u r right. boycott seems to have forgotten that the same senior or fab 4 batted superbly and won it for India in Australia series early this year.

england has been consitently losing out against India. Boycott seems to have forgotten that when it comes to ODI's Sachin is King. He aggregated highest last season. Missed out on almost about 7 to 8 centuries by getting out in 90s.

What is Geoff Boycott trying to prove??
by Bhasmasur on Oct 04, 2008 01:48 PM  | Hide replies

I don't understand Geoff Boycott at all......are Messers Flintoff and Vaughan in the England team for charity??

I guess cricket became a professional game in the 90s and to that extent, relics of a bygone era like Boycott missed out on the booty that came with cricket becoming a
professional sport....endorsement deals and modelling is part and parcel of a professional sport...be it Adidas or Reebok or Nike or a sports drink......the fact that it swells the kitty of cricketers is something that gives them a nice nest egg for the future....what is wrong in that??

As noted cricket historian and keen student of the game, Boria Mazumdar notes, the only metric on which selection should be based is "P.E.R.F.O.R.M.A.N.C.E."....and barring the Lanka series, which was a collective disaster, the performance of the seniors has always been quite impressive!!

So, what is the grouse then?? Or is it a tirade coming from a cranky 68 year old who is nervous about how India may thrash England in the upcoming series?? LOL!!

Well said boycott

What he meant is exactly true, if ganguly wants team india to win, he would have himself retired. Just see his fielding, running between the wickets, its just so pathetic, even a avid follower of sourav would have compromised that he has passed his prime. We need a team which can beat australia and win the series for us, its natural that when you grow old, you tend to lose certain things which is not good for the team. We love saurav, but we love more 'team india', we want our India to be no.1. Dont have favourtism, or any sort of bias. Even region wise selection is at fault. If you have 11 best players from a particular place, you select them. Team interest should be first. Atleast one young player should have been in the middle order. India can still beat aussies, we pray for that. Gangully was a bad choice, played safe by the new selection committee.

Yes, I support that, but I meant, you cannot phase out all the seniors together. So, everyone knows who is going to be the first, its ganguly. I think dravid must retire after england series and sachin after pakistan series (if he is not upto the mark).

I disagree with jealous boycott's remark about the aged Fabulous Five but this rubber will be in favour of India with scoreline 3-1, that because of these experienced Fabulous Five seniors.

I personally feel that sachin will score heavily in region of 550-600 runs with 3 centuries doubled by 50-55 wickets between kumble & Bhajji.India will make one sided affair with Australian whitewash of 4-0.We have not much think about jealous persons like Boykott.

Why is Mr. Boycott contradicting himself now?
by J Jena on Oct 04, 2008 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

The same boycott used to sing song on Prince of Kolkata earlier. Till that time no body was aware that Kolkata was a Kingdom and Saurav is heir aparent prince.
People like Boycot, Tony Greig who once were Indian baiters, once they become commentators, started praising everything about Indian team and its cricketer. They glorified Indian losses even by citing selfish Innings played by our stars as very brave & Unparalleled in History. Its people of Boycot cult created the fab 4 in media.
They have their selfish interst to do so, as they knew Indians are very emotional about cricket and their stars, irrespective of result. They were pure businessmen, as India is a booming market for cricket, whereas its an history in their homeland.
Now since Boycot does not have any comentary assignment, he is airing his view differently.

Mr Boycott is saying this ?
He was out of English team at age of 34 in 1974
And were recalled at age of 37 against Australia in 1977 and played till 1982 till your age 42.
He fooled Dalmiya regime and Indian Public in general by calling a ordinary player and Prince of Kolkata for his endorsements
