaif.
Once they see there is no need of kaif with the top order,seniors and dhoni playing to make 300 then we can go with Munaf or on perfect turner with Ojha.
The worst test team will be selected under Srikanth. The worst performers will be selected as follows...
