Cont2.....
by Arup Chakraborty on Sep 26, 2008 07:31 PM  | Hide replies

Mater of fact everyone is forgoting that Dhoni is playing with a team where players are not enough experienced. Whenever the critics write off him he bounce back with a bang and shows his guts.
India has atleast gets a captain like him who can take responsibility one shoulder.

He knows how to stay cool and cum in difficult situations.
He has every gradient to be great player.

I don't agree with Your first and last statement. No single player in this world plays for spectators (fans),he plays for country's pride and personal benefit. Secondly Dhoni doesnot have all the in(gradient) to become a great player, his unorthodox batting will not allow him to be rated amongs the best players.

Boss, viv richards used to play right across the line and hit deliveries pitched on his middle stump to the on side boundary. He also wd deposit the balls pitched way outside the off stump to the leg side for boundaries. He was unorthodox..but a hell of a player and a genius. So ur comment that unrothodox batting wd not allow dhoni to be rated a grt player is incorrect. Dhoni may or may not be grt, only time will tell, but greatness cannot be judged by how orthodox a player is. It is only in india we are obsessed with technique. Sehwag for example may have all the technical faults in the world, but he has scored two triple hundreds and big hundreds against all top teams in their own back yard, so is grt despite being unrothodox.

Boss first of all please understand the difference between orthodox cricket and innovating a shot. Agreed that viv use to hit a ball way outside off stump to midwicket and that too out of the boundary, but that doesnot mean he was unorthodox!!! his straight drives and sqyaure cuts are as famous as his innovative shots.
Talking about shewag, he jsu lacks footwork and but his batting is 100% orthodox, look at his shots, all the time he hits the ball, his bat is straight and not across and that the reason he managed to score 200/300 runs!!!

After Sachin Dhoni is the greatest indian cricketer. He has excellent cricket sense and can play according to the situation. He never plays for his own record. Always play for the country. When matter most Dhoni always come for rescuse.

What a joke. It seems to me that Sourav, Rahul, Sehwag or Laxman has not won matches for India. Especially the first 3 has won plenty in both forms of the game. Sourav has won the maximum matches after sachin in 1 day and Rahul has won more matches than Sachin in Test Cricket if you see the statistics carefully. Sehwag too has won a lot of matches for the team in both form. Can you tell me how many test matches and one days matches dhoni has won for India. His record in test cricket is poor to say the least. He has to go a long way to be counted among the legends

Laxman has 4 tons in India's wins since 2000 end....2 v Aus, 1 v Pak (decisive final ODI) and 1 v Zim (in Aus). In fact, he had made 5 100's during 2003-04 season (4 in wins and the only one lost was in D/L method, where Aus scraped through one ball to spare because of one Lee six) Yet he was never considered in ODIs regularly. Reason given was poor fielding whereas even our former captain (greatest as Test captain) has always been a poor fielder. But Laxman is a good slip fielder at least during the initial overs he would be handy.

Laxman four tons in ODI contributed to win.
2 Australia 1 Pakistan 1 Zimbabwe.
Regret same. I always rate him much above Ganguly. Regret this error.

For your kind information Sourav contributed in 5 to 6 wins with his conribution with bat (scoring 50 plus) and ball if you remember correctly against Pak, South Africa, England. Not always you need century to win matches. He played crucial innings against these teams in the last 2 yrs and won us the matches.

Dear Arnab,

Can u tell me how many century Sourav has against Australia, South Africa and England in one day and test. Can u tell me last 3 series how many runs Dravid, Scahin and Laxman scores.
U forgot the fact the Dhoni is allrounder and these so called greate all only specilised in one field. An allrounder has more pressure than others. Moreover he is also captaining the side.
Lastly he shows his true character by wining series in T20 world cup, One day series in Australia and Sri Lanka. Can how many of ur greats has done that?

Had Ganguly been in the Team, Rest of India woul dhave set Put up 500 as target with a good 100 from Saurav at a brisk pace (not like Dravid) and by his gentle inswingers he would have taken 2-3 wkts in the 2nd innings already..
What say?

High hopes .. but atleast Ganguly is capable of such feats.. unlike the lacklustre bunch that's playing as Rest of India.. not one person other than Dhoni who is a crowd puller - not even Sehwag who keeps failing..
